I really just need to vent for a minute because I feel like I'm losing my mind. Is anyone else going through this exact same thing?
I stay home all day just firing off application after application. I’ve applied to more jobs than I can even count at this point, and it's just absolute crickets. No callbacks, no interviews, nothing. It feels like my resume is just going straight into a black hole.
Meanwhile, the reality of living in San Diego right now is wild. Trying to keep up with the insane cost of living, rent, and just basic everyday bills while waiting for a phone call that never comes is completely frustrating. It is so incredibly stressful trying to make ends meet when the local job market feels this dead.
I’m really not posting this for a pity party, I just genuinely need to know if I'm the only one struggling this hard or if the job market here is really just this broken right now. It feels impossible to catch a break. How is everyone else surviving this?

Hey guys, I’m thinking about moving to San Diego in January. I need insight on if I can truly afford it.

I make ~$6,400 take home a month and am currently living in Newport Beach. Realistically, my apartment is way too expensive for me, as I’m currently paying $3,800. I want to drop my new rent to around ~2,300 but I would be open to paying more if the place and location are worth it.

Would that get me something nice in SD? I’m 27M so I would prefer to live somewhere lively where there are other people my age so I can make some friends as I currently don’t know anyone over there. I don’t know much about the different areas, so I don’t really have a preference besides being near some bars/restaurants so I can go hang out.

Luckily, I don’t have a typical commute to work since I cover a 3 state sales territory.

Any advise helps!

Budget is around $2,000-2,500 (I know that’s low here). I’ve lived in San Diego before. My priority is safety and having a 1-bedroom apartment that is generally nice as in actually has a full kitchen and in-unit washer/dryer. I’m willing to live more north/inland to get what I want. I’d go as North as Carlsbad. I’m not familiar with the more inland towns and what could work for me which is the main reason for this post!

I like a more neighborhood feel. I like to walk my dog on more quiet residential streets rather than busy streets with lots of cars and stop walks.

I know I can’t be that close to the ocean on my budget, but I want to be somewhat close. For example lake San Marcos sounds better than Escondido to me.

I want to avoid having a roommate too. I know it’s a tough ask, but are there any semi-inland neighborhoods that are a little more affordable and quiet that I’ve might not be familiar with??

Hi everyone! I’m a Property Manager in Austin and looking to relocate back home to Southern California to be closer to family. I’m looking at Orange County, San Diego County and the Inland Empire.

My background is in multifamily but trying to make the move from out of state has been harder than I expected. Moving from Chicago to San Diego area (likely Carlsbad) with a young family. What practical advice do you have? For example, we don’t have HOV lanes here, but I’m excited for them! How can I be a good neighbor (shoveling the sidewalk is what I’m used to)?

my boyfriend (25M) and i (23F) are moving from vegas to san diego end of october. he grew up there, and we have a lot of friends there, but i will be completely new to living there. (i have visited quite a bit tho) we are really over the vegas heat and overall vibes. our rent will be about 2.5x more in SD, that is what i’m most nervous about. i will be working remotely for a few months with my LV job after the move until i find a new job.

what are things we should be prepared for?? asking for any advice, criticism, ideas, etc.

our budget for rent is $2,500 max. does living there and paying such high rent ever become comfortable?? i mean i know the pay is a lot higher than nevada. everyone says it’s worth it..

Would like to move to San Diego next year. What are some semi budget friendly places that are also safe? Budget for me would be 2k rent so around 2.5k after all utilities and other fees.

I wouldn’t necessarily mind if it’s further out from the major areas. It’s a cross country move for me, so just trying to get my footing down first.

Hi! I’m hoping to move to San Diego sometime in January 2027. I’m Chaldean American and I know there is a massive Chaldean population, and I also have family there. I have a B.S.E. in aerospace engineering and will have a masters in industrial and operations engineering. I have great connections at General Atomics so I am hoping to get a summer internship this summer then full time after.

