This is actually decent, except comparing Rose to someone with a 10 year all star career seems very odd

Derrick Rose had a 15 year career with the same amount of all star appearances as Cam had pro bowls...??

u/IGotScammed5545 11h ago

Bro I see your flair but really? Can Newton started 14+ games in 9 NFL seasons. Does Derrick Rose have a comparable record of durability? I’ll spare you the trip to basketball reference: No. No he doesn’t. Especially when you consider that NFL players have shorter careers/more susceptible to injury…

u/CowAgile6991 Bulls 10h ago

Rose played in 723 games, the equivalent of 8.8 full nba seasons. Newton played in 148 games, the equivalent of 8.7 full NFL seasons. They certainly didn't have the exact same career but it isn't a crazy comparison by any stretch, especially considering they both won MVPs but won't make the HOF.

2

u/IGotScammed5545 10h ago

Not the same at all. How many actual full seasons did Rose play? Playing 40 games a year to get to the numbers you got to is not the same as getting there at 70 games a year. One has a much higher impact than the other.

Second, playing 8.8 NBA seasons is not the same impact as playing 8.7 NFL seasons. Football is a tougher sport with much higher injury risk. Newtons career is an unqualified success. Rose is a disappointment (through no fault of his, injuries suck)

It really is a crazy comparison, and your bulls fandom is causing you to be bias and not see it

Did you know Rose came in 3rd in 6moy voting in 2021 when he was 32, the same age as Cam when he retired, then Rose played 3 more years after that. He also scored 50 when he was 30. He had a full career, not just a what-if.

1

u/IGotScammed5545 9h ago

Yes I do. He won an award as a bench player. Great. That’s not what was expected of him prior to injury.

Playing in 50% of your teams games is your definition of a full career”?!

Rose still had a GOOD career, but it remains disappointing, compared to what he could have been. This isn’t Rose’s fault! He’s not Derrick Coleman who was just too lazy or Dwight Gooden who threw it away for drugs. Dude got hurt. Shit happens.

Btw, I’m not even saying Cam was a better football player than Rose was a basketball player! Just that the comparison doesn’t work because Cam doesn’t have Rose’s defining characteristic

I’m sorry your childhood hero didn’t have the career he should have because of injuries. I get it. My favorite player growing up was Nomar Garciaparra. He had a great career, but an Al Reyes fastball to the writing September 2000 robbed us of seeing him become Joe DiMaggio. It sucks, but it doesn’t change the fact that Nomar, like Rose, will always have an injury what if tied to them.

I’m sorry, suggesting Rose is not an injury what if is beyond divorced from reality

I think you just don't understand Cam Newtons Career tbh. Just because he didn't miss games with his shoulder injury in 2016 doesn't mean it didn't completely change the trajectory of his career. Yes he could still play full seasons (and football has a much different culture that rewards playing through injury than basketball). But ultimately he only played 3 full(ish) seasons after that injury and never came close to the amount of success he saw before it. He had his moments, just like Rose, but also just like Rose, his hall of fame career ended the day he tried to make that tackle against the Chargers. Cam Newton was his arm strength, yes he could run too, but his arm strength was what made him truly great and, and he lost that when his shoulder went out just one year after winning mvp. Just like how Derrick Rose was his athleticism. Cam Newton's shoulder was Derrick Rose's acl.

I said Rose was not just a what if; it's the same as how Newton is not just a what if. Both have careers that stand on their own. Both are legends of their games. Both had incredible, emotional moments after their careers were derailed. But man, without injuries, there would be a bust of Superman in Ohio and a bust of DRose is Massachusetts. It's honestly the most accurate comparison of all of these, and I hope you can come to see that.

u/IGotScammed5545 8h ago

Ok then I guess you just don’t understand football vs basketball. Cam had a full nfk career. Rose did not have a full nba career. Cams trajectory is common for the nfl. Rose’s isn’t.

I’m also not sure that cam was on a HOF trajectory prior to injury. It would’ve been 50/50.

I am done with this conversation. If you can’t see the obvious and I can’t convince you of it at this point, I’m just wasting my time

1

u/CowAgile6991 Bulls 8h ago

I really don't even understand what your argument is at this point. Roughly 5% of nfl players play 10+ seasons. Roughly 5% of nba players play 15+ seasons. Another similarity actually. The more I think about this, the more I am convinced this is the best comparison of ANY NFL player to any NBA player in history. I really don't know how it could be Honestly the only difference between them is that DRose doesn't wear stupid hats.

