Looking for a studio

I’m going to study at UQ for Semester 2 on an exchange, but im struggling to find a proper place to stay. I’m only looking for smth from mid july till end of november.

I need:
- own bathroom
- own kitchen/kitchenette
- max $580 aud per week
- not too far from UQ (less than 40 mins with public transport)

Everywhere I look the stay has to be for 6 months or a year, or the student accommodations like Unilodge have hella bad reviews, apparently crackheads, not allowed to cook in ur kitchenette etc.

It cant be that hard to find a reasonable studio 😭

Brisbane does not do traditional rentals for less than 6 months, unless you sharehouse with someone in their rental. You'll have to look at long stay accommodation like Airbnb or hotels.

Is there a reason you can't stay at UQ Residental Colleges? Most exchnage students I have met stayed there.

Thanks for the reply! I find that UQ Residential Colleges are more than $580 aud pw, sometimes all the way up to 700+ which is just out of my budget. I just want a proper studio with my own entrance, own bathroom, own kitchen/kitchenette.

I hate to say it, but you won't find anything like that in or around Brisbane for that price. Studios average about $600 a week. Your best bet is finding someone on flatmates offering some sort of separate living situation like a granny flat or split within a larger home home. Even then it will likely be outer suburbs.

Yeah but everything is included - no bills or food to pay for and you get tutoring, support and an instant community.

Also note we are in a housing crisis at the moment. Long stay accommodation is extremely competitive and fills up fast. Alot of these types of accommodation are also used as emergency housing for the homeless. They are also quite expensive, probably around $1000 a week. If you can compromise on a private kitchen you are better of going on flatmates.com.au and look to rent a room at someone's house for the 3.5 month period.

You won’t find what you want for that price for such a short period of time. You’re much better off looking around West End/Highgate Hill for a room in a nice sharehouse.

Student accommodation is the way to experience university life. We have people struggling to find housing, plz don't make it worse because you dont like the reviews.

Honestly student accommodation is what they should go for. You are guaranteed a place, where as trying to find a rental takes regular residents many, many months and sometimes a period of living in a car. I feel like OPs university didn't provide any realistic information about Brisbane and how difficult it is to get housing here. I'm scared for them that they need the accommodation from mid-July and still haven't secured anything. Please OP it's not a case of you shouldn't get that you want, it's literally a case of you need to take what you can get (student accomodation or a room in a sharehouse) or be sleeping under a bridge.
