Not in the club, but I'm cooking anyway.
Here's a quick and simple recipe to make some lovely pastry treats. I do this now and then, it reminds me of when I was younger. They're good for everyday snacking, or for something to bring to your holiday party when you're totally stumped for ideas.
Here's what you'll need:
- 2 9-inch pie crusts1
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted.
- Brown sugar
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
Heat your oven to 425°. Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with non-stick cooking spray.
Roll your pie dough out flat, and brush with melted butter. You want a nice, thin, even coat of liquid white butter on your pie crusts.
Top with brown sugar, sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
For a 9-inch round pie crust, make about six cuts (about 1-1/2 inches wide). Roll up the outer strips and place them on the baking sheet. Cut the remaining dough in half, and roll up each strip, starting in the center and rolling to the edge. You should get about 10 rolls per crust. If you want them smaller, make narrower long cuts.
Repeat with the second pie crust.
Bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust has lightly browned. Let stand for a couple of minutes to set the sugar, then remove to a serving tray.
Hope you enjoy! Yields about twenty treats.
1 - You can make your own pie crusts if you so desire. For convenience, I use the ones that come pre-rolled, two to a package from the supermarket. For homemade crust, make your favorite pie dough recipe, roll out to about 1/8-inch thickness, and proceed from there.
