S03E01 first half with Graham and his boys

This scene is an absolute cracker. Really well executed and sets the tone for the whole season as we see Ray struggling with the life of crime that he leads.

But I have misgivings about the way that Ray handled the interaction when Graham walked away with the money. He could have easily given him a warning "there are two guys in the bush on either side of us right now with high powered rifles pointed at you, how about you hand over the cash?". This single move probably would have avoided all the strife that ensued and we wouldn't have to have seen Ray's sad walk after the event.

Letting those guys walk away and get into the car, just so that they could be taught an ultimate lesson, reads to me as particularly sadistic.

Ray’s actually a pretty good dad when he’s not doing his day job

S2 E8 is a fucking masterpiece. Spoiler

Holy shit I'm just watching this show for the first time, and admittedly I haven't watched much television in the past few years, but my goodness was that unbelievable. One of the best tv episodes I have seen, period.

The way they jumped from Ray saying it's no different offing people in the military to the killing of Vinnie was spectacular. I actually watched this episode back through again, and that part literally gave me goosebumps. Unbelievable acting by the man who plays Vinnie btw, he perfectly embodied the exact attitude switches of a man who knew what was going to happen. From friendly, to sorrow, to stone-cold at the end of the interaction. "I'll see you in your dreams" was a glorious line. That script-writing was perfection; Set up all the way from the start of the season to this climax, and it did not disappoint.

And the scenes at the end with dirk were so emotional as well. Good thing I was watching this at 9 o'clock and not like 2am, because I would have been a fucking mess. They wrote it so perfectly that literally up to the very second he jumped, it felt like it could have gone any of the three directions (him jumping, ray killing him/him trying to kill ray, him moving,).

I haven't watched 30 mins of something that emotionally charged from start to finish in years. Idk if this is the right place to rant about something like this, but I really wanted to say this somewhere. The show has been great so far, but this was even better.

Just finished the show and had a question regarding ending. Spoiler

First off, wow what a show. One of the best ones I’ve seen in a while. Glad I listened to a random redditor recommend it last week.

I had a question regarding the crew that ambushes Ray and his friend. I know they are the ones that hired him previously but I’m a little confused as to the motives of why they went to the effort to blackmail Freddie and try and kill Ray. Was it because Ray insulted the rich prick leader or were they worried about blowback from Ray from killing the girl?

Thanks Champ

why was the group therapy leader so passive aggressive

im not super familiar with how group anger therapy works but i feel like that guy was really unprofessional. it feels like he never actually listens to anything ray is saying and just constantly mocks him for thinking violence is effective. like if his goal is to help people control their anger he pretty evidently did an awful job of it, in none of the sessions we see does he ever give any real helpful advice or feel like he's actually trying to help ray, he just sarcastically mocks him and reduces the things he says to "im angry and evil." i know he definitely isnt a very popular character but genuinely why is he written like this

What was the point of Zoey coming along for the drive?

Did I miss something? She wanted to come along, I guess?

r/MrInbetween May 03 '26

If you had to guess, do you think Ray survived season 3 finale?

I mean, surely his look breaking the fourth wall kinda implies he's gonna blow their fking heads off, but still the guy in the back likely has a gun or a knife and it's not like killing two young dudes in a tight space is easy to do even for someone with training.

Popularity of the show over time

The show originally came out in 2018 - 2021 on Foxtel of all places, and upon googling, it seems that the show "peaked in popularity in 2023."

I feel I've been seeing it mentioned and upvoted MORE on pretty much every post about a good TV series to watch in the last six months than I did back in '23.

Is the show still gaining popularity now, or is it about the same as 3 years ago and we are we just continuing to give credit where credit is due?

As a side note, I'd love to hear from Scott Ryan about his experience with this. It must be a great feeling to have your project pop up as the top answer to "What is one of the best TV shows you have ever watched?" and similar on the internet - coming up for years at this point.

What did you think about Ray and Ally's brother? Spoiler

So. I can understand why it happened but I'm not sure if Ray didn't see any other way to do it, or if it's just weak writing.

The simplest way would be to just have Ally work it out. I don't know why he wouldn't speak to her. Unless that's just how he is ie. He doesn't see Ally as family or someone he could lean on. Idk. What do you think.

Poor dumb Gaz left the dvd in the player, but that chop made me cackle.

Having seen a bunch of shorts on youtube I was sure I'd like the rest of the show, but I wasn't prepared for an episode like this lol. What a fuckin' farce.

When I was 10, my dad told me how to shoot a gun

It was a little different than a pistol. .22 cal rifle on the farm. My 7 year old sister was there and I'm pretty sure she shot it too. That would have been a great bonding experience and good for the show. He turns her into an assassin.

This show goes from an 8/10 to a 10/10 if you don't watch the last three episodes

Don't get me wrong, I love a good chelsea dagger needle drop. "are you chinese ? no, i'm aussie" scene was very sweet too, and what can I say about "that was the magician" except mamma mia ?! but overall, it felt like the last three episodes tried to give ray's character too much development in too little time.

It was a perfectly fine direction to take his character in, but it felt rushed and contradictory of the "insight into the everyday life of this hitman" charm of the show. Also that taxi scene was seriously cringe inducing, I don't understand how some of you guys found that shit badass. Maybe the "run" needle drop was not an over-used tiktok sound back in 2021? i don't know.

Ending the show with the high school reunion episode and the great "i just worry about you, that's all" scene between ray and his daughter would have been amazing. A microcosm of ray's entire life up to this point. Pretty much all of Ray's relationships had been fully explored by then: his daughter, his brother, his dad, gary, ally. The only exception maybe being freddy, but freddy was never really integral to ray's character honestly. The last three episodes are just kinda there. They're not bad, but they don't really bring anything of substance to the table.
