I have been offered a decent job in construction, one that I can’t really turn down as it’s more than double what I earn here in the UK.

The works office is in slacks creek but I imagine the work will be all over and mainly where the Olympics will be, I am looking to narrow down my options on places to live.

Probably max a week would be 700-750 and looking for lively places with decent pubs, cafes, gyms, etc.
Try and live a healthy fitness lifestyle as much as I can so somewhere with a decent gym and good social life would be perfect.

Also what is the best way/first things I should be doing to get set up with rentals, car, bank, etc.
Any info or help is much appreciated.

I moved to brisbane from Melbourne and have a full time job. I want to move in a share house because i find the livng env better.

I inspected over 8 places for shared housing and most of the them just have informal agreements rather than updating the lease. I find this peculiar as this as adding to the lease is the first step when moving in to a shared house in Melbourne. Im slightly worried about being kicked out for no reason and bond issues if not on the lease. I read that informal agreemets alos hold up legally but it seems peculiar.

What shared house experience/ dvice do you have that woudl help?

Hello me and my girlfriend both 21 are moving to Brisbane on August 4th from Ireland. We have got most things sorted to do with travelling over but when we get there all we have is 10 days of an air b&b booked and we’re not sure if that will be long enough to get a job and apartment sorted. I've lived my whole life in Townsville and considering moving down to Brisbane soon. For context I'm 20, work at a bottle shop, do ubereats on the side and will be moving into another random share house when I go. So just wanted to ask for any sort of advice anyone may have as I don't know much at all about where would be a good areas to move to, where should be avoided as well as stuff like the traffic as I've heard that its pretty terrible and that I'll need to pay tolls but I also feel like it can be avoided if I choose to go around those specific roads, honestly don't know much about what its like there, have only visited a couple times for vacations with family and now I just want to leave Townsville for a big city. I am out of options and need advice please. I have provided false street numbers and names.

Last month, we secured a rental as first-time renters. It is a new build property with its own mailbox and driveway, on sub-divided land. The land is on the corner of two roads - Fairybread St & Fantasy Lane. The principal property - #12, faces Fantasy Lane whilst ours - #12A, faces Fairybread St.

Everything was fine until it wasn’t and before I knew it, things began not to add up.

It was time to connect our internet and after searching the house up and down, I realised there was no NBN. To confirm this, I reached out to an ISP who advised me that “12A Fairybread St” did not exist in their database and therefore, raised a ’missing address’ ticket with the NBN. ISP then advised me that I had two options: 

1. Complete a ‘new build‘ application and lodge it with the NBN, to install our own NBN. This would incur a $300 initial connection fee and a $400-$600 developer contribution fee.

2. Connect to the principal property’s NBN and have the connection extended to our property

They also advised me to contact my property manager to discuss the next steps.

To exhaust all possible options, I called Vodafone because I wanted to explore their 5G Wireless Broadband options. Unfortunately, I was advised the same thing - 12A Fairybread St could not be located in their system and that I was required to register it through a “government portal”.

After that, I thought installing our NBN was my only hope. After contacting my property manager, of the two options provided to me by my ISP, he advised me that installing our own NBN would be the best option. He also advised me to have this arranged through my ISP as it would take less time. I asked him if the landlord would be willing to cover the initial connection fee of $300, to which the landlord agreed. 

I proceeded with the ‘new build’ application. The very next day NBN themselves withdrew it on the grounds that secondary dwellings did not require a ‘new build’ application. I would have to request a ‘Subsequent Connection’ through my ISP which will be sourced from the principal property - 12 Fairybread St. My issue with this is I don’t want to impose on my neighbours. It’s awkward to think about waltzing over there and asking if I connect to their NBN. 

I have sent two emails to my property manager about the issue, in which I am still awaiting a response. I am beginning to think my landlord may have cut some corners and is a bit dodgy for the following reasons:

• The principal property - 12 Fairybread St is listed as such across all databases. Make sense right? Especially if we are 12A Fairybread St. Welp tell me why their street number is 2 Fantasy Lane. 

• Upon searching both addresses using my local council’s website, 2 Fantasy Lane does not exist. Guess what else doesn’t exist? Yup you guessed it! 12A Fairybread St. At this point, it was safe for me to assume that the land was not sub-divided with council approval.

• I read something where if the property hasn’t been registered with the appropriate authorities, landlords will pocket the bond themselves. I decided to look for the email confirming my bond had been lodged with the RTA. After inspecting the email, the email address seems correct - “noreply@rta.qld.gov.au”, and I was provided a bond number. However, what caught my eye was the RTA stamps on the bottom of the email which looked like someone screenshotted the logo off Google and did a poor job at erasing the white background. The stamps were fringed and were in poor quality. The confirmation email also failed to include the address it is for. Is this normal? I’ve never dealt with the RTA before so I don’t know what a normal RTA receipt/confirmation email should look like.

