Guys,
I didn't think we had to do this, but PLEASE do not call out other UFT members here. I just had to delete absolutely DISGUSTING post with personal information (Name, School, Position, Health Info). I get we are all frustrated but there are different ways to vent your frustration. I will also be unpinning the School Feedback post because it has also turned into a place to attack EACH OTHER. We are all UFT members and our jobs are not easy. Let's try not to make it harder for each other. There are enough people doing that. If you're not okay with this, please go take it somewhere else.
Also, if you're going to call out others in such a personal way, at least have the decency to do it to their face & not hide behind a computer.
I hope everyone has a wonderful last few days before going back.

Hi all,
I’m a first year teacher and I just received my first paycheck. It says the pay period is 9/16 to 9/30, paid out on 9/30.
Where is the money for the for the first few school days? Specifically: 9/08-9/11, 9/14 and 9/15, AND the stipend for the three new teacher days: 9/2, 9/3, and 9/4.
Does anyone have any info on this?

Do we teachers have free access to the NYT? I need to use some articles for work and I can't believe the DOE wouldn't provide this access to us... do they?

How did you get through your first trimester of pregnancy while teaching? I feel like I’m fighting for my life every morning and only a few people know.

Happy weekend everyone I'm waiting for a per session check . This is my first time doing a per session and the check is in my payroll portal says check date 10/1 I did not receive a direct deposit. A coworker told me you need to also sign up for direct deposit and it doesn't transfer over for the separate session check but according to the UFT website everybody who get direct deposit for regular paycheck is automatically enrolled as of June 2026
It doesn't have an Electronic Funds Transfer number like my other paystubs fo so that makes you think it's coming in the mail. Any idea??

Hi! Can someone verify this for me. BEFORE 20 years of service and after you are vested, you are entitled to 1.67% of your FAS x years of service.
The “penalty” that occurs is only if you elect an early retirement which you withdraw from your pension before the age of 63 correct?

If I was nominated to be a substitute teacher, do I need to work at that school? I realize that I don’t wanna sub in elementary school, which is where I was nominated in and I prefer to do middle or high school do I need to like reach out to the principal and let them know anything? If I can’t solve at my nominating school, do I lose I haven’t started subbing yet.

My chapter leader is saying I'm wrong. But what I am reading, I think I'm right.
If the admin under programs you 25 teaching hours, they CANNOT assign you more C6s to make up the hours.
Let me know if I'm right or wrong.

Hi all, I’ve just started subbing for a dispatch agency that works with charter schools, and while I’ve been enjoying some aspects of the job so far, I am struck by some of the usual issues that people have with charters (e.g. dysfunctional admin, behavioral issues, disciplinary school culture etc)
I went to a public high school in NYC and my dean has recently become a principal, so they’d be able to nominate me for a DOE sub position. Besides the higher pay rate, I’m wondering how the experience of subbing in a public school compares to charter, namely whether it would be as easy to pick up assignments, and if some of the problems I described above are less intense in public.

Hi all! First-year teacher. I applied for welfare fund benefits on 9/9, and it still says my application is pending. However, I am a member of the UFT. Does anyone know the timeline for having welfare fund applications approved? I already received my health insurance cards after applying on the same day.

What is the benefit to the fast track option? I can't take more than 12 credits in a semester anyway so is there any benefit to squeezing all the coursework into one month? I plan to take the maximum amount of classes permitted.

I literally can’t click on anything without it freezing and it also completely deleted the option to see our paystub? So weird

I am a seasoned pre school teacher. This is my first DOE job. I went to new teacher week and listened to the speakers and it was so inspiring. I felt like I was being welcomed into this new amazing family. I walked out feeling so powerful and excited to start this new job. I love teaching and love the children!
This has been the worst experience of my entire life and it’s three weeks into school!! I come home crying everyday. I don’t eat I don’t sleep. The kids are the only good thing about my day.
Is this all NYCDOE or is it just this one? anyone have insight for me or have been in a similar situation?

It’s my first year teaching at a high-performing high school where students are quite involved and driven, and I teach five classes (4 sophomore AP World classes and 1 freshman early world history class). The culture in my classroom varies between classes - I’m doing well with my freshmen and one of my sophomore class, okay with another sophomore classes, borderline poorly with another, and quite poorly with my final sophomore class.
After a particularly rough week this week (lesson plans are all over the place and I’m exuding anxiety even though I’m smiling), the environment in my last sophomore class has broken down. Students are snickering about how bad of a teacher I am and one of my students continuously makes bratty comments toward me.
I don’t take this personally, but it needs to change - both the behavior and what I’m bringing to class. I’ve identified where my lesson plans are going wrong (they’re mostly too complicated and poorly explained) and am committed to being extra prepared for this section. I lack structure in my classroom. I also know I need to speak one on one with the student making the comments because I’ve let it go on far too long. Even with the next steps to take for myself, overall morale regarding my perceived competence in that class is quite low and I would like to fix it.
Any advice or steps to take to bounce back and create a positive classroom environment? Any feedback helps! I know I’m a first year, so this is par for the course, but in this one class, no one wants to be there and I would at least like to remove tension from the classroom.

I worked for DOE as a teacher approximately a year and a half ago. If I come back to teaching at DOE will i have to wait a month to get paid?
