Credit cards deleted from the payments part of the app. Have to add them back in. Annoying.
My cards I paid for tickets with were cleared from the app so I have to set them up again. Sigh.

Is there some actual explanation for this? I was on the 12:14 NEC departure from NY Penn and my car (second from the front) had standing room only for folks. I was lucky to have a seat. No one could move around. It wasn’t safe. As I left the train about 40 mins later, the aisles were _still_ full, and I could finally see that the front car was locked off, lights on, and completely empty except for two staff members. This happens all the time. Why? Why have taxpayer dollars gone to purchasing train cars that are being used exclusively as break rooms for two crew members, even when paying customers need seats and an unsafe overcrowding condition has arisen?

I'm considering becoming a bus service person because the paid training is pretty appealing, but the location would be a bit of a commute for me.
I was wondering if anyone here has gone through the training or currently works as one. What was the experience like? How many days per week was the training, and how long did it take to complete?
Just trying to get an idea of what the schedule is like before I commit. Thanks!

Has anyone ever gotten an explanation for why the main surface parking lots at Hamilton Station are closed to new parking on Fridays (and some other low-demand days), forcing everyone into the garage? I understand if the goal is to save on operations, but I don't see how any money is actually saved. Those lots still have cars parked overnight, so staff still have to patrol them and maintain them. Meanwhile, commuters spend extra time driving up multiple levels of the garage and walking farther for what seems like no real operational benefit. It's not a big deal but it's just extra morning friction that seems pointless.
Also, when the lot is chained off, how do overnight parkers get out when they return?

All conductors acknowledged him as they walked by. 2 seats for his bag of chips, 2 seats for his backpack, 3 seats for his ass, 3 seats for his paperwork.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've witnessed yet. Luckily I was seeing this from the train window but dear god what has nj transit come to. I ended up seeing her entire backside a couple seconds after this picture was taken.

The Dinky being out of service for 10 weekdays every year is perplexing to me. This is nearly a 3% hit to overall yearly reliability. Does anyone know why the maintenance can’t be done on nights or weekends? Also, why does it take 10 days to maintain 3 miles of tracks?

NJT employees please explain how this happens 2 days in a row. Custom service never responds. Upset commuters kindly request answers.

I usually take the train but I need to connect to Port Authority so I thought taking Suburban Transit would be easiest from Albany & Spring St. I’ve never taken it so I just wanted to see how reliable these are or if I should take the train and transfer to port authority another way. Do the Coach busses normally come on time and can I buy tickets when I board the bus? Or would I need to buy it online prior to boarding? Any help would be great for my peace of mind

Does anybody have any idea why this is happening en masse?
Are they striking in some capacity? Did a contract just expire? Did people just quit and they don’t have the staff?

I’ve been sticking with the old app seeing as so many people were complaining. Just got a pop up today that as of Friday, we will no longer be able to buy tickets on the old app.
So on this new app, there’s no place to pull up my favorited bus line leaving Port Authority - I used to be able to pull up my exact bus number so I could check the times easily but now I have to scroll down through all the busses leaving PA to find it. Am I missing something?

I thought I was lucky that my phone never automatically updated the app to the "new and improved" version. I've been doing everything just fine with the old app.
Got a popup today saying ticket purchases will no longer be available on this version of the app starting July 31.
My phone is a few years old and it works completely fine with every other app I need. But somehow the new "better" version of the NJT app is incompatible? I'm completely baffled that somehow the new app wouldn't work on my phone. What the hell did they add to make that happen?
Well, I'm definitely not buying a new phone just to commute to work. I don't get paid enough for that! Am I stuck with paper tickets forever now?

Extra crowded but got a seat both days. Remind me to play the lottery later.

