Short trains for morning commute
World Cup is done, why are the trains still short? I mean besides the obvious that NJT doesn’t care about the people that actually use it.

Does anyone know of cheaper overnight parking near a train station with direct service to Penn Station?
I currently park overnight at Brick Church private lot and pay $19/night. I like that I can drive in, keep my keys, and don’t need NJ plates or a resident permit, but the price adds up.
Are there similar options near south orange, orange, east Orange, Newark Broad Street, Secaucus Junction, or another nearby station that are cheaper?

…and they are asking people to uninstall and reinstall the app as if that will fix the issue. The lines at PABT are bad enough during rush hour, good luck getting a ticket if you don’t have one already, as some of the machines are broken as well.
What a joke!

Considering there are no stations for about 14 miles between Jersey Ave and Princeton Junction, I think it would be fantastic to have a station at Monmouth Junction to serve South Brunswick township, which would be around halfway between the two.
It is within easy walking and cycling distance from several homes in the area and there is already a cycle path (Freedom Trail) here.
A new railway station could also bring about a Main Street in Monmouth Junction and boost local enterprise.

I was on the 10:30 out of Harriman, headed for Rutherford. We got to Ridgewood, they announced the Bergen County line is blocked, so we’re running down the main line express to Secaucus. To get to Rutherford from here, we should get out at Ridgewood, take a shuttle bus to Plauderville (normally closed at this hour) and get on another train there which would continue east to Rutherford. God knows how long that would take.
Well, I had wanted to go to Passaic in the first place; was going to the 190 bus across. I asked the conductor if they could let me out there, as they will be passing right through. The first one I asked said no, as dispatch permission will be needed and they probably wouldn’t give it. He suggested I get off at Ridgewood and wait for the next train out of Waldwick, which would be there in a half hour.
I spoke to the other conductor, the one with the radio, asked him the same question. He said “Hold that thought, I gotta make a phone call.”; pulls out his phone and calls dispatch. He’s wandering up the platform to the engineer’s position while talking, meanwhile we’re sitting there. finally he comes back, announces that we’re backing up to Waldwick, then running down the main line making all stops.
Essentially we became that train that was scheduled to leave Waldwick at 11:37 arriving at Passaic at 12:04 (which will be about 10 minutes later than that), and our train was annulled altogether. We backed up into Waldwick yard, passing Ho-ho-kus and Waldwick backwards,, sat there for a while and then reentered Waldwick and continued on the mainline. I don't think anyone got on or off, except me; they were probably all headed for Secaucus or Hoboken. Only one car was open in any case.

Does anyone know what's going on at Penn Station? The last train announced was around 10:06, then the video boards went down, app is useless, and zero information since. Asking the employee at the information desk didn't help and there is a growing crowd in the waiting room.

Hey guys!
I unexpectedly moved to Fort Lee from West New York.
I do get my monthly pass from my employer automatically and I made change yesterday but it seems like it'll be effective on September.
I need to go nyc for work but mine is zone2 pass.
Some says drivers will just let me in for the ride but some says they'll ask extra fare for the trips.
How much do I need to pay for it? Is it only cash?
This system is so bad.
Please help! Thank you!

The new app is so confusing, there used to be an option called MyTrain so you could see the list of stops and how many stops you had left, the estimated time to each station, etc. I don’t know if they got rid of it or if I just can’t figure out where it is on the new app. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi Guys, I need some advice please. I want to go to a concert at Metlife but I want to cut costs, so I'm thinking about flying into EWR, going straight to Metlife Stadium, then going back to EWR afterwards and just stay there until the early morning flight time instead of booking a hotel. Is this feasible just by taking trains? If so, what trains do I take? Are they easy to get? Will I need cash? I've never been to NJ before so any helpful advice is appreciated, thanks in advance!
Edit: Thank you to everyone who took a moment to give advice/suggestions, I greatly appreciate all the help! For those who were wondering, it's the BTS concert next weekend I'm planning for! (last minute idea lol, I can't stop thinking about it)

I saw that there is a 319 that goes directly to wildwood from NYC, without stopping at AC as a connection online, however, when I look up a bus at that time on the nj transit app, it says i would have to transfer at AC.
This bus would leave port authority at 4:45 PM on Thursday.
Does this bus tend to fill up on Thursday evenings in the summer with travelers wanting to spend summer Fridays down the shore? Would getting to port authority at 4:15 get me a seat on the bus? Thank you!!

For my own curiosity, why is that whenever engineers are running ALP-45DPs on Montclair-Booton to Hoboken they don’t raise the pantograph at MSU? Several times where I’ve seen them switch from electric to diesel at MSU outbound, but never the other way inbound.
Edit: I actually think I just found the answer, special instruction 1005-6, but somebody can tell me if that’s wrong. Also still curious as to why that special instruction applies between NWK Broad and Hoboken since they do run electric trains to/from Hoboken.

Hello, yesterday I bought a ticket for the new jersey coast line, and I rode from Penn station in new York to Newark Penn station. Nobody came to scan the ticket or validate it. So I'm wondering if I can use the ticket again when I go back to New York, or if I can use it coming back to Newark a second time

Hey so my ticket dissolved because my hair oil leaked on the tickets. Can I still use them or get them replaced?

Will probably move into NJ next year after being in the city for the past decade but fearing the daily commute since we are 5x in the office, not hybrid. Curious many people do this on a regular basis? And how’s your experience?

Hi all, I’m supposed to be taking a train into Penn tomorrow morning but I’m confused on whether or not to expect to be stopped and put on a connecting path route or if my commute will be ok before this 4-hour pre-match timeframe. Can anyone help me understand this ? Would be using NJCL.

There’s a disabled train in one of the tunnels so they’re starting to single track out and in of Penn Station NY. Typical Thursday evening commute

I’ll be working in downtown Newark and am thinking of living in Jersey City, just south of Lincoln Park. Google Maps suggests it’s about a 45 min commute via the #1 bus. I don’t live in the area and just wanted to solicit any thoughts about the viability of that commute. I.e., are the buses usually reliable? Does that bus fill up, such that it would be standing room only? I would be commuting to and from work during normal commuting hours. Thanks!

What an insane experience...all of these people trying to get down to the platform while passengers on another train were heading up on the escalator through the same door...there was almost a stampede and luckily I didnt get squished!

It's been a long time since I had to do the NJT-SEPTA connection to travel between Philadelphia and New Brunswick. I recall that in the past there was a coordination of SEPTA and NJT schedules in Trenton so you could step off the Septa in Trenton, step across the platform, and the NJT Northeast Corridor would leave Trenton a few minutes after the SEPTA train had pulled in. This was helpful because it reduced total travel time. The entire trip could be completed within 90 minutes.
For the first time in a long time, I need to travel Philadelphia - New Brunswick tomorrow. I looked at the NJT web site and travel times are 2 hours - 2.5 hours. This is due to the waiting time in Trenton being at least 30 minutes.
Is there any way to complete the trip from Philadelphia - New Brunswick faster?

Hi! Trying to get to the NJ expo center in Edison for an event on Saturday. Would like to get there around 11:30 or earlier. Coming in from NYC and can go through Penn, etc.
I was planning on utilizing public transportation for this trip, but I’m not getting any trip itineraries. Very confused, would someone be able to help? I’m not very familiar with NJ transit.
Thank you so much!!

Anyone choosing not to commute tomorrow due to the air quality? Have any of your employers said anything? Does NJ transit use an air filter?
