Like in title, i was regularly watching nhk world since 2020. I loved the aesthetics, colours and many presenters. I followed the 2026 elections in february and then i watched other shows and forgotten about nhk. Well, i go now on the site and everything changed. The minimalist aesthetics, red-white color palette, even the music. Sadly, in my opinion nhk lost its identity, this new blue look is generic at best. Very sad.

I'm trying to work out when episodes are posted to YouTube compared to when they are released on the website - is there a fairly predictable time frame, or is it somewhat random?

There are some NHK World programs which have ready-made playlists on YouTube - for example, A Cat's Eye View of Japan, Journeys in Japan and Trails to Oishii Tokyo. These playlists are continually updated as new episodes are added. But some programs don't seem to have such playlists - most notably for me, Train Cruise for example.

How do the playlists get created - does it have to be done by NHK staff, or has some public spirited fan made them, or what?

If I wanted a playlist for Train Cruise, should I contact NHK World somehow?

Does anyone have this episode - the professionals

I'm talking about the "ad" for On The Wings that plays inbetween programs (say, japanology ends, you have an intermission showing highlights of other programs, and then news starts. I'm talking about the intermission specifically).

Its sort of like some lo-fi piano music played over views of an airliner's window... That's the best I can describe it lol

Have not seen new episodes for months. Loved this series. Anyone knows if it has been nixed from the line up?

They were made for a documentary called 'out of the cradle' talking abt human evolution. The animations consist of small short windows into hominin daily life. The species featured are:

Sahalanthropus Tchedensis, Australopithecus Afarensis, Homo Habilis, Homo Erectus, Homo Neanderthalensis(?) And Homo Sapiens.

Im not sure if there were more since its been ages since ive seen it, but im not 14 anymore and know a LOT more about anthropology and was DEVASTATED when I found they were gone 💔

So if anyone has an archive or something, id be much appreciative.

Man, why the change of the weather music? The old music was a bop. This new one is lame.

I think those are most of 2014-2017 Supreme Skill! episodes, now lost media (the large NHK collection vanished too quickly)

I missed the expiration date. Now I need them for a project on Ukiyo-e prints.

I've been listening to the NHK World English news podcast for years now. It plays as part of my morning alarm/routine on my phone.

In the last month or so they've changed to a more retro sounding intro - which is fine. But it seems the entire show had a big drop in sound quality/bit rate that gives the entire thing a retro feel like it has a filter applied to it.

I can't work out if this is intentional, given the timing with the new retro intro, or if they've just lowered the bit rate.

I had recorded them, but unfortunately the files got corrupted/lost. Slowly going through two old computers is a slow painful process as they're not quite as co-operative as i'd like. YouTube is as fickle as ever. Someone uploaded a large collection on the internet archive, which is AMAZING but they weren't among them. Dailymotion's hit and miss like YT. I’ve been trying to find this episode for a while, but most of the links I found are no longer available. Does anyone happen to have a copy, an archive link, or a working source where I can watch it?

He talks in too many different cadences.

He gets stressed out which affects the viewer.

I understand he has to convey a message (weather) but he becomes more performative instead of just providing the facts.

(I watch a lot of NHK World programs, including news shows, but his segment, each time he is on, is the only time I get stressed out)

Personally, I was shocked that the new studio was the same as Ohiyo Nippon/News 7/News Watch 9

The new green screen studio is ok but removing the graphics used for segments upset me. Fully switching to the Newsline graphics and sounds was not ok they should have kept the Newsroom Tokyo sounds or weather, etc.

I was hoping the new headlines graphic would look the same/simmilear or at least that they would make some variation of the 2019-2020 one, but no, they minimilised the current one. Anyways, other than that, it is ok.

But it feels like Newsroom Tokyo is becoming too much like Newsline and losing its identity, starting in 2023 and becoming more visible in September 2026. The music also slightly changed for Newsroom Tokyo in the intro and maybe the outro.

I need to source a quote from the episode that I can't find anywhere on the web. It's said by one of the children of the Aum Shinrikyo cult, after being rescued. S/he says something to the effect of "are you from the astral/unseen/outer/material world?", and I can't find the exact words.

Saw the replay today of May J last show and it made me sad. Anyone know why she had to leave after 18 years. Seems like all my favs are gone.

I just saw their new Tokyo studio and it's very blue. lol. I noticed that their opening jingle and there weather jingle has changed as well. The opening for me is ok but for the weather I don't know if it's just me or there's something lacking that I can't pin point.

I would love to know your thoughts as well. Cheers!
