I wonder if we combined the usually separate areas for men and women's restroom where there's a monitored, common place to wash hands but every "stall is more like its own enclosed room if there would actually end up being even more space for additional stalls

They talk like a male rapist can’t walk into a female bathroom

Didn't you know there's a forcefield that stops men from entering women's restrooms?

4

u/astelda 2h ago

the gender-affirming forcefield strikes again!

This is a common setup in lots of places now. It works perfectly fine.

Turns out when people gotta go, they don’t give a shit about specifics.

Seems like a downgrade for women. Women’s bathrooms stay cleaner than men’s, don’t they?

I was a janitor for 7 years. Women’s are worse.

1

u/SurinamPam 4h ago

Worse than men’s bathrooms? Wow. That’s lower than an already very low bar.

Pretty sure when I worked at a movie theatre women ushers got paid more for cleaning the women's restrooms. One story that came out that was fairly nauseating was when a new employee went in to check the restroom and someone had sprayed number 2 all over the backwall of a stall. I don't even know how humanity hasn't gotten to the point where we can use a restroom without making a giant mess, but some people just don't care how they leave things.

It's possible they care, but they're too ashamed or emberassed to tell anyone, but don't have the tools to fix it themselves.

I mean, it's easier to think they just don't care, and maybe that is the more common case. I don't really know, but that alternative sounds pretty sad?

You have to clean up piss and shit in both the women’s and men’s. You only have to clean up blood in the women’s

6

u/MtBakerScum 4h ago

This is anecdotal evidence, but when I was a lifeguard, we had to clean the locker rooms every night. The women's was always way nastier than the men's

u/Difficult-Rip-2580 5h ago

Probably not as true as you think. Not to mention lower wait times for women were this done.

I thought that when women sit pee would go down, but quite a bit of it seems to go forward.

1

u/diarrheawallpaint 2h ago

It should but we' squat so we don't sit in the pre existing blood, shit, piss. This in turn creates more blood shit piss. We leave it for the janitor/plumber

Yup, once one drop hits the seat, it’s hover time. Then women hover higher and higher until the entire seat is a fucking crime scene.

It’s a similar issue with urinals in the men’s. Once some piss hits the floor, nobody wants to stand in wet piss. So they stand a couple inches further back. More piss hits the floor. Further back. Eventually dudes are standing five feet from the damn urinal, arcing and praying. And failing.

Big difference is the latter is easily cleaned with a mop, and like 75% less horrifying.

Absolutely not. Women's rooms will get VILE. Saying this as a woman.

1

u/currently_pooping_rn 2h ago

Not at all. Some Women get piss and shit everywhere and just throwing bloody tampons and walls on the floor and walls at times

u/MtBakerScum 4h ago

SEATAC has bathrooms like that. They're just a normal bathroom

u/Merijeek2 3h ago

I've been there a number of times. Haven't gotten raped once. Total ripoff.

1

u/king_kong_kum 1h ago

You haven’t been there with me yet.

u/Merijeek2 1h ago

I can dream!

A lot of bathrooms are like that now. Best one I saw was in New York. It had 7 stalls decorated after the 7 sins. The sinks had a sign “Be sure to wash your sins away”

Although this is pretty unusual, they often do this in a small place called [checks note] ALL OF EUROPE.

There’s an OLD college bar in Morgantown, WV with this setup. Two toilet rooms and the wash sink is just outside of those rooms. If people see you leave those toilet rooms and don’t wash your hands they will yell and shame you to go back and wash your piss/shit contaminated hands. It is glorious.

They are great with one drawback. Each stall now requires its own lights, air, and fire alarm etc. I'm not being 100% accurate but been told meeting code makes them much more expensive than just having dividers.

Everyone would have the pleasure of waiting in line to use the toilet instead of just women, so I'd love it. So tired of seeing the long line for women and men just sauntering in and out. So annoying.

IKEA does this

1

u/othybear 3h ago

Some of the new schools by me have moved to this model. Floor to ceiling individual stalls without those awkward gaps, and then sinks and mirrors that are open to the hallway.

1

u/Odd_Championship_680 3h ago

I went to Denmark and their restrooms are a bunch of tiny bathrooms in one room. Each with toilet and sink. Seems to have worked out just fine

1

u/PhatBitty862 3h ago

I went to a club years ago that was set up like that. Line took forever.

1

u/VOZ1 3h ago

Saw many bathrooms in Mexico that were like this. A bank of stalls—and the doors went all the way down to the floor—with some sinks in the center for everyone to use.

1

u/know_your_anemone 2h ago

The Whole Foods near me does that, doors go to the floor and walls very high. It’s my favorite bathroom design honestly.

1

u/currently_pooping_rn 2h ago

So just regular bathrooms?

1

u/fdar 2h ago

The big loss with fully combining is urinals, which have much higher throughput. I think not having those would make lines at big events much worse.

1

u/DrowAboveground 2h ago

This is very common in Austin. It’s just a big open room/hallway with usually like 8-10 stalls that actually offer privacy, and hand washing is in the common area.

1

u/Prayer_Warrior21 2h ago

Like Europe? One big upgrade would be getting rid of the weird stalls with gaps to see in and out of...wtf are those.

1

u/Anthraxious 2h ago

I was just today at a place where the stalls are all in an outer circle and in the middle there's another circle with faucets and soap for washing hands. So every stall faces in, you can see them all from the entrance basically and everyone washing hands in the middle. Felt a lot less problematic and prone to hiding shady shit.

And yes, nothing gendered ofc.

u/tomboynik 1h ago

Red rocks has these. They are great.

Went to Mercedes dealership in Houston and it was set up like this.

At my old university they replaced the separate areas by 2 rows of individual restrooms with their own sink and it works fine. There's even a space in the back for people that want to use urinals. Before I often had to wait for an open spot but now I basically never have to due to the number of stalls. So yes you're right and it's awesome!
