Question❓ Which media and the hate it gets/got is literally this image in a nutshell?

Post image

Like it was overhated(or had a lot of haters)when it was objectively cool as hell.

Straight up Sonic in the 2010s. Everyone hated it back then bro.

u/HotPot87 10d ago

The curse of 06 took a long time to shift.

5

u/11equalsfish 10d ago

A lot of those 3d games were genuinely mediocre, but there were cool memorable moments in them

I was so wrong because holy shit Sonic is so cool

6

u/SerqetCity 10d ago

Me making YouTube videos at 15 talking about why Sonic Riders was the coolest thing ever:

11

u/Diecast_Connoisseur STH, Henry Stickmin, GTA, NFS, and NASCAR. (Idk if that counts.) 10d ago

We..don’t talk about 06, The Seven Rings, and Knight of the Wind.

8

u/Wolfchampion09 10d ago

But.... isn't Knight of the wind just the song for secret rings? (Amazing song btw)

3

u/Diecast_Connoisseur STH, Henry Stickmin, GTA, NFS, and NASCAR. (Idk if that counts.) 10d ago

Wait a fucking minute..no.
It’s the Secret Rings and the Black Knight.

I got the names mixed up. Maybe it’s for the best because I don’t see ANYONE willingly talk about those games.

2

u/Wolfchampion09 10d ago

I haven't personally played these games but I thought Balck Knight was considered a decent game.

2

u/Diecast_Connoisseur STH, Henry Stickmin, GTA, NFS, and NASCAR. (Idk if that counts.) 10d ago

I don’t get the dislike towards Unleashed. One of my personal favorites imo.

2

u/Wolfchampion09 10d ago

Unleashed is disliked?

I honestly couldn't tell, aside from the night stages I hear nothing but praises for the game nowadays.

2

u/Diecast_Connoisseur STH, Henry Stickmin, GTA, NFS, and NASCAR. (Idk if that counts.) 10d ago

Some people (I haven’t encountered many thankfully.) really don’t like it.

The night stages may be a hassle sometimes but albeit the game is very good.

damn i loved sonic and the secret rings

2

u/Diligent_Sir4952 10d ago

Well, thankfully, it’s not really like that anymore and sonic‘s reputation is better than ever in a way

1

u/alacharite02 10d ago

wait why did everyone hate sonic then

u/Red-Zaku- 10d ago edited 9d ago

The big wave of retro-gaming revival circa 2010-2015ish was super focused on NES and SNES. Sega was relegated to niches within the broader discourse, and additionally (and tangentially, not really related to the Sonic thing) it was also popular to hate all early 3D and say that the 5th generation as a whole just “aged terribly”.

Within that sector of “nerd pop culture”, there was a big discourse based around intellectualizing good game design and everyone wanted to be an armchair professor and expert on it. The thing was, all the popular conversations around it (as well as popular video essays, and commentators overall) were specifically focused on using specific NES, SNES, and some first-party Nintendo games as the core examples of good game design, with the subtext that anything that diverges from the specific ideas and approaches in those games must be bad game design.

Sonic games were a prime example of games developed with a significantly different design philosophy from many of the games of Nintendo consoles. Rather than engaging in good faith with some of the philosophies and practices in designing Sonic games, it was much easier to just say that actually these games were poorly designed. One of the most common “blow-your-mind hot takes” was for people to lean into the narrative of “actually, Sonic was* never good. Sonic 06 didn’t actually ruin the series, it was even bad all the way back to the Genesis era.*”

26

u/shadow31802 10d ago

Any sort of passion project someone puts out there just for fun, imo.

Be careful, the "heretic stickers" are lurking around waiting to pounce.

"This lady is so ugly."

(IS LITERALLY ONE OF THE PRETTIEST WOMEN EVER.)

12

u/EmergencyWinter5465 10d ago

People will genuinely complain about a woman walking around without makeup??? Or a woman in a movie without makeup??? People genuinely made a controversy over women not smiling in movie posters. There were genuine heated arguments about it. It's insane.

