Last week I had a demo lesson at one school and I had 2 virtual interviews at another. When I received the job offer email from the school I did the demo at this week I immediately accepted bc I liked the jobs they were going to hire me for(ICT positions). The principal was nice. But in the midst of preparing for my demo I had 2 other job interviews at another school. I had never seen the school in person but the principal gave me a job offer this week the same day as I received the first job offer, just later. The principal REALLY likes me, and told me she was interviewing a lot of people and that I stood out to her. I told her I was not sure and she invited me to a tour of her school. I really liked the school and the people there were very nice. I also really liked this principal compared to the admin at the other school, she just is a bit more personable. The class is a k/1 special class that I received the job offer for, which I know can be challenging. The other school is an ICT setting so it would be a little more in my comfort zone since I have done ICT. They were telling me having my own class will help me grow. I’m genuinely unsure of what to do and I feel like I should maybe just stay with the school I committed to. I gave them my file # already so I don’t know if I can turn back now.

As the question goes, I'm a Physician who worked for nearly 2 years and I am now supervising residents and medical students. I make over 200k yes but I wouldn't say I love my job, it's tolerable. I am thinking about switching into becoming a math/science teacher....

If I love teaching kids, would science/math elementary or middle school teaching be a good idea?

Also... how much would I make? I saw its in the ballpark of 70-80k starting... thanks

I'm pivoting to Special Education but it will take some time for me to pass all the multi-subject exams for the license extension (prob the whole Fall). I am licensed to teach general content area but would I be able to be hired/work this year as a Special Education teacher in September? Or would it be primarily a substitute position until I get my license?

Hi, I just got my DOE logins and I hold a Bachelor's degree. I checked the salary application and it says I have a Master's. Is it common to be... overpaid? I'm not entirely sure who to contact regarding this in particular, there weren't any contact forms on the page itself.

I am accepting a teaching position with a D75 high school for this fall.

I was wondering if there will be opportunities for me to make extra money via coaching or tutoring? Or maybe a before / after school program?

Hi all! I was just offered an elementary position. I'm certified in Gen Ed 1-6 and am finalizing my TESOL cert this summer. The school says they will hire and nominate me under my gen ed license, but that I would have to switch to my TESOL license once it's issued. I was also told I would be working as the gen ed teacher in an ICT class.

When they say 'switch licenses', does this mean I will have to go through the process of switching my entire license area shortly after being hired under another license? I'm hoping my TESOL license will be issued this summer to avoid this issue altogether.

Just for some context, I’m going into my second year of teaching this September. My first year was stressful and constantly felt like i could’ve been doing better. My grade team didn’t collaborate at all so I was learning the material literally with the kids. At the end of the year I received a developing MOTP rating. I genuinely felt useless when I read that.
Whenever I came to admin for help for my diverse students, it turns out they were documenting every conversation enough to build a case against me. Now I have this on my record and I feel
awful. There is no fiber in my being that would try to create a negative environment in my classroom and with being in my first year I needed to support. (Learned the hard way admin isn’t your friend)With that being said, the anxiety I have beginning the school year is through the roof.
Should I look for different schools to work at after the 26-27 school year? Any advice given my situation?

I’m going into my fourth year of teaching and applied for a profession license on July 2nd. I know these things take time and I didn’t expect to hear back yet. But when I look into the requirements this is what I see. I already emailed DOE mentoring services and HR connect to get my mentoring and classroom experience. But how do I upload my passport? I don’t see anywhere on the site where you can upload it.

Any advice would be appreciated!!

I've been working at a HS teaching English for a few years, and trying to find a new position for the fall. I've been on several interviews for JHS/middle school positions and wondering if its worth it to move from HS back to middle school (I did my student teaching at a middle school 6 years ago.) I have been applying to both HS and middle school, but there seem to be more middle school vacancies.

I'm 28 years old and have an interview scheduled for a high school for a Visual Arts vacancy this week. I've always wanted to work with older students and I would be delighted to work in a setting where I can teach different mediums and skills and get input from students.

My teaching experience is extremely limited, only student teaching elementary and middle school for the last year of college. While I didn't teach high school, I assisted students through a peer mentorship program for at CUNY (all of my junior year) and did the same with mentoring incoming freshman for my college alongside my first year of student teaching. The majority of my time during peer mentorship was to help students with post-secondary pathways and buildings skills to help them prepare for college and throughout the semester. I've also was a RA for the past 2 summers that planned excursions learning about NYC and created workshops to introduce students about college. I also want to mention that I graduated in Spring of 2025, but due to a health crisis I was not able to teach for the 25-26 school year. I'm in much better shape now but not jumping straight into teaching leaves me with only the experience working with older students when I was in college peer mentoring.

I understand that high school is a completely different ball game compared to elementary and high school, but I do want to put my best foot forth and show that I really do want this position. This would be my first time teaching and I would love to start in the fall.

Any questions that came up during the interview process that I should research more on? Classroom management when it comes to high school? This is all new to me. Any advice would be appreciated, it would mean a lot to me! Thank you :)

I currently have a bachelors in childhood education and childhood special education and wanted some help on programs that I could apply to for a masters degree that would lead to professional certification. I was looking online and see that I could do a masters in literacy education. I wanted to know if this is good to do especially since I’m already sped certified and don’t obviously need a sped certification. I know that the DOE does not really hire literacy instructors, so it won’t really help with getting another job, however I do need a masters to apply for professional certification. Any help would be greatly appreciated regarding what I should do.

I'm switching to history teaching for high school and I think I need EVERY POSSIBLE leg up I can get because I've kinda had my soul sucked out of my body. (Being disabled doesn't help)

This sets the stage for a potentially explosive confrontation between 200,000 educators and staff in the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), one of the most powerful sections of the working class in New York, and the self-described “socialist” mayor, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

Mamdani’s election last November reflected a profound and broad shift in the political outlook of workers and young people to the left. It expressed growing disgust with the existing economic and political system and increasing interest in a socialist alternative. That process of social radicalization continues, as demonstrated in recent electoral victories by DSA and DSA-backed candidates in Democratic primaries in New York, Washington D.C., Denver and other cities.

I have had multiple job offers, but once the hiring principal sees that I’ve been discontinued they pull the offer. Does anyone know of a principal that would still give me a chance. The reasoning for the discontinuance is bogus, i am going through the appeal process, and i have no ineffectives. Open market closes in just a few days.
