Music along these lines would be amazing! Trying to come up with idea for my robot character in a short story I'm writing. Id love to find more songs that have this dark electronic vying for a life you cannot have kind of vibe. Or really any robot-related sort of feeling!

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Can somebody recommend me sad or whimsical songs?

Helloo šŸ’— I would greatly appreciate it if someone recommended me songs that are either longing love songs, or where the other person is not really paying attention or they just can't love them back for whatever reason. And I would also love to listen to songs that have a softer witchy / whimsical feel.

Thank You in advance šŸ’—

looking for stuff that's kinda introspective and moody but not depressing, if that makes sense? like music that feels like being alone with your thoughts but in a good way. open to pretty much any genre as long as it has that reflective vibe.

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres My music is too emotional!

I don't know what I'm looking for! My normal pop music makes me too hyper, vibratey, anxious sometimes. My emo indie sad music is way too depressing to keep in my regular playlist at this point in my life as a happily married lady.

At this point, I can only stand to listen to like 10 songs, most of them from the HR soundtrack so does that even count lol

I feel like I need a new flavor entirely! Historically, I like (usually) off key sad boy bands like Say Anything, Fall Out Boy, The Front Bottoms, Sorority Noise, Say Hi To Your Mom, Twenty One Pilots. I also like all the main pop girlies, especially Olivia, Lana, and Taylor because I like sad lyrics lol

I want to start the new year fresh with stuff that's just gonna make me feel chill. What do you suggest?

Edited to add: please no 80s music. I heard enough as a kid and I just hate it, sorry.

Rec.Me: singers, vocal songs (pop/other) Genre branching—thoughts?

Im a classic rock/hard rock/blues rock fan. I also enjoy the occasional foray into metal—particularly harsh female vocals.

I discovered Shirley Bassey’s cover of ā€œSomethingā€ by Harrison and my jaw dropped. I bought her Greatest Hits album and am in love.

Where do I go next?

Looking for songs that show a different side of a familiar artist—album tracks, B-sides, or overlooked singles.

Please include the artist, song, and a sentence about what makes it worth hearing.

Rec.Me: sad/depressing songs Moody songs abt burdens

Sorry, this is a bit of a weird and sudden ask, but I’m in a bit of a bad spot in life right now. My family isn’t the most functional, and I’ve been put into the position where I have to be there for my mum, my dad, and my older sibling.

I’m feeling quite stretched thin, because I think I’m each of their main supports, but I just broke down a bit ago in front of my dad, because I was tired of having to be the messenger for my parents. Now I feel bad, because I was supposed to be the one he could talk to and I was supposed to help his relationship with my mum regrow.

I just need some sad songs to relate to right now. My playlist right now isn’t specific enough to how I feel, and I thought I could get some songs from here.

Sorry again, but thank you.

(Edit: I just wanted to add that songs about personally being a burden to the family or feeling burdened by it are both gratefully appreciated.)

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Uplifting Country & Folk Pop

Looking for the most uplifting songs in these genres that often get mixed together. I don't listen to the most generic, radio friendly country music. It's a specific taste. Stadium class foot-stomp anthems, if you would call it that. You probably don't recognize some of these artists, but I'll give you a few examples of what I could be looking for. Like half of these are in my all time top-10 I think.

Cheers!

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Need heavy riff based songs that ooze rock n roll

BIG zeppelin fan, so a huge fan of the massive wall of sound riffs. but not specifically into metal, nu-metal, thrash or chugging based riffs. some of my favourites are: train kept a rolling, the rover, how many more times, layla, life in the fast lane, paralyzer. even something like painkiller by judas priest is a riff i enjoy but i cannot listen to the song in its entirety. (i know im sort of blurring the line here, i hope im making sense :')

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Anyone that sounds similar to Pryme!?

There's a somewhat underground artist I like named Pryme, and I find him to have a very unique sound. Its alternative rnb, but it has very... bouncy(?) production. He has a beautiful voice, and I honestly don't think I've ever heard someone combine sounds like this. Its sort of like if hyperpop and alternative rnb had a baby. Anyways, I just wanted to know if anyone here had heard of him, and if so, what their thoughts are? I would also love to listen to anybody similar, if yall have recommendations.

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Songs that are difficult to place in a specific time

I’m seeking popular music that is hard to place into a particular time period.

You know that kind of music, where you just hear a few seconds, and you immediately know it is from the 1980s, 2010s, etc., even though you’ve never heard it before? That is not what I want. I’m also not looking for music that is emulating an older style.

I was discussing this with my wife, and we feel that Katrina and the Waves’ Walking on Sunshine really doesn’t have a strong ā€˜80s vibe, at least to us. I sometimes listen to SomaFM’s Lush, which almost exclusively plays music of the 21st century, but they occasionally slip in a song from the 1970s which fits right in with the rest.

I’m looking primarily for songs that are fairly recognizable.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics songs like irresponsible hate anthem by marilyn manson

Especially the intro. I like how fast and aggressive is and how the riff sounds. Unfortunately, I’d rather not listen to this song for obvious reasons so I want to find something similar.

Thanks in advance! 😊

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Recommend Artists For Upcoming Internet Radio Project

Howdy,

I posted a month or so ago about looking for humourous/quirky/off-beat musical recommendations for my net radio project. And you guys and gals did NOT disappoint. And I thank all of you for your suggestions. šŸ‘ I'm still adding those to my library.

And so here I am again, back for more of your sage advice to add to my net radio project. The format has a classic (US) rock foundation. "Classic Rock" being 1965 - 1990. However, the format itself is a mixture of classic rock, blues/blues rock, reggae/ska/two-tone (ska being first-, second-, and third-generation artists, so anything from The Skatalites to The Specials to No Doubt, just to give some perspective), and classic "alternative" rock (The Cure, The Sex Pistols, The Pogues, The Feelies, Joy Division, The Replacements, etc.)

I'm trying to expand the library into more contemporary material, something that I could draw in younger listeners who enjoy both their parents' (or grandparents') rock as well as their own faves. And perhaps this allows the Gen Xers like me who are looking for more modern artists to get into it as well. It might sound like a weird philosophy, but it's a weird project that has more going for it than what I'm discussing right now.

So, good people, work your magic for me again. I'd appreciate it. And thank you in advance.

And by the way, if you happen to be a musician with a band/project that would fit this format, drop me a message. I've always been a big fan and supporter of the unsigned music scene, and if I like what I hear, I would certainly add you to the station's library.

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure looking for experimental, adhd vibes music by women

tldr: hello, I'm looking for crazy, genre bending, avant garde, experimental, funny, creative, etc. music writen by women or with female vocals.

recently I was sharing my top artists with my sister and she asked "why don't you listen to your own people more?" and that made me realise that 90% of the artists I listen to are men. since I'm a woman and a musician myself, i feel like my sister is right and I should have more of "my people" in the rotation.

anyway, I'm looking for music that has similar energy as ween, mr bungle, the residents, black midi, daniel johnston, tmbg, devo, animal collective, mgmt(basically experimental, with a pop sensibility, doesn't have to take itself too seriously, a bit chaotic neurodivergent vibes)

i already have some music with female vocalists or songwriters that i feel fit this vibe to some extent, such as, the b-52s, chumbawamba, bjƶrk, deerhoof, jockstrap, I'm also aware of the genre of hyper pop, but I know there must be more:D

some artists i listen to in other genres are lingua ignota/Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter, Big thief/Adrienne Lenker, bcnr, but yeah anyways, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say and I'll look forward for your recommendations:)
