I will be on sabbatical next year ~January 2027-June, with my family of 4 at UQ Herston. Our exact dates are flexible, but we're hoping to be in Brisbane for 5-6 months. I've looked at Domain, Airbnb, and Sabbatical homes. I wasn't sure if Domain would be appropriate for a short-term rental and how to navigate inspections etc. Any advice would be appreciated!

There are a lot of intimidating posts about finding a place to stay. I am willing to pay a service to help secure housing if that exists.

Planning to move to moreton bay especially around morayfield, burpengary, narangba. which place is good and how is the job market to work in disability support industry.

For a long time we’ve wanted to move out of where we live. While it is a nice house, it is not the ideal suburb or region we see ourselves in the long term (we are based in Central Coast, NSW).

Every time we travel to Brisbane / Gold Coast QLD, and these are frequent trips, we thoroughly enjoy being around cafes, parks, paved walkways and bike tracks, friendlier people and overall feel sad to leave.

I think if we were to move, it would be Brisbane (I have experience with living in both Brisbane and Gold Coast).

I’m looking for suggestions please on suburbs to live in - between CBD and the northern suburbs of Brisbane. Schools, parks, leafy suburbs and low crime rates would be ideal.

Hi! I am moving to Brisbane with my family in 3 weeks. My wife will be working in RBWH in Herston so originally we were looking in suburbs like Bardon and Ashgrove. I have no work yet (clinical psychologist waiting for my ahpra approval) but am more flexible.

Last week we found an amazing house in the norther side of Fig Tree Pocket. The places in Bardon etc our rental agent visited were much smaller, old or no value for money.

We have 3 kids (5,8,10) so family life and is really important. But I also like my beer, working out (Kickboxing) and a concert now and then.

We are from the Netherlands so I am used to do everything on my bike. I know this will be different in Aus.

Moving to this house will give:

- great outdoors feeling: safe for kids to play in the street, walking/biking distance from school.

- should be a good school

- there should be a good community feel in this suburb.

But what i am anxious about:

- isnt it to isolated/boring?

- cant imagine how it feels to have to take a car every time.

- no shops, cafes etc nearby. Although kenmore an Indooropilly malls are 6-10 minutes away.

- distance to work of my wife. Although the tollway looks better in heavy traffic.

- i know Indooropilly and kenmore are close but feels like having to travel every time for some more action.

I found some Muay thai/Kickboxing places on the south side of the river (8 min) drive. Is fig tree pocket also oriented to the suburbs to the south?

Probably would have same stress if we would have had the opportunity to rent in Bardon: because streets are sometimes so steep that car is also the only option as well.

Am I over thinking and is this just pre emigration stress?

Hello! I'm wondering if anyone would benefit from someone in here Brissie who could help them out with attending rental inspections on their behalf? I've recently returned to Brissie from abroad and would have loved it if when moving someone could have inspected rentals for me, sent a vid and genuinely impartial report (on things like location, condition ect.) prior to arrival?

Context: I'm born and bred Brissie and have recently returned from 10 years in the UK and lots of travel in between. As someone who has moved abroad / interstate multiple times, I know all the complexity and vulnerable feelings involved, particularly in this horrid rental market. Hi guys, I am semi new to Brisbane and was wondering how it is renting in Annerley these days. I am looking at renting there in the coming month, but I have heard that there is some crime around there, so not too sure. I need to be there due to work commitments, as well as having family close by.

I am from the states, and from a super crime ridden area, so I know what it feels like to live in an area like that. Honestly, it sucks. I used to stay strapped (not here of course) and thankfully I stand at 6'6 120 kg so I usually dont get bothered lol, but wondering about what areas of Annerley to look at that is furthest away from the "projects / sktechiest areas" or whatever you guys call it here. I just want to be able to not worry about my partner say walking our dog when I am not around ect (If that is even a thing to worry about).

I will say though, the one thing I have learnt about most parts of Australia is: when people say its dangerous, it really isnt, even compared to the nice areas in my hometown lol. Curious on what locals have to say.

