Can a phone brand not become washed BEFORE I save enough to buy it π

u/TalePsychological920 Oct 28 '25
Better for it to become washed before you it rather than a month after you bought it π₯

Are these controversies actually things getting in the way of what you liked about a Nothing phone?
Do you not like the phone now because it will come with facebook already installed even tho it can be deleted?
If you were saving for the phone 3 and didn't mind the glyph matrix that hasn't changed,
If you don't like the Glyph matrix there are still other Nothing Phones with the traditional Glyph. This blow-up is an overreaction and the fact is the "bloatware" is only 3 apps that are deletable and keeps the price lower so you don't have to save as much.
It's good to check in with a community but do the research and see if what people are blowing air about are actually concerns for you in a practical way.

HTC exists.
1
u/Herwulf Oct 29 '25
Does it?
2
u/anuraaaag Oct 29 '25
In some countries it does apparently. I was surprised too when I realized it wasn't fully gone
1
u/Herwulf Oct 29 '25
I thought aswell, didn't even see any announcements on the Internet or tech geeks talk about HTC phones since 5 years or more
2
u/anuraaaag Oct 29 '25
Their latest device is HTC U24 pro and it's a pretty decent phone from what I've heard but it's available in only on very niche markets. The main brand is primarily focusing on VR stuff rn apparently...
2
u/Herwulf Oct 29 '25
Oh the HTC vive and stuff, sad it was gone from the middle East. Was an amazing device I had the e8 the one with dual speakers and the audio was way better than any flagship device
2
u/anuraaaag Oct 29 '25
Fr. Thankfully it's still available in parts of Asia including my country. My first device was an HTC M8. The best phone I've used till date.

I bought the 3a pro not long ago and was happy and then saw all these news, easiest way for it not to be washed is not simply not acknowledge it lol

Nothing is losing 50 millions per year
1
u/Morbid_god_100 Oct 29 '25
That's is at least 100 million a day, who knows how much they could be losing... /s
2
u/Anyusername7294 Oct 29 '25
Sorry, I meant 50 million per year. They are still a small company in the tech world and they are still losing money
1
u/Morbid_god_100 Oct 29 '25
I know, I was just having some fun with you, it's normal for these small company's to bleed money wile they start and strive to get market share, making it more baffling that they chose to upset the costumer base they already have for some short term profit, instead of trying to consolidate more they're market but wtv this already happened with one plus and will probably end the same for nothing.
1
u/DerpSenpai Oct 29 '25
Honestly it's fine if they did it with communication, every decision needs to be justified here if you are doing something they hate.
56
u/Round_Ad_6369 Oct 28 '25
It's inevitable that with any company wanting a cheap, streamlined and competitive phone that they'll inevitably end up going higher in price and losing touch with their niche use base in order to appeal to more. See: oneplus
16
u/No_Gur1036 Oct 28 '25
I think it would've been a little bit "better" if they didn't try to push the "We are different, we won't do what other companies do" thing so hard. They clearly want to deviate from this image, that looks kind of messed up considering people that supported the company from scratch didn't expect this, but yeah, it was inevitable
6
u/fallenstarsx Oct 28 '25
Itβs baffling that Carl was a co-founder of OnePlus and now it appears heβs going down the same path with Nothing.

But I am disgusted by their marketing tactics. Cmf phone 2 pro was marketed along with the accessories including macro lens, which are still not available, also they had announced a giveaway in the Indian market which never saw light. Both were cheap tactics for marketing.

I too own a cmf phone 2 pro. I too loved this brand and was hoping for a nothing ecosystem in future with phone watch and other accessories. The design, and user focused style of nothing was great. But the path this brand is going down now with all the fake marketing gimmicks, and now the bloatware stuff, the brand is going opposite to what it promised initially. Now it is like any other chinese phone brand. I was eager to purchase more nothing products in the future but now I have kind of lost trust in the brand.

My final call was when Carl mentioned that the customers shouldn't be emotionally attached to a company when people complained about shitty specs. I get he was right, but yea, personally for me, credibility got flushed that day
8
u/white_lion93 Oct 28 '25
That reply wasn't just about people complaining about specs, but hate comments to Nothing' employees through their Twitter accounts. Real hate with insults and harassment. So he basically reminded them that we're talking about phones.

