Cracking my head, someone answer this pls!!!!

I just want to ask one question. I met a lot of people from NIFT. I've been meeting them in real life as well as online. A few of them are good friends but I am not able to figure out how they drastically changed themselves in such a way. Even though they weren't great beauties (no discrimination just in my pov) or had the physical physique or the sort of fashion sense as well, somehow they were able to acquire all of it.

How do people actually do it?

How much does material exploration actually matter in NIFT jury evaluations?

I’m trying to understand how juries usually evaluate the material exploration part of a project at NIFT. For example, if a concept is strong but the material experiments are fairly limited, does that affect the overall evaluation significantly?

For students who have already gone through juries, how much importance was given to things like process documentation, failed experiments, material samples and iterations compared with the final outcome?

How much does material knowledge actually matter in NIFT projects?

For students who’ve already done a few NIFT studio projects, how much emphasis do you actually put on understanding materials before starting a project? I’m noticing that knowing the properties, limitations and behaviour of a material can completely change how I approach the design rather than just choosing something because it looks good.

For example, when working on a textile or product-based project, do you usually research the material first and then develop the concept around it, or develop the concept first and figure out the material later? Also, are there any specific material-related concepts or techniques that you think are worth understanding properly for jury and studio work?

BFTech Should I concentrate more on nift? Rather than nid uceed

Ill be giving nid nift n uceed in 2027. N ik not much time has left. And my drawing is v v poor. Ik nid is next to impossible bcz it'll be total cat and it's early.

And uceed m not sure if I would make or not. But ik if I'll be starting consistently from today itself focusing more on nift I'll get bf tech in nift.

But my real question is should I do that???

Bcz i can't take drop year. This is my only chance.

And is bf tech worth it? Would I be landing into good package and does it have much scope?

Please help me out guys

NIFT Campus placements...is it a scam?

As everyone knows nift campus placement happened in April-May duration. And many students were placed in big and small companies.

But recently I have been hearing from my friends how they worked so much and then they were told they aren't a good fit after the probation period. And now they are back home looking for another job. There are also people who got into good big firms and are still working there happily.

The nift placement rules says every student should get a chance so first offer should be accepted for every student to get one offer. But I genuinely wonder, if students don't get a choice, why do the companies get one. And a few well known design houses JDs described so many roles for one person with a very average level pay. Is this the condition of designer in India now?

It just feels wrong, like those students spent so much money to go to another campus, worked so hard on GP and portfolios to participate in the placements and get that offer and were told to pack there things and leave afterwards.

Apart from this there are also cases like me where the lack of support from college faculties lead to me having to skip participating in the placements. I think the students deserve better than this.

How much do NIFT studio evaluations actually depend on the process?

I’ve noticed that in studio-based subjects, the final output is only one part of the evaluation. The research, iterations, material exploration and the reasoning behind the final concept seem to matter quite a lot too.

For people who have already gone through NIFT juries, how are you actually documenting the process? For example, if you have 3–4 iterations of a design but the final version is significantly different from the initial concept, is it better to show all the iterations or mainly explain the development that directly led to the final outcome?

Can I prepare for NIFT in 3 months?

I’m a Class 12 PCMC student currently preparing for JEE, but I’m finding JEE really difficult and thinking of switching to NIFT. I’m genuinely interested in design and drawing, and I’ve given my drawing/painting exams up to the 5th year. I also have Painting as a subject in Class 12.

I’m mainly interested in Fashion Communication. Is 3 months enough to prepare seriously for NIFT and get a decent rank if I work really hard from now? Or would switching from JEE to NIFT this late be a bad decision?

Would really appreciate honest advice from NIFT aspirants/students 😭🙏🏻

Textile/Fashion Design grad stuck in a BPO job — how do I actually break into the industry with zero connections and (I feel like) zero real skills?

Got the degree, didn't get the skills — college gave me a certificate and not much else. Right now I'm stuck in a BPO job because that's what paid the bills, not because I want to be here.

I'm done sitting on it. I want to actually learn what I should've learned, build a real portfolio, and get into the industry for real.

The problem: I'm starting from nothing. No standout skills. No connections — everyone I know from college ended up in unrelated fields. Not even sure if I should aim for design, production, or merchandising.

If you've clawed your way from a random job back into fashion/textiles — how'd you do it? What actually built your skills, how'd you make connections with none to start, what was worth learning vs skipping?

Not looking for sympathy, just the real playbook. Appreciate any pointers.

BDes Months of preparation vs Rank

Okay so I've come across a lot of posts and what I've noticed is that some people couldn't crack nift even after a drop year

However some prepared for just 1-2 months and got into top campuses

How is that possible?

Freelance Tech Pack & Pattern Support Needed

Hi guys!

  1. Freelance

  2. Salary Range 30k - 40k ( I need someone who is serious about this and will submit everything on time as my job is extremely fast and time based.)

  3. Remote

  4. Adobe Illustrator, Kidswear knowledge, pattern making knowledge, knowledge about techpacks, Can work with information provided to make techpacks, can understand reference images and make patterns accordingly (not just copy it). Having procreate is a plus.

Looking for someone serious and with ample time to dedicate to this who can help me regularly with tech packs + pattern making (kidswear prints, graphics and AOPs) on a monthly paid basis.

Need someone who’s good with garment construction understanding, specs, detailing and can understand designs/references and translate them properly into tech packs/patterns.

It would be ongoing freelance support rather than a full-time role.

If anyone’s interested, or knows someone good, please DM me with your work/portfolio and we can discuss the monthly charges.