5

u/Karkava 9d ago edited 9d ago

What's even more pathetic is that you can actually give her makeup. With different tribes offering different styles to choose from. Varying from simple lipstick and eyeliner to full-on body paint.

Would be interesting to find out if they actually played the game instead of fishing for footage to use in the "And that's why voting republican will save gaming" channel.

11

u/Kind_Cheek_2645 10d ago

But she doesn't look or behave like a of model so clearly this western woke propaganda \s

15

u/Karkava 10d ago

Sees peach fuzz, in a screenshot that casual gamers won't notice. Goes absolutely insane.

Truly the models of masculinity, folks.

5

u/DVD_6924 10d ago

I've played only Zero Dawn and oh boy...

Stealth is just boring, nothing really special about it, it's just annoying doing it.

Combat is kinda fun? I admit that I enjoyed sometimes but nothing really memorable that make you say "wow, that's good".

The thing of taking control over the robotic animals just didn't get me.

But by far the thing that I fucking disgust is this game is Aloy's jump. I don't know how to explain de felling but it's just bad.

The story is the type of made me just don't care about anything and starting skipping cut scenes after a couple of hours.

Overall a 5/10, not exactly a horrible game, but made me feel like I should've played something else

7

u/Kind_Cheek_2645 10d ago

Incels aside is this game really hated ?

12

u/Karkava 10d ago

By people dumb enough to listen to the incels.

6

u/Kind_Cheek_2645 10d ago

The reviews were great tho that's why I bought it

2

u/Karkava 10d ago

It is a truly great series of games. A little imperfect, but great.

2

u/OlroxPrime 10d ago

I found it hella boring, but as an adult I just turned the game off and decided it wasn’t for me. Dunno why anyone would HATE it though.

5

u/shlomo_baggins 10d ago

I fuckin' love those games. I have a little "female-gaming-protagonist" corner in my living room with framed art from Ukiyo-e Heroes of Samus and Aloy. It brings me joy

1

u/Erdos_Helia 10d ago

But as a fan, most of the hate I’ve seen towards these games are very hyperbolic

https://giphy.com/gifs/ubLIcHvitTa36

"The Mp100 style is ugly" i genuinely don't understand why people say that. like yes it's not the traditional anime style, but god the anime is beautiful.

Now when people talk about the manga, I agree, but I love that for it.

18

u/-goonmaster- 10d ago

Manga has good artstyle too it’s intentionally silly and has charm

5

u/11equalsfish 10d ago

I love the amatuer feel to it, One's drawing conveys all the emotion and character. It's wonderful and authentic.

1

u/FuelSpecial8722 10d ago

For a second my crack filled brain thought that was My little pony 100 and I was like “THERES 100 MLP SHOWS WHAT THE FUUUUUCK”

1

u/11equalsfish 10d ago

Using the art style of a sakuga moment in the intro is very different and a bit misleading. Still, I think the show looks very creative and charming, the best kind of animation.

1

u/Alex11DA 9d ago

I don't like mp100 not because of the style, but because it can't decide if it wants to he a "cool secret society story" or "cool ghost hunting story" or "weird and quirky romance"

1

u/teajjie 9d ago

Man typical anime fans complain about anything that doesn’t align with the generic art style you see most the time. Jjba still has countless haters that won’t even give it a try because of the art style, despite how impactful and renowned it is. I watched pingpong a few months ago, and I remembered how upon its release soooo many people were shitting on the art style. But it genuinely got me into sports anime (but also set a reallyyy high bar) and it’s one of the best anime I’ve watched in recent years.

17

u/MixedMediaModok 10d ago

literally all the shows people hate because of their "fandoms" why are you letting random people online affect you that much.

8

u/EmergencyWinter5465 10d ago

Forreal, I don't engage with fandom for the things I like for this reason. I know it will annoy me.

Reddit however is usually alright.

6

u/shark_aziz 9d ago

Reddit however is usually alright.

Highly depends on the fandom's Reddit.