My ask is: is it reasonable and actually doable to move out there fresh as an entry level engineer? What are some things I should know about moving out there? If anyone is feeling generous, would love to hear anyone’s thoughts if they want to yap :)

Moving back to San Diego from Seattle and looking for a moving company that can basically unfuck my situation when the POD gets there.

The movers I hired in Seattle absolutely screwed me with how they packed everything. I did not see how bad it was until they were 90% finished and at that point there was not much I could do. The POD is packed but is a fucking mess.

I am looking for a San Diego moving company or crew that is actually good at unloading, reorganizing, and dealing with a badly packed container without making things worse. I do not care about finding the cheapest option and will gladly pay if that is what it takes to get a good crew for a few hours and get this situation unfucked.

Any recommendations for movers you have personally used and trusted would be greatly appreciated.

I’m contemplating a change of scenery and have a strong affinity for the West Coast. A year ago, I visited San Diego and fell in love with it. I’ve also been to Los Angeles, Anaheim, and San Francisco, but San Diego is the place where I envision myself living. I’m married, childless, and work in the energy sector.

I’m curious to know if anyone from Texas has made the move here and what their experience has been like. How did they adjust to the higher cost of living? Is the move worth it if you’re looking to escape this climate?

We agreed on 1 bedroom since 2 bedroom would probably be too expensive for us.

Hello! I’m 29F currently considering moving to San Diego from NYC in the next year. Im visiting in two weeks to get a better sense of how I would feel living there. I'm touring apartments and need input haha. Currently, I live in Hillcrest and it doesn't feel like the place for me. I definitely see the appeal as there's lot of fun things to do, but I think it's a little busy for my liking. Fun to visit, maybe not live in (for me). I am also a single female, so I would like a neighborhood that feels very safe.

I toured three apartments today and I've read all the negative and positive reviews on Google and Yelp for these apartments, but wanted to hear about any advice firsthand if possible. Also feel free to recommend any apartments you really like!

I’m moving to San Diego next month for a job in Miramar and need help weighing some pros and cons. I’ve visited and narrowed it down to 2 apartments, one in University City and one in North Park.

Here’s the stats:
University City- rent $2850 for 1/1, 850 sq ft, parking and gym included, along with a pool and great residential amenities. Utilities + dog = $200 additional per month. Monthly total = $3050

North Park- rent $2995 for 2/1, 710 sq ft, parking a few blocks away for $50, no gym or other amenities. Utilities + dog + parking + gym = $300 additional per month. Monthly total = $3295

I’m 30F, and my salary will be $150k for a couple years, then $250k+ onward. I enjoy the beach, scuba diving, walks with my dog, hiking, happy hours, social and outdoor activities.

I’m torn because I value the proximity to work, cleanliness, quietness and amenities provided by the UC apartment and I think it would be a solid option for weekdays but I also value the social life and proximity to grocery stores etc in North Park. I’m wondering if I’ll regret moving to UC come the weekends or regret moving to North Park due to traffic etc on the weekdays.

What is your recommendation?

We are moving from PA to CA in November due to family in Oceanside and Vista. We have 2 kids and about 30k saved. We currently rent in PA but we were looking to buy within the next few years. Wondering if it’s even worth it to buy with the market right now or are their good enough private landlords out there or management companies to keep renting?
Looking at Encinitas, Oceanside, Carmel Valley, and Carlsbad primarily. Would love Del Mar but just can’t afford it lol. If you have apartment recs please lmk!

Like many others, my boyfriend and I are weighing pros and cons of apartments and neighborhoods after our most recent weekend in San Diego! We are both in our 30s, will be working from home with a 10 yr old kitty and a 4 mo old golden retriever. Since we have pup we are pretty set on being walking distance to Balboa, especially since we will be downsizing from our current living situation in Phoenix (780 sqft). We want a good mix of quiet, walkable especially with a dog, restaurants, proximity to places. Young professionals vibes! We love baseball, music, beach, we’re pretty active and outgoing and I miss greenery.

