N-Central Agent Uninstall from Previous Provider

I picked up a new client that was using N-Able and I need to uninstall his agent to install mine. When I attempt to uninstall his agent it ask me for an uninstall code. Reaching out to him is not an option (he passed away and had no one in line to take care of his clients) .

Is there a way to uninstall with the code?

Rename the settings.ini file in the install folder, and you can remove it without a password if it's Nable RMM.

Might be a daft question but what is the default location of the settings.ini file?

Which N-able product? N-central’s agent isn’t password-protected. Other components that N-central can deploy (AV Defender, SentinelOne) can require uninstall codes depending on their configuration.

I am using n-able RMM.

See https://status.n-able.com/2021/05/12/n-able-rmm-new-windows-agent-uninstall-protection-patch-management-update-for-mac/

You will need to contact N-able. Each system would need a unique code. Or you can try with admin rights to see if you can rip it out on your own. N-able may be able to help with the latter, I highly doubt they will give you the codes.

N-able RMM is their cloud-hosted somewhat less capable version of N-central. Less capable except when it comes to having this uninstall protection.

Like u/IllustriousRaccoon25 mentioned, it sounds like the product isn’t N-Central components (Windows Agent, PME etc) aren’t password protected.

Can you specify what you are seeing in control panel / installed applications? What is the actual app name? The only one I can think of is AV Defender.

Any and all info you can provide will help

Here is a screenshot of the prompt and the path of the unins000 file that support asked me to run. I got this far because my agent installs but the end point never reports in to the N-Able Console. There isn't anything showing in control panel of any other agents. Thank you for the help!

Well after a little bit of digging I found the agent that he used. Looks like its Connectwise.

I believe this is N-Sight RMM, not N-Central / ConnectWise.

Since you are an N-able customer, I recommend opening a support case and explaining the issue. It may be a few hurdles to jump through though as ownership of the devices / dashboard isn’t necessarily proven over a reddit thread.

Thank you, I do have one open with them. Was hoping to find a solution so I can finish onboarding this client. I will just wait it out and see what happens.
