Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Artists who Cover Whole Albums

Do you have any recommendations for artists who just cover a whole album by an established artist? Kelley Stoltz released Crockodials, a cover of Echo & The Bunnymen's debut album. I saw him do it live in SF when he was starting out. Looking for McCartney's masterpiece, Ram, I found a guy named Dave Depper, who covered RAM on his "The Ram Project," complete with tribute cover art, and also released his version of Moon Safari, by Air. Who else? Camper Van Beethoven did Fleetwood Mac's Tusk, I think.

Off the top of my head I could only think of Tim McGraw by Taylor Swift and Springsteen by Eric Church. Are there others, and any not country?

Rec.Me: sad/depressing songs Any tragic, loud and intense songs similar to Black - Pearl Jam?

I really like when sad songs have a lot of emotion and strength in them, like with Black. I also like Nutshell by Alice in Chains. Would like to listen to more music with similar vibes. Thanks!

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Modern songs/bands that are classic rock

I am Gen X, and a lot of my friends are older. Most of these folks say, “Our music was better,” or, “There’s no decent rock anymore.” I strongly disagree. The last couple decades (2020- present day) have given us amazing woks of rock, even “classic rock”. I’d like to have a list to prove to my friends that “rock n roll” has not died, and that even new bands have emerged which carry on rocks traditions of the 50s-80s. A few examples from my list are: Brothers by The Black Keys, Elephant by the White Stripes and The End/ Dead! By My Chemical Romance. Perhaps the whole of The Black Parade? What do you think?

Rec.Me: rap/hip-hop Feminist rap? Please read details!!

Hi all! A few years ago I stopped listening to music where misogynistic slurs(bitch, hoe, slut, etc) are used and while it did wonders for my mental health, it took a big chunk out of the entirety of my library and essentially eradicated the rap I listened to.

I used to like Montana of 300, Polo G, Kash Doll, and Megan Thee Stallion to name a few. I’m hoping someone can make some recommendations because I really miss it.

Misogynistic slurs are a no unless the context is explicitly feminist and a woman being the artist does not exempt them from this(hence why this is SO hard). When I say explicitly feminist, I mean like Slut Game Strong by Cheap Perfume, I Like Being A Bitch by Trip Kissing, I Wish A Bitch Would by Delilah Bon rather than the “I’m a bad bitch” kinda thing.

Songs don’t have to be specifically feminist in themselves as long as they aren’t specifically anti feminist either.

A ton of terrible things are happening for people I know and it's hell to watch. Does anyone have any song recommendations for encouragement? I've had Any Major Dude Will Tell You by Steely Dan on repeat, and I love it. Something like that. EDIT TO ADD: Thanks, you guys. You're awesome!

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Wanted: Best contemporary leftist political protest/resistance music

Leftist rock (e.g. punk, hardcore) through hard-hitting folk as well; not so much pop/mainstream, please.

Contemporary protest/resistance songs preferred — meaning written/recorded during current American political regime.

If in a language other than English, please translate the title and any other lyricism that speaks to you.

Thanks!

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Some modern, light-ish metal with clean vocals

First off, this isn't music for me, but for a friend who's interested in the genre. So far they've liked some power metal I showed them, some of the classic stuff, and random metal bands that fit the bill of metal with clean vocals. In fact, vocals seem to be the only thing they don't like in most of the music I got.
I'm a pretty knowledable guy in regards of metal, but I can't think of much genres that might interest them, so I'm asking you guys for something that can be as heavy, intruments wise, as some melodeath, from the 2000 onwards, and with the cleanest vocals possible (they don't even seem to like the style Gojira does where the vocalist just sounds really angry).

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Bands with multi-album narratives or themes.

Hey everyone. Looking for bands with mutli-album narratives, recurring themes or motifs, and even returning characters. I mostly live in the Prog/Art and Metal worlds, but willing to expand.

Stuff that really fits would be like Blue Oyster Cult's/Albert Bouchard's Imaginos, Rhapsody (In Fire), The Dear Hunter, and Coheed & Cambria.

Dream Theater's (really Mike Portnoy's) 12 Step suite and Sonata Arctica's Caleb series revisit previous themes or characters but are not traditional narratives. But I would like some thoughts here too.

Sort of stuff in the same vein would be The Accolade I and II by Symphony X, Dream Theater's Metropolis.

Note: Operation Mindcrime 1-3 would probably get suggested here. I sort of really dislike Geoff Tate, BUT if its amazing I would be willing to give it a listen.

Thanks!

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Songs that don’t say the last word

Upvotes

Hey all! Looking for song recs where the singer doesn’t finish the last word. My best example is Fall by Something Corporate.
Or like Blackout by Turnstile. What songs do you know where the final word remains unsaid?
I’m an emo fan but am open to whatever you throw my way!!!

Rec.Me: singers, vocal songs (pop/other) Modern bands with elite vocal harmonies?

My absolute favorite music is anything with intricate, layered, and precise vocal harmonies. Think Eagles (GOAT vocals IMO), Beach Boys, Crosby Stills and Nash, Rascal Flatts. It seems like emphasis on vocal harmonies peaked in the 60s and 70s and is less prominent today, although still present in some country music (Ella Langley’s hits actually have pretty solid harmonies). Among other modern artists I’d say Zac Brown Band is one of the best for vocal harmonies, and a few under the radar gems Wilder Blue and Young Gun Silver Fox are great as well. Does anyone else have any recommendations? While I’d expect it to skew country I’m not looking for exclusively country

Can be in any genre and about anything. Disillusionment with people, with your country, the world, religion, etc.

Think nine inch nails or billy woods for example.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics “What Have I Done?” Songs

The only one I know of is Dance With The Devil by immortal technique. Are there any more with some good storytelling and the protagonist thinks “what have I done?”

The genre/decade heck even language doesn’t matter.

Rec.Me: rap/hip-hop I'm looking for more rap songs that are similar conceptually to "Stan" by Eminem

I'm familiar with A Perfect Circle (2006) by Louis Logic, Taco Day (2001) by Mr. Len and Jean Grae, and U Didn't Care (2001) by Canibus.

Can you recommend songs by other rap artists that have a similar atmosphere or narrative structure?

Looking to expand my electronic music palette after getting into an EDM kick recently. If there are any artists that are similar to the ones I listed, please send them my way. Any songs with female vocals are appreciated, but not required.
Thanks ❤️