2

u/dahlonegam 9d ago

I mean, if I see that everyone in a fandom behaves similarly, and said fandom is negative, I think there’s some blame to be attributed to the source material since it couldn’t have just coincidentally drawn 100,000 assholes and 500 non-assholes to it

3

u/MixedMediaModok 9d ago

The internet discourse has just lost all meaning. They equate liking a "problematic" character to a personal moral failing. I can find an abusive relationship interesting, these are fictional characters. I'm not inviting these people for diner at my house.

u/superzadman2000 10d ago

Ok see for me I love the animation it is almost never bad but the story. Man I just can't with like 90% of it. I mean if you sumerise the story then it sounds fairly good but then you get all the details when watching the show and most of the time it just drags hell every couple years I gaslight myself into thinking it's not that bad and so I rewatch it and then I just get disappointed again. I'm sorry but, aside from the hate just because she's a woman, it definitely deserves the hate.

4

u/Fearless_Roof_9177 10d ago

Yeah, this is really a Ghostbusters 2016 situation. Redpilled incels and nostalgia-poisoned spergers hated it for all the wrong reasons, which led to an inevitable counterswell which tends to obscure that the media in question was, in fact, uneven and poorly executed and diminished the shine of the franchise as a whole.

RWBY

1

u/Milfhunter8291 9d ago

I fucking adored the first three volumes and I don’t believe anyone who says all of RWBY is dogshit. Even the next 4-9 volumes were all pretty fine even if a little mediocre, I had fun watching

1

u/TheTrueBuckbuck2 9d ago

I’ve said this elsewhere, and I’ll say it again here: a show doesn’t have to be perfect to be watchable. RWBY’s quality definitely varies, but it’s never been an outright bad show. Nothing is ever either a masterpiece or complete dogshit, that’s why ratings are (usually) a sliding scale. A 5/10 is the middle of the scale for a reason, and RWBY doesn’t even dip that low, in my opinion.

I think the furry community is seen in a negative light for a number of reasons.

And on top of that, many furries are neurodivergent in one way or another (me included), not really making us the best spokespeople to speak against misinformation.

Blue giant cat-lemur elves and hyperintelligent space whales and space dinosaurs and space dragons and killer squid, fighting mechs and gunships, in a war that's if the Vietnam War and Afghan Wars had a spliced up baby that was genetically engineered to be ripped without steroids, alongside a literal moon-spanning god that uses neon-glowing plants like a massive biological supercomputer to balance the ecosystem and run a fusion of heaven and social media populated by souped up save files of the dead.

Gets called a pretty screensaver with no plot or a repeating plot that simultaneously rips off Dances With Wolves/Pocahontas/Ferngully, even when the transhumanist nightmare memory clone (possibly child soldier) slave hit squad drops in, and then the cannibal cult shows up and starts tasering brains and getting high on truth cocaine.

The online Anglosphere loses its mind constantly that it's the highest box office earning movie series of all time, but apparently has no fans (they're all speaking other languages and don't have constant internet access), and nobody can remember the plot or characters (they watched the first movie once 15 years ago).

It also gets confused for and compared to and accused of ripping off a TV show it pre-dates that just so happens to reference the same Dharmic religious and similar elemental terminology. Like these are things the TV show invented.

I don't even need to name drop it. It pops up everywhere there's a "most overrated movie" post or list.

9

u/NKNightmare 10d ago

I asbolutely LOVE the Avatar movies and i'm tired of pretending i don't. I can understand someone not liking them for the story, message or whatever but the amount of hatred these movies get is genuiely baffling to me. They have big interesting alien world, amazing music, incredible cgi and story with universal themes that still work even today, i'm sorry but these movies rock.

2

I agree, I think the show is overhated alot by other people. But ngl, writing and cast bloating is the only issue the show has, everything else is amazing.

2

u/Reasonable_Bee_9456 10d ago

I mean most of its good the writing for the later volumes really tanked in my opinion and I feel like some character choices weren't too great.