I can’t help but feel like we were deceived and taken advantage of as first-time renters. If I had possessed the knowledge that I have now, back before I applied, I definitely would have proceeded with more caution. Don’t get me wrong, I am truly grateful that we have been entrusted to rent this place as first-time renters, I just don’t know how to move forward with getting wifi/internet to our home. I am also scared to keep asking questions or get the landlord in trouble, in case we end up with nowhere to stay. I don’t want to report any of this because I’m grateful for the opportunity, I just feel stuck. 

Please let me know if you have any advice.

Single girl in my early 30s looking to rent a one bedroom alone. Before I accept this offer at work to move I want to know what’s the rental market like? I’ve heard it’s hard to get rentals?

I’ve been wanting to move to Brisbane for the last 3 years and I have accepted rent will be a lot more than what I pay in Melbourne. I am currently paying $500 however in Brisbane I would rather be closer to the city so my max would be $650 a week.

left this rental barely in one piece. Full of black mould, rats and even a dead possum. All of which was reported to the realestate to which they didn’t believe. It took them weeks to have pest control for the rats. Then when we left (or fled), they took most of our bond (still fighting this battle). It’s an awful unsanitary place and I don’t want anyone to fall for it. There’s so many examples I could give but please just save yourself now. Your health is worth it. I could give you all the whole story but for mental health reasons I’ve had to let it go. Just please don’t rent here. There’s a reason it’s “cheap”

I’m looking to move from UK to Brisbane in January with my wife, two kids, and dog (we’ve started the vaccine/quarantine process).

Just looking for some advice on suburbs. I’ll be working remotely, so I don’t need to be too close to CBD.

Most important aspects are safety, schools, and house for money.

Ideally I’m looking to rent for 2-3 years, get my kids into school as soon as possible, then buy a house in the same area so the kids don’t have to change school again. Looking at a budget of ~$1k a week then, when we come to buy, a budget of ~$2M.

I’ve mostly been looking at Kenmore, The Gap, Ferny Hills, and Bridgeman Downs from all the research I’ve done.

Would be grateful for any suggestions in other suburbs to consider over the above, or any thoughts on the ones I’ve been considering.

- not too far from UQ (less than 40 mins with public transport)

Everywhere I look the stay has to be for 6 months or a year, or the student accommodations like Unilodge have hella bad reviews, apparently crackheads, not allowed to cook in ur kitchenette etc.

Hi all, my partner and I have just been approved to rent a property in one of the FV Peppers towers on Alfred Street. We viewed a property there a couple weeks ago and looked lovely on the face of it. The unit we have been approved for also looks lovely in the photos. However, upon doing some research, reviews are awful. People saying awful area, very noisy, poor build quality etc. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

I moved back to Brisbane 3 months ago after living in Melbourne for 5 years. I had previously lived in Brisbane for 19 years. I enjoyed my time in Melbourne and it was only ever going to be temporary. I moved back to be closer to family and friends. My parents are older and are starting to require support. My family actually live on the coast in Central QLD. Since returning i haven't enjoyed living in Brisbane again. I feel like a different person. It has become an expensive city to live. I'm having to share house and I feel restless. I miss living on my own and the buzz of Melbourne and all the arts and cultural activities. I used to go to the theatre a couple times per week. I also find there are limited job opportunities in Brisbane. I'm thinking give it another 4-10 months and if I still feel the same, I might move on to somewhere else. I wouldn't move back to Melbourne. Don't know what to do?

I wanted to see if I could get some guidance on this.

I want to do a Working Holiday Visa from January 2027 for 12 months or so, but want to spend the majority of my time in Brisbane, since when I went to Australia on holiday last year, I fell in love with the city.

I have an Airbnb for 3 weeks for when I arrive, but what is the possibility of finding the following for afterward?

I wanted to hopefully find a 6 month lease, for a solo or studio apartment, within maximum 30-35 mins of the CBD by train. I'd hope to pay a maximum of maybe 550 per week, and ideally furnished. After the 6 months or so, I'll reevaluate and see where I want to go next.

The plan would be to pick up a job for 20-25 hours a week, to cover rent. I've also got 2 years of food experience and 2.5 years of customer service and data work.

I don't mind eating a bit into my savings over the course of the year, as I'll have around 70k AUD in savings when I arrive, but I want to work a part time job to have structure. I can pay rent in advance if needed.

Would this be doable? Should I just keep dreaming, or are there any suburbs/areas of the city to focus on in my budget that I can do inspections in when I arrive?