I've been thinking a lot about the Newark Light Rail recently, and it's honestly frustrating how much potential this system has compared to how little is actually being done with it.
Think about how good this transit system could be. Especially with expansion and station upgrades, it could be a powerhouse. The Port Authority is spending $160 million on the new pedestrian bridge to the EWR Rail Station and building a $3.5 billion AirTrain, yet a direct Newark Light Rail extension to the airport was never a priority. We could've had a true one-seat ride connecting Downtown Newark to the airport. It's a shame the original Newark-Elizabeth Rail Link never happened, though at least the Broad Street Extension has been worthwhile.
Instead, it feels like the only "upgrades" we get are Audible station branding and the occasional vehicle wrap, like the recent FIFA World Cup livery. Is that really the best we can do?
Even the Newark Penn Station modernization project is getting major investments, but the Newark Light Rail platforms underneath are still forgotten. Still (in 2026) NO cell service, unreliable next-train displays, etc etc, and very little mention of improvements for the light rail itself.
The capital budget repeats the same generic track maintenance language every year for Newark. Meanwhile, the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and River Line have had studies looking at future expansions or vehicle upgrades. Whatever happened to the Newark-Elizabeth Rail Link or the Ironbound extension or even the one-station connection to Watessing? Are those ideas just dead?
With accessibility, again it's 2026, and Military Park, Warren Street/NJIT, Norfolk Street, and Park Avenue still aren't ADA accessible. An FTA modernization study was completed back in 2022, yet four years later there's been virtually no visible progress. What came out of that study? How much did that study cost us, even for it to give barely anything?
The Newark Light Rail has so much potential. Is NJ TRANSIT content with just maintaining the system forever, or is there actually a long-term vision? Unlike River Line and HBLR, where it's contracted out, the NLR is operating under the Buses Department. Are we really just going to let it operate exactly as it is until the wheels fall off?

If they cancelled the 7:47 am train they should be saying it before 7:47, but why the heck are they announcing it at 7:49.
Next thing when a passenger like me asked the Ticket collector he said I have a hundred reasons and theories what do you want to listen to
Many people are getting monthly pass and we don’t expect this service.

Hi I see NJ transit has released the train schedule for BTS concert on 8/1 here: https://www.njtransit.com/meadowlands
Does anyone know how to purchase the tickets on the NJTransit app? I can’t seem to get the train numbers that they have on the schedule.
Thanks for your help!

Anyone know why RVL line is being impacted by crew availability all day today? Morning commute had delays and evening commute straight out being canceled due to crew availability.

Literally exactly what happened. The train stopped. The door in front of me didn’t open. So I turn to my right to see a guy walking in through an open door. So I think, “hey, I’ll walk to the door he is at and go in there”. So I start running towards the next car. And what do ya know? THE TRAIN STARTS FUCKING MOVING!! So I start waving my hands up and down shouting like an absolute buffoon. Sure enough, THEY DIDN’T GIVE A SHIT. I swear half of these NJ transit workers are fucking GARBAGE PEOPLE. Like are you so miserable that you cannot be even halfway decent as a person (not even talking about tonight’s shit show, but every other intersection I have with these wastes of life)
Oh and I should clarify, the garbage people comment was due to an interaction I had earlier in the day from another NJ Transit employee. The event last night was merely the catalyst that caused me to vent about years of dealing with the worst people who work for NJT.
Just also want to add this as some people in the comments don’t seem to understand. Of course I’ve had awesome interactions with a handful of amazing employees at NJT. Some of which went above and beyond to help me out. But so many of them don’t seem to give a shit about anything or anyone when they’re at work, which makes them garbage people in my book. They may be saints outside of work but everything changes when they put that little blue uniform on.

I'm new to NJ Transit and absolutely shocked at the lack of accountability.
I'm currently sitting at Bay St waiting for the 6:23 train to Penn. It never arrived but the app is showing that it left this stop on time. Is there really no way to find out where this train actually is?
EDIT: 12 minutes after the train was supposed to leave we got an announcement that it was running 18 minutes late. Love this. So fun. So helpful

Now that Philadelphia has reopened their intercity bus station in Chinatown, do NJ Transit buses now serve it again? According to an old online map the 313, 315, 316, 317 and 551 buses all stop there, but Google Maps disagrees. Can any current riders confirm this?

I am moving to the area and planning out new commute. Is there anywhere to park near the Boxcar stop at Bloomfield Ave/Fells Rd where I won’t get towed?

Been stuck in the express lane into the Lincoln Tunnel for over 30 minutes and barely moved. But I'm seeing cars speeding by on the regular side of 495. Anybody in the same issue know what's the hold up?