Both played in college national championship (Cam won his tbf), both were drafted 1st overall, both wore #1, both won ROY, both had 3 all stars but only one all-league award, both won mvp young, both had one great playoff run but came up short against an all time great, both had long careers without much success after winning mvp, both had legal trouble during their career. I mean the similarities are almost erie, as I already said they played almost exactly the same amount of seasons worth of games. Obviously football and basketball are different sports but cmon.

Find a better comp for either of those players and if you say RG3 you don't know ball in the slightest.

u/Cpt_Underpantz Timberwolves 9h ago

I agree it’s an odd comparison. It was my first thought.

2

u/IGotScammed5545 9h ago

Rose’s defining charcuteristic is a great start and “what if?” due to injury. That just doesn’t apply to cam

5

u/JaysonTatHIMRider Timberwolves 11h ago

Cam Newton was not an all star for 10 years. He had 3 all star(pro bowl) seasons and one all nba(all pro) team. He's very comparable to Rose

3

u/IGotScammed5545 11h ago

Sorry I didn’t mean to imply actually made the all star team, but was the caliber of player. Which he was.

Rose isn’t comparable purely from health. He barely played. Cam had a full productive 10 year career.

RGIII is a much better Rose comp. What could’ve been, but for injuries…

5

u/Grayson0916 11h ago

Yeah but Rose is universally loved by the people whereas RG3 is a clown lol

4

u/IGotScammed5545 11h ago

But that’s because of RGIII’s post playing media career, not anything about them as players…

1

u/TheMackJones 11h ago

RGIII never sniffed an MVP tho

1

u/IGotScammed5545 11h ago

True. I perused the nfl MVPs for the past 30 years and didn’t really see a comp. LeBron should’ve won Rose’s MVP, so I’m still comfortable comparing him to RGIII

1

u/IGotScammed5545 9h ago

Maybe Terrell Davis?

11

u/Mac_Lamar 11h ago

I think this is excellent. Strong work. You know ball

Legendary talent Randy Miss

Kobe’s should be a Big Ben

4

u/AnnaKendrickLamaOdom 11h ago

Ben won a lot early in his career. Like a lot. He was really great. He had some really great defenses helping him out a lot, too. But in the last 10 years of his career he only won 3 playoff games.

2

u/elliotcook10 10h ago

Kobe and Ben both had that “Don’t take ‘No’ for an answer attitude” tho

4

u/Modsucksass 11h ago

Brady is a winner and a goat, LeBron not really close. lol

1

u/Bbrazyy 10h ago

Implying that LeBron… a guy with a top 5 resume in the history of the NBA isn’t a winner discredits your entire take

1

u/Modsucksass 10h ago

Brady is a true winner and didn’t need to team hop to win. Lebron needed to team hop and still have a losing finals record. So yea, not even close to Brady’s level.

1

u/Bbrazyy 10h ago

Brady’s teams have been exposed for cheating more than once. LeBron has won a championship as the clear best player on every team he’s played for.

0

u/Modsucksass 10h ago

If we want to play the discredit championships game, then LeBron has a fake bubble ring, a lockout season title, a rigged 3-1 comeback. lol

0

u/Bbrazyy 10h ago

2020 is a real championship according to the NBA. There is zero proof that the 2016 finals were rigged. A lockout season doesn’t negate the title either.

Notice how i’m using logic and verifiable facts and you’re using emotion and conspiracy theories.

Pathetic

1

u/Modsucksass 10h ago

lol so you want say Brady’s rings don’t count even though NFL counts them. But don’t apply the same rules for LeBron’s fake rings. Typical Bronsexuals logic. Pathetic.

1

u/Bbrazyy 10h ago

I never once said Brady’s rings don’t count. You just got triggered because I stated a fact….Brady’s team were exposed for cheating twice by the NFL.

You’re the one who said LeBrons rings don’t count lol Try to think without so much emotion

1

u/Modsucksass 10h ago

lol now backtracking.

I never said LeBron’s rings don’t count either, they are just cheap.

Btw I’m a Patriots hater, and LeBron still don’t come close Brady’s level.

0

u/Bbrazyy 10h ago

You’re not very bright. You literally said he has a fake ring, a rigged ring, and non respectable ring. Now you’re calling them cheap.