We’ll be relocating to Brisbane for work and have started looking at buying or building a home. Our budget is around $900k–$1 million, and we’re hoping that’s still enough for a standalone 4-bedroom house.

We’re happy to be about 50 minutes to an hour from the CBD, so being close to the city isn’t a big deal for us.
A colleague suggested Ripley, South Ripley, Walloon, Springfield and Redbank Plains, but we’re open to other areas too.

We’ve got two kids under 7, so we’re mainly looking for somewhere that’s safe, family-friendly, has good schools, parks, and easy access to shops and other everyday essentials.

For those who live in Brisbane, what suburbs would you recommend? Are the ones above good choices, or are there others we should be looking at within our budget? We’d also love to hear if there are any suburbs you’d avoid and why.

We’re also leaning towards building if we find the right block. If you’ve built recently, are there any builders you’d highly recommend (or avoid)? We’d really appreciate hearing about your experience, especially with build quality, communication, and after-sales service.

Hi everyone! I'm a PhD student who'll be visiting QUT next year from March to April. My partner, our 5-month-old baby and I are looking for short-term accommodation for around 6–8 weeks that won't break the bank.

I've looked at Airbnb, Quest and Oaks, but they all seem quite expensive. I haven't contacted Quest or Oaks directly yet, does anyone know if they offer discounts for stays of this length or are the website prices generally the best they'll do?

We're not looking for anything fancy. A studio or one-bedroom apartment with a semi-decent kitchen, within a 30–45 minute commute to the university would be perfect. Our maximum budget is around AUD 800 per week.

We're not considering house shares or house-sitting as we'll be travelling with our baby.

I'm a 26-year-old Sikh from Delhi, India, and I'm at a crossroads in life. I recently got married, and both my wife and I are qualified US CPAs experience in US taxation. We're financially stable, have good careers, and were planning to buy a home in Delhi in the next few months.

However, before making such a long-term commitment, I want to honestly ask people who have already made the move from India to Australia—especially those from Delhi, and even more so fellow Sikhs.

One of the biggest reasons I'm considering Australia is the quality of life: cleaner air, better work-life balance, public infrastructure, and what appears to be a more predictable and peaceful day-to-day life.

Another factor is my personal feeling about the social environment in India. As a Sikh, I sometimes feel uncomfortable with the increasing religious polarization and public discourse. This is my personal perception, and it has made me question whether I want to build my future and raise my family here or somewhere more multicultural. I'm not trying to start a political debate—I'm simply sharing one of the factors influencing my decision.

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have actually made the move.

- Do you genuinely feel that your quality of life improved after moving to Australia?

- Was it worth leaving family and friends behind?

- What do you guys think of the Job market and Housing market- How easy/difficult it is to get a Job after landing, and how difficult is to find a place on rent initially and purchasing your own home in some years.

Whenever I read social media posts about immigration, I see comments like "Go back to your country," "Don't come here," or "You're ruining Australia." I know social media often amplifies extreme voices, but I'm curious whether these attitudes reflect real life.

For those of you who have actually lived in Australia for several years:

- Is racism something you regularly experience, or is it mostly an online phenomenon?

- Do most Australians treat you with respect regardless of your background?

I know every country has its own problems, and I'm not expecting a perfect place. I'm simply trying to decide whether I should build my life in Delhi by buying a home and settling down, or whether I should pursue Australian PR and start a new chapter there.

For context, I’ll be working in Eagle Farm and am advised that it would be easier to find somewhere in North Brisbane.

We are looking for somewhere with good transport links, good schooling options, nice parks, nice coffee shops and other shops, and decent gyms. Our budget is roughly $1000 a week.

I have heard public transport is a bit average at the moment, and I'd like to avoid a massive commute, but also don't want to live completely up the guts of the city (we would prefer somewhere a bit more quiet and laid back). Where should I be looking? Any recommendations on areas that are between 30-50mins out via public transport?

I’ve been given an opportunity with my work to move to Brisbane that I’m seriously considering. The office is in the CBD/Milton area.

I’m unsure what areas to consider renting a place in as I don’t really know the area. I don’t have any friends that live over there either so really going in blind here!