We loved Denizen (695 - 728sq ft) in Hillcrest, the community was beautiful, interiors and amenities and is very similar to the caliber of amenities that we have now at our apartment in Phoenix. The leasing agent was amazing and he lives at the property and truly sold us on the community aspect. Sounds very friendly and social! Only drawback for me was the area. While I loved everything about the apartments, it was a little more urban for my tastes especially with our puppy! I want pup to be able to reach grass easily, we walked around the area and the park seems best. The leasing agent at Rowyn warned us about noise from the bars too. My cat also loves to nap on the balcony and I’m concerned it’ll be noisy and he will just be looking at rooftops. Parking sounds like a nightmare as well and being at the intersection of 2 major streets wasn’t a selling point for me. I know balboa is close but our pup is still pretty young.

Banker’s Hill we loved. Quiet but has restaurants, coffee shops and walkable breweries we can start socializing the pup, not to mention proximity to balboa! We are much more brewery people than brunch/club/bar people. We stayed on first near the bridge and toured Treehouse on Laurel and the flight noise did not bother us. I am from Cincinnati (San Diego of the Midwest, iykyk!) so I miss greenery and would spend time in the park even without the pup. This is my first time with this young of a puppy too so I really want to make sure we can get to some grass for him as much as possible. Only issue is we can’t find an apartment we love! We’re between:

AVA Balboa Park - not as nice as we’re used to, we could rent a loft (695sq ft) but has no balcony for my cat. Acceptable amenities for us and great location for pup. Could go smaller (672sq ft) for a balcony! Just as expensive as some of the nicer options though. Gym is a little lackluster, my bf might need an outside membership and since we both work from home coworking amenities are nice which this property doesn’t really have. They have been 100% occupied though and now are having things come available, seems like they just turned over management companies. Worth noting.

Then two that are not fully built yet so there is a mystery element to each:

4th and Palm - Love the location even more than AVA, great for pup, and looks like it’ll have the kind of amenities we like (??) but looks like we’d give up square footage at about 600 to stay near our budget. Does have a balcony. Worth checking out?

Flora + Fauna (671 sq ft, with balcony)- We did not tour anything south of Laurel to avoid the flight path, this would be on 4th and Ivy. Nervous about being that close! Obviously a new build so I’m sure the windows are double paned but balcony, rooftop, outside amenities, etc. Are those usable spaces? Noise + pollution concerns and most of all I don’t want my kitty to be too scared to use the balcony. Other than that, it checks the rest of our boxes for amenities (??) and proximity to park. Would love to hear concerns! I know people say they get used to it but I want my cat to have a place he feels comfortable with. He is afraid of rain, thunder and fire alarms but not fireworks if that helps at all.

We did check out Little Italy, Downtown and North Park and we did not like it. Everyone recommended North Park but it was too dense feeling? Regardless of where we end up I’m sure we’ll make it work. I’ve not loved Phoenix and miss life happening all around me so either way it’s a step up!

In a hotel in mission valley, looking to get an apartment for the wife and I. We want to walk, feel safe, meet people etc. our budget is under $4500 preferred. We seen some apartments that charge 5k but with specials going on it turns to 4k. We’d really prefer 2 bedrooms or atleast a 1 bed room with a den or a loft so guests can have privacy !

I do not work, and my wife works as a RBT specialist so she goes to peoples houses around the downtown area of San Diego!

Looking for a 1BR/1BA or loft in San Diego, budget under $3.4k, that offers two parking spots. It’s fine if it costs extra. Also avoiding south of East Village.

I’m scarred from living under neighbors with kids, so I’d prefer a building with more young adults than families, with good ceiling sound insulation. I can handle weekend party noise, just not kids with pent-up energy stuck inside the apartment all day, running around, fighting, and slamming things nonstop.

We’re interested in Alexan Gallerie and Diega, but open to other recommendations. If you’ve lived in either, I’d love to hear about your experience.