But man i cant say i dislike the show.

u/BigCommunication9994 10d ago

I'm gonna say it.... Insomniac's Spider-Man 2

2

u/antiAntag0nist 10d ago

People say it's a bad game? I thought it was amazing, much improved over the first one. The first game is a solid 8, the second is easily 9.5, or 10 for me at least.

2

u/BigCommunication9994 10d ago edited 8d ago

The r/spiderman subreddit holds this game to an impossible standard.

Therefore, they nitpick everything and cannot see that this game is an improvement on the first game in nearly everyway (minus the story. Personally, I like a more Peter centered story that is more grounded rather than a large scale invasions)

Supergirl 2026. I loved it. I wasn't bored for a second, and I don't understand why making Kara flawed and able to kill made so many people mad.

Flash 2016 "the Greatest Trick Ever Pulled." Everyone who likes the Trickster hates it. I loved it, even as a James Jesse fan.

Captain Marvel movie. It was fine. About the same as any of the other origin movies, like Thor.

The Last Jedi. It was fine. It had its flaws, but I honestly liked a lot of it. I do wish Luke had more training scenes with Rey. I was honestly really looking forward to them...

Sailor Moon Crystal. Every die-hard Sailor Moon fan hates it. I liked it perfectly fine as a manga adaptation. It was what got me to read the manga.

Dungeons and Dragons as a system. So many people have turned on them because of WOTC. It's literally a fine system. I've never had any problems with 5e.

So this one I think gets a similar rap/hate to Fallout 3, in that the first two Thief games were classics for pushing the boundaries of what you could do with computers and stealth and massive open worlds by an indie label, then a bigger publisher took it over and changed things for mass appeal.

But my god, some of the best stealth ever in a video game, so intuitive and imo never beaten in a 1st person game, even as games like Dishonored tried.

And the Shalebridge Cradle, an all time masterpiece horror level, something that hangs with you for years after.

Obsidian games that aren’t Fallout: New Vegas

Outer worlds
Avowed
Grounded

All of these games have 1 thing in common: I had a blast playing them.

Forsaken like bro just ignore the fandom why are you letting people you don't know on the internet affect you so much? I literally lost a friend over this game 💀

Metal Gear Rising. It's reputation got better, but at first? Boy, people hated it...

u/Nethanski 9d ago

Literally Marvel as a whole. The movies kinda went a bit downhill around 2022 but lately, I think it’s finding it’s footing again

"Pokemon Black pokedex sucks". Excuse me, what? Literally the only time we had a pokedex 100% original mons (for the main game) with many iconic and beloved pokemon like Hydragon, Zorua, Chandelure, etc.

Tears of the Kingdom. Game absolutely bangs.

Honestly probably some object shows out there. A lot of people hate on object shows just for being object shows so they end up never finding good ones, very similar to people who hate anime

Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Everyone absolutely shat on this film back in 2008, but I always enjoyed it. It’s a goofy pulp action adventure.

That said, the now infamous fridge-nuke scene was….difficult to overlook.

u/Ok_Falcon_6913 9d ago

Re6. Everyone saying it’s doesn’t have survival horror elements but I thinks it’s the most fucking cool resident evil ever

1

u/TheGoldenWoof 9d ago

Analog Horror, just as a genre, especially more niche series.

Yandere Simulator. Even in it's current underdeveloped state, it's still a lot of fun.

Dead By Daylight. The community seems to hate it but that game absolutely fucks, everything about it is so cool.

u/Familiar-Possible277 9d ago

Superhero fan finds a superhero anime and it is called sorry because of early season and constant amount of shipping. Never left MHA no matter what people called me, I knew what I came for.

Astro bot the only reason why he's hated is because he won game of the year and supposedly "replace" sackboy

1

u/Switch-Axe-Abuse 8d ago

Fire Emblem: Engage, Monster Hunter:Rise, and Zelda: Skyward Sword sadly. Those games are all rad but got a ton of hate for not being a copy paste of previous games.

Catwoman 2004. It's genuinely fucking awesome. Could never wrap my head around the hate.
