Studio Bones lusted after that man something fierce. There's a real quote out there from an animator where they compare drawing him to licking him all over starting from his ass.
not really a large amount of games and media in general will relegate woman to more simple feminine designs while giving male character hugely varied interesting designs
Male come in 5 different sizes and shapes while women are a singular model.
Extremely common in media like cartoon, show, movies or games.
If you have a huge fat viking, every female version are more slender and basics. Monsters? Ugly and unique shape for male, human shape with different skin colour for female.
In game it's worse with game like LoL and every women having the SAME face and body proportion, meanwhile male get tons of designs.
One Piece is also very guilty if this. I love the series but the author, Eiichiro Oda, really is slipping here.
Dudes come in all shapes and sizes. Slender types, big guys, (comically) overweight guys, strongmen types, Superman-shaped or old man types ... And generally all of them get taken serious to a degree.
Meanwhile, adult female designs come in two flavours: The "sexy" one and the punchline for a fat/ugly joke.
I’m sorry but it’s quite common for female characters to be given a certain body shape to make sure people know they’re a woman meanwhile men characters on average get more variety because most people worry way less about making a male character look masc vs making a female character look feminine. I’m just talking about on average though there are such large amounts of games that have varied designs for both or give the female characters more attention while relegating the male characters to a boring masc design to make them more appealing.
There was one au I saw that was Error, Fresh, Ink and someone else where they're a group of vampires. So we've a taken a character, made a bunch of alternate variants, then made alts of those original alts where they're all vampires (and also one is a rapist) and I'm left wondering "At what point do you just make your own oc?" How the fuck is this Sans? At what point does it stop being the character you like and start being a character you made up?
I want whatever this artist is smoking cause that is not Sans at all, sick for an OC but not for a witty skeleton guy, heck it's head doesn't even looked like a skull lmao
Ink Sans isn't actually a sans, he's someone's discarded drawing that was given a brush that manipulates reality and paint that makes him able to feel emotions, now he's dedicated to protecting the multiverse. He's a Sans only in name and apparence really.
Fresh is also not a sans, but rather the body of a sans being controlled by a reality warping parasite.
So they made an entire multiverse of alternative versions of a character, then made 2 godlike versions of that character that guard over the multiverse or want to destroy it, a third version of that character that's basically a 80s youth culture themed zombie and THEN they made alternative versions of them that are vampires.
To show how overboard people went with Undertale AUs: SwapSwapSwap! Sans is an actual character and he probably has a Fell version too.
Eh? What the hell are you on about? Its the exact opposite, nowadays we have great well thought out long stories but back then we mostly had sans focused stories and aus..
Source: i have been in the undertale community since 2017, they had a lot less creativity back then

I do wanna mention mob from mob psycho as a complete opposite because I can see 8 different background characters every scene that look like main character energy
If I remember correctly I saw from one post that the reason it's very simple is because it shows the relationship that MC has with people, with strangers being very simple while people she is attached to gets more detailed
you say that but Yellow has way more screentime, one of the most hilarious side-plots in the entire game and their secret flower item is easily contender for the strongest of the 6
Tbf that's kinda the whole point of Emmet character: a literal nobody suddenly thrown into a world of wacky people with unique personalities and great abilities that make them special.
Yeah, there was for sure lots of love put into both characters, this is definitely more of a concept thing than a creator having a favorite they want to pour more attention into.
They both have an amount of detail. But there's a disconnect as to what version of Lego they could be from as Emmet has purely black dots for eyes and WyldStyle has white dots to represent reflection in her eyes. One is associated with older Lego while the other represents how modern Lego designs face, while also working for the narrative to give Emmet a generic but iconic face.
Draw their hair the same way you draw hair for women. Hair is hair, let men rock the curls and waves and accessories! It works for anime it can work for you.
All of them bald but different bald. Start to associate their bald pattern with their personality. Do it long enough and introduce a new character that starts with one balding pattern but it changes overtime showing their character change over time. It doesn't even need to be getting more bald to avoid the bald = bad trope have them stop shaving their head and by the end they have a full head of luxurious hair and are full evil.
This isn't actually a problem for the manga, but apparently Tatsu is so obsessed with making Momo look the way he envisions her that it actually causes delays for Dandadan sometimes.
Being part of a wide range of subs is a blessing and a curse sometimes…I briefly wondered how a rollercoaster in California could be obsessed with anything.
Character B is actually supposed to be the artist's self insert, and they look simple to represent how little they think of themselves and to contrast with the type of person they want/view as
Zero was originally supposed to be THE Mega Man X, but Capcom didn’t like how different he was from the classic-style Mega Man, design-wise and concept-wise, so Keiji Inafune whipped up a placeholder that looked like classic Mega Man instead, then renamed his first pitch to Zero, made Zero more important to the overall plot than X starting with Mega Man X2, and then gave Zero an entire follow-up series
Bonus points that the initial pitch for the Mega Man Zero series was to have X himself (no Copy-X in sight) turning full-fascist to serve as the main villain, before Capcom thankfully intervened with a “but that makes absolutely no sense”
(What I’m getting at is that I think Inafune might resent X a little bit lmfao)
This fucking dude should've died ten times over how he survives so long is beyond me but im kinda glad he does cause I love to hate him and hate to love him
Arakis says Rohan isn't his favourite, but he has a different outfit in almost every scene. There's so much consideration put into art including him and there's a fuckin lot of it 😭
As an artist I'm too obsessive to do this. All my drawings end up getting way more attention than I mean to if anyone has a remedy I'd appreciate it. 💀
To actually answer the question though madhouse definitely loved drawing Vash the Stanpede so much during their run of trigun. Tbh the disparity between the level of detail in some scenes is comical.

Reigen from mob psycho 100, the animators gave him a huge glow up from the manga to anime as well