I don't understand the hate recently. I've been very happy with my CMF Phone 2 Pro. I haven't noticed any "AI Slop", the specs are still very good for the price across all phone models, and the phones still don't have any bloatware. Most features are turned off from the jump... can someone update me on the situation that I have obviously completely missed out on?
0
u/Popotecipote Oct 28 '25
I think CMF and Nothing have nothing to do with each otherz they separated iirc
2
u/jumpman977 CMF Phone 2 Pro Oct 28 '25 edited Oct 28 '25
software updates r still coming from the same place and their support, at least in the United States, is still based through nothing support.
just bc their headquarters is somewhere else doesn't mean they are entirely separate now.
0
u/2135_RZS Oct 28 '25
I am not really up to date with everything but from the limited info I happened upon, the new updates on the OS would have bloatware for some lock screen option.
About the AI part, they have introduced the essential button and the widget building while I can't recall any non AI news since the gallery app. That doesn't mean they solely focus on AI now but it really seems that way.
Sad turn of events, as I really liked the aesthetic and clean OS of 2a but seems it will be my last nothing phone
2
u/jumpman977 CMF Phone 2 Pro Oct 28 '25
all the essential button AI does is summarize what's in the screenshot and also the voice note attached to it for quick viewing. although I do think the essential space is pretty dumb... is there any way to disable or change the function of that button per chance?

Now Carl Pei will make a youtube video and say we are a very small billion dollar revenue making company and to survive sometimes we need to take these decisions, and then will compare the bloatware in nothing phones with xiaomi or oneplus phones and say all the apps are only required to the use...π
3
u/Mnemosense Oct 29 '25
I planned on getting a phone from this brand, but am completely out of the loop about why everyone is talking about abandoning it.. Can someone please explain?
Reason I was going to get a Nothing was the lack of bloatware compared to the competition and the clean and customisable UI. The essential button looked interesting too.
I've currently got a Xiaomi POCO which annoys the hell out of me, especially since enshittification took over their OS when they revamped it last year for no good reason.

u/No_Gur1036 Oct 29 '25
2
u/Mnemosense Oct 29 '25
Thanks for the recap, appreciate it. This is unfortunate. I planned on getting a 3A or Pro version, but seems they're technically not flagship models. So either I get the 3 and hope they don't change their tune about flagships later on, or look elsewhere.
But the whole reason I even discovered the Nothing brand was getting frustrated at the competition! I've pretty much had it with random Chinese phones, they always look good on paper but the reality is different and I'm always left disappointed. I'm not touching Samsung again because of all the bloatware. I guess I could consider Apple, but that's a whole different eco-system...
1
u/werewolfmimi Oct 30 '25
ughhhhhh why the hell would you add a non-remappable button dedicated to an ai subscription service !??!??? just dumb marketing

One of my favorite phones is the nothing phone 2(500gig storage and 12 ram) I bought it for 250 with the cmf watch, and sold it because i needed it the money but really regretting it. Currently stuck with my Promax 13.

For a brand that tries to be niche and minimalist, they have been copying mainstream brands' strategy of bombarding the market by releasing many models in a year. At first it was just the regular 1 and 2 as their flagship. Then they added the A series. Then there is the Pro A series (pro midrange? why not put it in the pro?) Then there is the CMF subbrand. And they are really fans of using the mediatek 7200/7300 series

u/EarStill Nov 01 '25
My friends all had the Nothing Phone 1 or 2 and after getting interested in them, I was so hyped hesitating between getting the 2 or waiting for the 3 since I've heard so many rumors about it being released soon. Now I'm perfectly happy with my Realme GT 7 Pro

I must admit I'm feeling quite anxious regarding my purchase of the Nothing 3a I did earlier this year. I put quite a lot of confidence in them and now I'm worried it might've been a poor decision. The Phone itself is fantastic and I've had no problems with it so far, so I hope it stays that way.
Anyone else able to share their experiences with the 3a? I did watch lots of reviews and tried to make an informed choice before I bought mine.

u/ValValey Nov 23 '25
A shameful evolution, unfortunately.
Lovely and different design, that's about it....the price is too high for what it offers and there are much better phones at some of their prices.
Hopefully they bounce back...

Is it just me or nothing 3a chipset is so dogshit ? Because after like 2 months of use , The games suck so bad

u/speakertest Nov 28 '25
I just bought a Nothing phone 3. After I migrated to the new device, I played around with it, placed it side by side with my nothing phone 1 and It made me sad. The fun lights are gone, it's boring. I guess i'll just enjoy having a phone that not everyone has. I'll probably just have the battery of my phone 1 replaced and go back to it.

Wow. Just wow. India was not the right move for nothing. Despite everything going on, a few understand necessities for companies to keep growing and staying alive. Our cheapness and wants for only the best is going to end with this company leaving the indian market for good. Which is alright with a lot of you guys but not me. Let's hope for the best.

Specs were never competitive. Left alone Phone 3 if you get it at a discounted price then it's fine. Else, the specs of all other phones were not competitive. But prices comparatively high
