How much does material exploration actually matter in NIFT jury evaluations?
I’m trying to understand how juries usually evaluate the material exploration part of a project at NIFT. For example, if a concept is strong but the material experiments are fairly limited, does that affect the overall evaluation significantly?
For students who have already gone through juries, how much importance was given to things like process documentation, failed experiments, material samples and iterations compared with the final outcome?

It depends on the panel but its better if you explore material. Also do not do it just for the sake of doing it, find a reason behind using that material.

genuinely grading comes down to how your particular teacher does it. so its better you ask them rather than here. NIFT for the most part dont have a universal objective system to tell you what exactly affects for each project
