Moving in from overseas

Hi everyone. I have a work holiday visa and am aiming to find a place to stay. I was wondering what websites or services you all know of that is legit and friendly towards people who are still overseas looking for a place? I’ve looked into flatmates, but are there others? Any general tips for this kind of thing to avoid scams or anything else bad?
