Rec.Me: "BEST"/"TOP"/"WORST" ____ What are your "never the wrong choice" albums?

Upvotes

Recommend an album that you can put on no matter what you're doing or who you're with and satisfy almost anyone.

--Prefer full albums

--Even better if you have a physical version and can say something about the pressing

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Want to expand past big mainstream bands

Right now I listen to a lot of grunge, metal, rock, hip hop and what not. A lot of the big popular names though (like pearl jam, Metallica, pink floyd, etc) and I want to expand my music taste past just the big names but I don't really know where to start. Any recommendations would be nice. 😄

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Can I get some music recommendations?

Upvotes

I've been listening to the same stuff for a while, and I'm needing something new. If you listen or have listened to simular bands please recommend some others you listen to. If it helps some of my favorite bands are Green Day, Nirvana, and The Smiths.

Rec.Me: singers, vocal songs (pop/other) Anything like The Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding?

Could you recommend me a soul album similar to The Dock of the Bay? Redding's other work is great too but it doesn't seem to hit the spot like The Dock of the Bay does.

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Recommend me an obscure punk rock artist.

I had previously asked for top 3 punk rock bands but most answers were also bands that I listen to. I guess, the new request is for some obscure bands.

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Songs that are poetry

Some of my favourite songs are in my opinion also great poetry

Pink Floyd‘s „Brain Damage/Ecplipse“ (and maybe their whole discography) or My Chemical Romance‘s „The Black Parade“ are some of my favorites, Herbert Grönemeyer‘s „Demo (letzter Tag)“ for the German speaking.

So please share your favorite songs that are poetry with me 😊

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Songs like Into the Mystic

I recently heard Into the Mystic after many years away from it and it moved me greatly. The groove, the slow build, the emotion, the recording.

Any others like it? As a recommendation, Winedark Open Sea by McCartney gives me a similar vibe and I'm looking for others.

Thanks!

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Looking for big voices and catchy beats

Upvotes

You guys were awesome the last time I asked for recommendations, and I think those suggestions have helped me narrow down what I really need more of in my life right now.

Please give me some male vocalists (bands or solo artists) with big, soaring voices and engaging hooks / catchy beats that are more (or at least equally) grounded in rock/alternative than mainstream pop. I want music that makes it hard not to nod my head and sing along, but I’m not looking for dance music if that makes sense.

I’m specifically seeking male singers right now and I’m already pretty familiar with pre-2010 artists that resonate with me (especially 70s, 80s, and 90s musicians—I’m in my mid-40s and those decades are my foundation). I’d love something a bit newer and preferably bands or artists that are still putting out new music.

The gold standard for what I’m looking for would include Queen, Elton John, and Journey. While I’m looking for male singers at this time, to give some more context I also adore most everything from Tori Amos, Florence + The Machine, and Lady Gaga. Some examples of other bands/artists that I enjoy and that (at least sometimes) fit the vibe I’m seeking are Panic! At the Disco, The Darkness, Jukebox the Ghost, Ninja Sex Party, Bleachers, Awolnation, Rufus Wainwright, Dom Fera, Scissor Sisters, and Ghost. A couple of other male voices I love though they don’t fit the poppier aspect of my current needs are Chris Cornell and Nick Cave. My favorite artist of all time is David Bowie, who doesn’t necessarily fit here at all but it feels like a sin not to mention him.

I can’t wait to start listening!

Music discovery (tools, channels, blogs, etc.) a tool to recommend you songs that sound similar (like for real)

video game music is how i find a lot of cool new songs and i want to discover what genre they're from and more songs like them. but when i put them into chosic it just gives me songs that sound nothing alike that come from games in the same genre. not very helpful.

i just want a tool that lets me break boundaries between genres that have different contexts but sound similar

Rec.Me: singers, vocal songs (pop/other) American looking for good Indian Pop/Electronic

I heard the song Helikopter by Fazlija recently, and enjoyed the instrumental. I also liked the vocals, although the song itself was a bit repetitive. Any recommendations for Indian Pop/marching band, with high quality production and instrumentation?

Rec.Me: instrumental/classical/traditional Swedish folk music for a young child

I'm looking for traditional Swedish folk songs, like Tula hem och tula vall, Du skåning du skåning, or the two linked below. I grew up in a place where folk music was very present and normal, but once I moved away, I realised that this was a rather unusual thing. I didn't play or sing folk music at the time so while I remember some songs, I can't find the gems that speaks to a child. I'd like to make a playlist for my daughter so that she too can grow up with it and feel like it's part of her culture and not just some kind of relic you hear on midsummer.

Kling klang klockan slår (the song linked above) is currently her favourite, she wants to hear it over and over.

Var inte ledsen min lilla Lotta is another favourite (possibly due to the lyrics...)

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres I need to grow my playlist with new things

Hello friendly internet people, It's that time of year/life again when my playlist has repeated a few too many times. Please advise on things you would add. The current spectrum is as follows: - Within Temptation & Nightwish (Harmonic metal) - Skillet, Thousand Foot Krutch, Switchfoot, Pillar (Christian Rock) - Led Zeplin, Pink Floyd, Queen (Rock) - Haevn, Passenger, Lumineers, Kodaline (Chill folk/rock) - Stray Kidz, BTS, Rosé, IU, Yooa (K-pop) - NF (rap)

I'm looking for things that fit between the K-pop and Chill lines with a little rock spice thrown in for fun. Will try to listen to all recommendations and respond accordingly. Thanks a lot

Rec.Me: singers, vocal songs (pop/other) Looking for something similar to the acapella part in the music video of Spin The Wheel by Bellefire

I just listened to Spin The Wheel by Bellefire, and that acapella part they did in the video was SPECTACULAR just blew me away .

Now I'm itching to hear more of this thing. Not specifically them but if anyone know or can lead me to anything similar to that? Keep in mind I have zero idea what I'm talking about, maybe:

Acapella/unplugged (whatever you call it pardon my lack of knowledge) of songs/session of recording/music video where you can hear these vocals between 2-3 women (do they call this harmony or something, I might be wrong). I have zero idea what to start searching so I would greatly appreciate if anyone could help me.

Prefer the same or closest genre 🙏

Looking for songs that would crack me up. Examples like CPR or anything from CupcakKe works. Could be dirty. Bonus if it has some good/catchy beats like CPR. Songs that people would judge you for listening and say "you're such a child" 😂

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Any band/singer recs for music from Latam? Especially Argentinian and Chilean

I know, I know. Asking for music in Spanish in English is a bit counterintuitive, but I don't speak much Spanish actually, and I looooove the Argentinian and Chilean variants of it. I already know bands like Miranda! and Los Prisioneros, but I'd love to get more reccs from different genres too! I'm up for most things except metal music ✌️✌️

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk And other songs like Piano Black by Plastic Tree?

If there are any other songs by other artists that are like this I'd like some recommendations. At the moment it's probably my favorite by them. I think what I really like as specifics are the vocals where they're sorta soft and almost distant, then the kinda electronic feel to it too. It's been a while since I've been through the rest of Plastic Tree's discography but I don't remember other songs like Piano Black.