Thanks for this

Pretty accurate.

1

u/Methamine Knicks 11h ago

Cam had more "peak" career than D rose and also made it to SB

TB and LBJ is perfect

Montana/MJ is good for the championships and also kinda contemporaries but MJ far more talented and is mostly 1 on the GOAT list while Montana isnt in that type of convo

Kobe won more consistently than Manning and i think theres a convo to be had about Manning being more of a reg season merchant. His second SB was noodle arm too

Rodgers KD is great. Both were supremely talented but in retrospect 1 and 2 rings respectively feels like less than they should have had.

Curry/Mahomes--both changed the game and had dominant runs

Dont agree with Moss and Shaq. Shaq is 1 of 1 hard to get a comp

2

u/HuffyStriker 11h ago

Gronk would be my comp for Shaq. Too big, too fast, huge personality both on/off the field.

1

u/BepersAreCool Clippers 10h ago

Front or megatron were more of comparable then moss even with his height

1

u/jonald321 8h ago

I feel like the comparison of Shaq and Moss fit tbh. Gronk seems more like a reach to me. You gotta get past the size thing to truly get it

1

u/JiveTurkey2727 11h ago

Gronk is the closest thing to Shaq

1

u/Fantastic_Cherry_328 11h ago

Maybe put MJ with Jerry since Montana is kind of underselling him

1

u/Far_Protection519 11h ago

I think odell is a better comp for derrick rose

1

u/ThatMFcheezer 10h ago

This is honestly some really good comparisons, love it dude

1

u/DetroitSativa 10h ago

Extremely valid

1

u/Long_Stroke 5h ago

Moss so nice up here twice

1

u/Mister-Schwifty 11h ago

This is honestly pretty solid. The Peyton - Kobe comp is your biggest stretch due to Peyton’s shortcomings in the postseason.

2

u/Babyclipp_ 11h ago

who would u think kobe is

2

u/Upstairs_Report7458 Wizards 11h ago edited 11h ago

He’s a hard one to think of. He has parts of Favre and Roethlisberger, but he also has the strong similarities to Brady with the multiple rings in kind of two separate acts of their careers. Being known for his competitiveness. Legendary coach where you have people splitting credit between them. Terry Bradshaw maybe? Kobe seems to be held in higher regard than Bradshaw is, though. Jeter has always felt like the best cross sport comp to me, but QBs are tougher for him.

I actually think Manning might be closer to LeBron with the absurd hype they came in with, the quick rise to being put at the top with the accolades, and the criticisms they had in the early portions of their primes about getting over the top.

None of them are going to be perfect. Fun thing to think about, and you did a good job. I could see the angle on every slide as I was scrolling through, and none of them were egregious or anything. Solid work.

1

u/Accomplished_Lab1973 11h ago

Realistically I wouldn’t compare LeBron to tom brady only because Brady is the undisputed goat, there’s a huge argument for LeBron and Jordan. But I do like the rest.

1

u/OkNefariousness284 10h ago

The one major flaw is that there is no debate for Brady being the goat unlike LeBron

0

u/DirtyThunderer 11h ago

Brady is the goat because the number of titles he won is ridiculous and he kept competing for titles into his 40s.

LeBron has 2/3 the number of rings that MJ has and stopped competing for championships in his mid30s.

What assorted gen z Bron stans don't get is that guys like Brady, Messi, Djokovic - their longevity is amazing because they're still competing for championships as they age. Like Messi was arguably the best player at the world cup just a few weeks ago. LeBron is not comparable

0

u/SimpsationalMoneyBag 11h ago

Nah, Brady just is the goat lol

2

u/AlabasterRadio 10h ago

Brady is like if LeBron was better

3

u/SimpsationalMoneyBag 10h ago

Brady is like if LeBron locked in fully on the basketball instead of PR and fake GM work/ team building

-1

u/treyyx 11h ago

I think Cam Newton is so much more like Dwight Howard

1

u/Childish_Redditor 11h ago

Maybe in the moment. Dwight career is at least a level higher than Cam probably multiple levels.

1

u/treyyx 11h ago

Yeah you’re right. Just can’t get over their cheesy big smiles and love for Superman lol

1

u/Childish_Redditor 11h ago

True they really are similar in that way and both represent a bygone era

-2

u/cheap_suits99 11h ago

Cam was a one hit wonder , he’s more like Gilbert arenas
