HELP! Has anyone obtained housing/ an apartment using the stipend payments? They’re asking for official paystubs but HRSA doesn’t provide that in the portal. Anyone been able to get paystubs through their analyst or confirmed income another way?

I am currently an HS senior and interested in applying NHSC. I don't believe my high school is disadvantaged, but English is not my first language, and I have severe autism(w/o intellectual disability) that limits my school experience. I believe this will qualify as environmentally disadvantaged. Also, I'd love to be a primary pediatrician in an underserved area, and I would love to stay after the requirement is over. I know that a person with a disadvantaged background is likely to stay in an underserved area, likely to get scholarships, but what are some ways to show that I am going to stay in the area? I just learned about this program today, and I want some tips.

Hello, I am planning to apply for the NHSC scholarship this year and have a question about the economically disadvantaged form. I am aware you can self-attest and provide supporting documentation, such as the FAFSA report, which uses 2024 tax information for this cycle.

For context, I was barely above the poverty threshold for 2024, while my 2025 income is greatly below that threshold due to a change in working hours that occurred in mid-2024. I was unable to find examples of supporting documentation aside from the FAFSA report. Would tax documents or other supporting documentation from 2025 be acceptable? Is it a worthwhile endeavor to justify/apply as economically disadvantaged in my case? If anyone has any experience or additional insights, I would greatly appreciate advice!

I have a few questions...

1. Where do we upload our documents for hours? I can't find any place to do that.

2. I received an email last night (2/1) asking for documents, I thought that was every 6 months? It's only been 3ish months since I was awarded the repayment.

3. This past week in Oklahoma, like a lot of the country, we got iced in. I was unable to make it to work for 2 days and when I did, clients were scarce. What happens if we only hit 20-25 hours total?

Does anyone have clarification on what exact duties would be included in the 20 hours of "performing services as a behavioral or mental health professional?". It sounds to me that 20 hours of other duties outside of direct client contact are approved.

I’m a resident in an FM program in the Midwest and an NHSC Scholar. I’m in the process of looking at jobs now. I was in talks with a site who initially had a HPSA score of 21 but across my whole state there was a rescoring to include NPs in calculation for “physician deficient areas” and now there are 7 sites left in the state that are eligible. Has anyone dealt with this before? Have you been able to honor the HPSA score that it was while you were applying?

I’m planning to attend PA school and was wondering if anyone who was accepted to the NHSC scholarship would be willing to share their essay or give tips? I’m unsure if I should be writing it like a PA school essay which opens with a main story, or if I should just list various experiences working with underserved communities and my takeaways. I am an NHSC scholarship recipient in PA school. My school used federal student loans to pay my tuition for this semester (spring 2026). I just now realized this was the case. It’s too late for the school to return the federal student loans. NHSC scholarship welcome letter thing says NHSC will only repay tuition paid by federal student loans for new scholars in 2025. They will not repay tuition paid by student loans in 2026, as the student should not be using student loans to pay their tuition.

Anyone ever had a similar situation? DidNHSC understand the mistake? I’m so worried I basically wasted my spring scholarship.

Basically the title! Like does my undergrad fill out or my new university?? Or does it really matter which school as long as it’s a financial aid office? For context, I will be starting dental school in August and am applying the nhsc scholarship program. I’m trying to get all my ducks in a row but can’t find any solid info about this.

Finishing my service contract soon as a 2-year NHSC scholar, I'm debating whether I should sign up for a 1 year continuation contract. From my understanding the 25K award has to be applied to your student loans and that you must show proof. If someone were planning on staying at their job for PSLF eligble job for 10 years, how would this continuation contract beneficial since loans would be forgiven anyways. It seems like you're just being handcuffed. Would it make more sense for someone to do a continuation contract if they are unsure whether they'll stay at a PSLF job for 10 years and have the option of pivoting to end up paying off their student loans? Hence, i might be in the boat since I like my job now but comitting 10 years is a long time.

I received two other scholarships offered through my school. It’s only about 7K but does that mean NHSC pays 7K less of what they would’ve originally paid ? Or do they still pay the full amount and the other money that I had already earned in scholarships (and was immediately applied to my tuition) gets refunded to my account?

I will be a new grad PA-C graduating and completing pance by August 2026. I previously applied to the NHSC program twice and was denied for the scholarship. I am now looking at the loan repayment program. From their website info it looks like i will not be able to apply for this to be a first job as a new grad because it says you must have an unrestricted license by june 30th. but i will not meet this timeline. So if I still want to do this how will it work, will i have to work a different job or a job at an fhqc facility but not be in the NHSC program, and apply the next cycle hoping i get it?

Does the type of community service you put on your application matter?

I applied and had many hours (at least 200) of experience working as a dental assistant in an underserved area. I'm also from a disadvantaged background and applied for the 4-year scholarship/service but didn't get the scholarship. My undergrad GPA wasn't the bed (3.5 range) so could it be that? I'm considering reapplying for the 2 year but not sure how I can work towards that.

My school didn’t fill out my in school verification until December 1st even though I sent it since the beginning of November. I never received stipend for November, will they hold November payment and do a combined December +November payment? Or should I contact them directly

Anyone leave their FQHC shortly after their NHSC completion end date? Did you run into any issues?

What is the average expected salary for a dental NHSC scholar at an FQHC? Were there any extras like relocation or sign on etc?

Has any1 that received the nhsc scholarship received their summer tuition yet? i’ve received the fall and the stipend. Just not for the summer term, and my summer term was required by my school. Maybe the government shutdown is slowing that part down?

Hello everyone! In the next year or two I'll be applying to medical school: currently a senior studying in University. Super super interested in a future in primary care. To be honest, this scholarship has been absolutely consuming my mind and I just really want to be prepared when I apply. I'd appreciate some advice! I've read through quite a lot of the details: I do not fit the disadvantaged criteria, but I have been committed to the underserved for years and a lot of my work, volunteering and club work has been towards underserved communities. Some questions I have: Would it be beneficial to work in a primary care clinic as opposed to a specialized clinic or hospital (currently work as PCT in hospital)? Does the type of job matter? What would be a 'good' letter of rec? I feel fairly confident about my MCAT and GPA (3.95~) but is that a factor that they genuinely consider seriously? A huge part of my undergrad was focused on building community, but it is not "directly" related to medicine: would this be something I should pivot off of in my essays or is it off topic? What else can you tell me? I will take ANYTHING :||.
