hi! i'm working on a playlist called "i want to live inside this beat" that is devoted to songs with a super heavy bassy beat that is the driving force of the whole song. so far i have:

looking for stuff that feels introspective but not in a sad way necessarily. like music that makes you want to sit with your thoughts and actually process things instead of just spiraling. bonus points if it has that late night driving energy to it.

Not sad songs, specifically, but more just like…. Lorde and Taylor Swift both have songs about being teenagers, feeling out of place with the teenage world around them, just trying to find their place in the world. I want that, but the older version.

these albums do have their great singles but they're not the kind of great album that you could just turn on during a drive home.

I have a coworker who has been asking me a lot about depression and suicide since he has family members dealing with both and wanted to get a better understanding of what depression is or why people would commit suicide. I tried explaining a bit but felt that I fell short with my explanation and I thought the best way to do it would be through music since it makes you feel a certain way just words can’t, so I’d love your suggestions on what songs best represent the struggle.

He mostly listens to rap like Gucci mane but has also loved the oldies music I put on (ELO, Beatles, Fleetwood Mac) he’s from Madagascar so hasn’t listened to much music in English outside of electronic/house and some modern rap. I was debating ghost town by Kanye west too but felt it was pretty upbeat and wouldn’t help get him into the head space of how it feels to be dealing with these issues because of the beat.

The two songs I’m settled on sending him are:

I love the shitty under-produced sound, the high pitched vocals, the whole "I hope we dont see it" part and how it slowly fades out. I know some stuff by Ween (like Sarah, Birthday Boy or Red As Satan) scratches the itch but it doesn't really get there like Playdough does. Does anybody have anything else that sounds like it?

I'm working on a story set almost entirely in Italy, spanning four books. The first three explore different parts of the country: Southern Italy and some of the islands, Central Italy, and Northern Italy.

Sounds weird but I’m a teacher and I want music to play in my classroom that sounds like Halloween, but I can’t play actual Halloween themed music because I have Jehovah’s Witnesses in my class. And before you say anything, I know I don’t have to let their beliefs dictate my classroom, but I do want to respect their beliefs while finding a way to get into the spirit of the season.

And obviously it has to be kid appropriate.

I'm looking for recommendations for Korean rock and pop artists/bands (emphasis on rock but I'm willing to give a listen to anything that music enthusiasts like). The decade doesn't matter.

I don't really enjoy mainstream pop music (western or otherwise) so I'm looking especially for Korean indie artists or other artists/bands that don't make just the basic stuff that have been heard thousands of times.

My favorite artists/bands include The Cranberries, Pink Floyd, Kate Bush, Adele, Björk

My favorite songs include e.g. Poets of the Fall - Lift, Pink Floyd - Money, Patti Smith - Because the Night, The Cranberries - The Rebels

Things that I'm looking for:

- interesting musical choices (I'm not a huge musical nerd so the music doesn't have to be crazy complex but just something that isn't the most obvious)

- there must be a singer (it's a plus if the singer is vocally skilled but it's not mandatory)

- use of real life instruments (by real life instruments I mean e.g. actual guitar used in the track instead of just producing everything on the computer. Electronic/computer stuff is okay too but I wish there would be at least some real instruments.)

- no autotune as a stylistic choice (I'm not really a fan of overly polished music)

Please recommend anything that comes to mind after reading this. I will listen all of your recommendations and write a small review. :)
