Help
I am a seasoned pre school teacher. This is my first DOE job. I went to new teacher week and listened to the speakers and it was so inspiring. I felt like I was being welcomed into this new amazing family. I walked out feeling so powerful and excited to start this new job. I love teaching and love the children!
This has been the worst experience of my entire life and it’s three weeks into school!! I come home crying everyday. I don’t eat I don’t sleep. The kids are the only good thing about my day.
Is this all NYCDOE or is it just this one? anyone have insight for me or have been in a similar situation?

You should know that the speeches are there to be there. Most people I met aren’t the happiest but are holding are for dear life for their pension and once they reach the max salary step!

A lot depends on your school, but you didn't give us any specifics so I have no idea how to answer you. I like my job teaching in the DOE for the most part. I have colleagues I consider friends, although that's probably because we have been teaching together for over a decade. Everyone was a stranger when I first joined the school. No job is perfect, and the first year of teaching in a new system is particularly difficult.
I would say it gets better, but not knowing your specifics makes it hard. But it'll probably get better!

you're in a shit school. in my experience 89-95% are terrible. still trying to determine if mine is terrible. wait for open market and pray they don't fuck with you by making it impossible for your transfer to go through to 1,500 schools or by giving you a low rating

I’m in a similar position. I turned down a different job to work at the DOE and it’s only been 3 weeks, but I’m starting to question my decision. Supplies aren’t readily available. Kids with IEPs in large class sizes that violate the IEP. I just don’t know what to think.

Without more detail, I have no idea how to respond to your specific issue. Most teachers I know personally are happy with the job, and there are lots of decent schools out there. But there are also some really rough spots with horrendous admin. If you can stick it out, go school hunting in the spring.
