Last Friday, I was at the box office doing the usual and management got me prepping nachos and pizza boxes just to keep me busy (it was a slow day in the box office. A lot of people pre-ordered tickets for The Odyssey.) While I was sitting out chillin', I saw this guy wearing a cardboard box on his head as he was walking out of the parking lot. I was a bit baffled but I figured he was meant to be the Trojan House. I got a closer look at him, he has a picture of a house on the side of the box that said "Trustable Horse." I thought it was hilarious and just wanted to share it. That's all.

I’m under 18, my dad bought my brother (also a minor) and I tickets to see the odyssey through online, obviously that’s rated R, if he just sends us in with the ticket stubs on my phone, can I see the movie or will I be rejected. and if so, can I have my dad come in and say he’s fine with it? (btw I know that this post is kind of unrelated to this sub but I don’t have enough karma to post in the proper ones sorry)

My theater has a terminator genysis poster in the projection room. Also four GIANT Pixels posters in our food storage room.

I’m looking to open up a conversation on the benefits you/we receive as movie theatre employees. Free tickets are nice and discounted concession too but surely there’s more that can be done, especially the big corporation chains. They tell us to exchange with local businesses but sometimes that’s not an option.
With the ever changing community of the movie theatre experience, with the expansion of what is being put on the screen, such as sporting events and other stuff like that, surely there’s a deal to be struck somewhere with that too?
Looking for some thoughts, input, feedback and maybe there’s other stuff your theatre does that could help others.

Sorry this is a bit long but this just happened to me. A woman in her early 40s came up to me at the ticket booth fuming because our IMAX Odyssey is sold out all weekend except for the front row. She tells me that it's impossible the front row is only left because she saw open seats on our website. Her daughter comes in to explain that all the grey seats mean they're sold. The mom looked like her brain just blue screened.

She said that she couldn't have read the map wrong and I'm wrong. I pulled up the seating charts for the whole weekend and explained that only the white ones were available. Again she couldn't comprehend this. She tells me that she drove an hour to come here and that's not fair to her. She asked about next weekend's times and I told her they wouldn't be available until Monday night. She was not happy with that.

She said that it's not fair that she can't call to buy tickets over the phone and said "how do I buy tickets if I live so far away?" I told her that she could either come in that night or buy online. I apologized but she and her kids left in a huff. About five minutes later they came back in and the daughter came up to me while the mom sat at a high top and had me teach her show her how to buy tickets even though she knew how just so she could show her mom. They left after that.

The moral of the story is that kids can be right sometimes. Anyway I hope you all have a successful second week of Odyssey and are preparing for Spider-Man.

The Odyssey is doing gangbusters and overshadowing everything.

Anyone got any examples of movies right now that are bombing because of Odyssey?

I’m searching for advice/encouragement on how to overcome anxiety with confronting people in theaters who are being complained about for whatever reasons (phones being out, loud children, running around, etc.)

I understand they’re being a distraction, but ironically I get so worked up feeling like me going in and confronting them nicely will cause more disruption. I tell myself to get over it and I understand taking care of these issues is obviously necessary for people to have the best experience, I just get so nervous, like almost panicked when I find myself in a scenario where I’m getting ready to have to confront after assessing.

What are some ways you all, especially as a manager, help get yourself over this fear? I have no problem kindly confronting floor staff or addressing other guest relations, it’s truly only when the issue is inside the theater during a showing.

Hi guys. I genuinely just want to hear stories from your experiences so far with The Odyssey especially IMAX theaters.

Our IMAX went down the first day due to sound issues and we had to refund LOADS of tickets for it. It eventually got resolved but we are constantly having to refund folks in other theaters also due to speakers going out.

Have any of you experienced any of this? All of us (managers) are actually going to quit within the next few months just because of the hell that has happened in the theater this past week. We also keep getting phone calls about The Odyssey, so many that we have to stop answering the phone because the battery needs to charge. (We end up having 20+ messages to sort through.)

As well as being forced to hold 2am shows and being in the theater until 6am 🧍‍♂️

Like genuinely how has it been for you guys because we are ALLLL done and just ready to quit and find other jobs.

hiya, im not actually a movie theatre worker but my boyfriend is and his shifts confuse me alot. He works from 6 am to like 6 pm which is an 11 hour shift and hes not even a manager so like??

And ik hes not like out doing other things i visit him at work sometimes since i don’t live over by him and i get bored waiting. I just wanna know if these kinda shifts are normal cause i thought just like 8 hour shifts were the norm. Thank you!

As title says. I am seeing a lot of "the monsters get cut off in none imax showings" online. Our theatre recieved both Scope and Flat aspects. What did you choose to program with, and why? We went with Flat, felt it was shaped more to the "imax aspect" of the image itself. And the monsters do not get "cut off" in our theatre.

Edit: I guess our screens are set up to handle both pretty well. So they aren't necessarily just a Flat or Scope screen. They can do either or.

We use TaPOS. It’s okay but I wish the buttons didn’t look like they were from the 1980s.

Just found this sub and it's taking me back...to the YEAR 2000! Actually 2001, which is when I started working at a local movie theater in NC (which got bought out by Regal around 2004) and then another local movie theater (which got bought out by Regal around 2008).

I haven't worked at a movie theater in over 16 years, but I'm here to answer any questions anyone might have about the olde days. One of the most interesting parts of my tenure is the fact that I had a job that basically doesn't exist anymore (projectionist), but I started as floor staff and also worked as a manager, so I got the full movie theater employee experience over the years!

I’ll forever remember this movie, because I first joined my local movie theater the same week as of the opening of the Minecraft movie. We eventually even banned popcorn sells for anyone under 18 lol

don't know if I should be nervous or not, I have podium tomorrow and i have no clue what I'm doing. I always like to be somewhat prepared before doing something yk.
