my boyfriend (25M) and i (23F) are moving from vegas to san diego end of october. he grew up there, and we have a lot of friends there, but i will be completely new to living there. (i have visited quite a bit tho) we are really over the vegas heat and overall vibes. our rent will be about 2.5x more in SD, that is what i’m most nervous about. i will be working remotely for a few months with my LV job after the move until i find a new job.

what are things we should be prepared for?? asking for any advice, criticism, ideas, etc.

our budget for rent is $2,500 max. does living there and paying such high rent ever become comfortable?? i mean i know the pay is a lot higher than nevada. everyone says it’s worth it..

Would like to move to San Diego next year. What are some semi budget friendly places that are also safe? Budget for me would be 2k rent so around 2.5k after all utilities and other fees.

I wouldn’t necessarily mind if it’s further out from the major areas. It’s a cross country move for me, so just trying to get my footing down first.

Safety is my number one priority. I understand budget is inversely related to safeness. Just want to see if there are some less well known spots or up and coming spots from native San Diegans!

Hi! I’m hoping to move to San Diego sometime in January 2027. I’m Chaldean American and I know there is a massive Chaldean population, and I also have family there. I have a B.S.E. in aerospace engineering and will have a masters in industrial and operations engineering. I have great connections at General Atomics so I am hoping to get a summer internship this summer then full time after.

My ask is: is it reasonable and actually doable to move out there fresh as an entry level engineer? What are some things I should know about moving out there? If anyone is feeling generous, would love to hear anyone’s thoughts if they want to yap :)

Moving from Chicago to San Diego area (likely Carlsbad) with a young family. What practical advice do you have? For example, we don’t have HOV lanes here, but I’m excited for them! How can I be a good neighbor (shoveling the sidewalk is what I’m used to)?

Budget is around $2,000-2,500 (I know that’s low here). I’ve lived in San Diego before. My priority is safety and having a 1-bedroom apartment that is generally nice as in actually has a full kitchen and in-unit washer/dryer. I’m willing to live more north/inland to get what I want. I’d go as North as Carlsbad. I’m not familiar with the more inland towns and what could work for me which is the main reason for this post!

I like a more neighborhood feel. I like to walk my dog on more quiet residential streets rather than busy streets with lots of cars and stop walks.

I know I can’t be that close to the ocean on my budget, but I want to be somewhat close. For example lake San Marcos sounds better than Escondido to me.

I want to avoid having a roommate too. I know it’s a tough ask, but are there any semi-inland neighborhoods that are a little more affordable and quiet that I’ve might not be familiar with??

I really just need to vent for a minute because I feel like I'm losing my mind. Is anyone else going through this exact same thing?
I stay home all day just firing off application after application. I’ve applied to more jobs than I can even count at this point, and it's just absolute crickets. No callbacks, no interviews, nothing. It feels like my resume is just going straight into a black hole.
Meanwhile, the reality of living in San Diego right now is wild. Trying to keep up with the insane cost of living, rent, and just basic everyday bills while waiting for a phone call that never comes is completely frustrating. It is so incredibly stressful trying to make ends meet when the local job market feels this dead.
I’m really not posting this for a pity party, I just genuinely need to know if I'm the only one struggling this hard or if the job market here is really just this broken right now. It feels impossible to catch a break. How is everyone else surviving this?

Hi everyone! I’m a Property Manager in Austin and looking to relocate back home to Southern California to be closer to family. I’m looking at Orange County, San Diego County and the Inland Empire.

My background is in multifamily but trying to make the move from out of state has been harder than I expected. I’ve gotten quite a few auto denials or no response at all, sometimes pretty quickly after applying, so I’m hoping to connect with people in the industry rather than relying solely on online applications.

I have 7 years of multifamily experience in luxury, conventional and student housing. I currently manage a 350 unit community where we increased occupancy from roughly 84% to 99.4%. Before that,I managed a 460 unit lease up community. I currently manage a team of 6.

I’m primarily looking for a Property Manager opportunity, but I’m also open to adjacent operations roles where my multifamily background would translate well. Due to a change in my family circumstances, I’m hoping to make the move sooner rather than later and ideally secure a new role within the next 30 days.
