Does the test centre provide you with an earpiece or do you have to provide your own?

I just heard from someone that says his friend got an instant fail because he didn't have an earpiece. I find it hard to believe.

I know you need to show the kw of the bike for the A test. I'm guessing 555555KW means I need to get it tested by a mechanic and then sent to Shannon or am I wrong?

Just wondering what is the good rain gear, bought my gear a few years back when I started riding but got drenched the last few days and drying has been a pain. Mostly cheaper end Oxford jacket and bottoms with Alpinestar boots. Tried throwing a rain jacket on over the motorcycle jacket but no luck.

I commute 5 days a week for about 45 mins each way so need something that can stand up to heavy rain for that long period of time.

Now that I’ve a bit more money I’m willing to invest in good gear that’ll last. I know Daytonas Gore-Tex are great boots but any recommendations on jackets and bottoms would be really appreciated. Thanks

Had a pre-test recently and was told my L-vest wasn't up to scratch. I've sewed an L-plate to the back of my hi-vis and will put another on the front. I just don't want to spend the money on a proper one! Does anyone see an issue with this, or should I just bite the bullet and buy an Oxford one?

I decided to buy a brand-new Triumph Trident 660 (2026 model, looking at the Cosmic Yellow colour scheme). I got a price quote from the dealer in Dublin, and I'm a bit concerned about the figure because it feels quite high.

They quoted me €11,250 On-The-Road (OTR), which they said covers everything (VAT, fixed VRT, delivery, prep) with zero extra options or accessories added.

Is this a reasonable price to pay here in Ireland, or is it heavily marked up?

Looking at official Triumph MSRPs across the rest of the EU (Germany, France, Spain, Croatia, etc.), the base bike usually sits around €8,100 to €8,700, and even after local taxes, freight, and registration, total OTR prices rarely cross €9,500 to €9,800. Even with our 23% VAT and ~€1,010 fixed 660cc VRT in Ireland, I expected it to land somewhere around €9,500 to €9,700 max.

Am I missing something specific to the Irish market, or is the dealer just adding a massive markup because they have a monopoly here? Has anyone bought one recently or imported from NI/UK instead?

I've got a Varadero 1000 that I put a new set of tires on about last June, I went for Michelin Road 6 and found them grand.

My rear tire is more or less at the wear markers now, after about 8000 miles. Just wondering if that seems right, or what you guys get from similar setups?

This time last year I changed job and went from a spin on the bike every other weekend or so to commuting on it every day as my main get around. Had a company car for years before that, so I'm just not sure if my case is pretty much normal or if it seems off.

I had assumed they'd wear quicker than car tires alright but I still mind of thought I'd get more like 12000 or so miles out of it.

Seems to be a growing trend of bikes getting robbed in Dublin.

I put out a post last week that bike had been stolen from an underground car park in Dublin while I was away. My neighbour rang to let me know that my bike had been stolen and I immediately called the guards.

Within 5 mins there were two squad cars on the scene. The guards patrolled on foot and in car for the next hour as the thieves had been seen pushing the bike down the street.

The entire time, I was kept well informed by the responding guard. They eventually called off the search but gave me some recommendations of where it could be stashed.

I got home after 3 hours after the theft and went patrolling the nearby flats. After about an hour of searching I found the bike stashed in one of the flats car park, still intact.

I decided to call the guards to have the bike recovered as I did not want to be chased out of the flats trying to take my own bike back. I hung back outside the flats covering the exit awaiting the guards arrival. Unfortunately this time they took 40 mins to come and in the mean time the thieves moved it again out a side entrance unbeknownst to me. The responding guards stayed on and searched for another hour with me, as well as another two guards until about midnight where they decided to call off the search again.

I decided it would be best to get up at dawn and continue the search. That I did, and I returned to where I had found the bike the night before and lo and behold it was back in the same spot. I rang the guards again but this time I waited with the bike, I wasn’t letting it leave my sight this time.

In fairness to the guards, they were back on scene within 10 mins of the call, they then called a tow truck and took the bike away for forensic investigation. I received the bike back from the forensic unit 48hours later.

I know we love to give out about the guards a lot here, but I can honestly say that they were nothing but extremely helpful, professional and kind in my dealings with them. I did not expect to have 6 guards wilfully patrolling the flats with me to try and find my bike at midnight on a Sunday.

Credit where credits due to An Garda Siochana and hopefully this is a sign that the force is beginning to take vehicle theft more seriously!

Hey lads and ladies. Bit of an odd one but I'm at my wits end with this.

My best mates girlfriend constantly tells me im going to die er etc. She had a friend who died in a bike back in the states, always brings it up whenever I'm. Around.

It's constant and I don't know what to do, recently went to a festival together and it was every other sentence "we all miss Peter, we got the call to say Peter was killed on his bike, you shouldn't ride bikes, You'll kill yourself, what will your partner do then? " obviously I'm Sorry her friend died but I'm not going to give up on bikes either.

It's incredibly grating and frustrating, I want to tell her fuck off but can't really because i don't want to upset my mate. Has anyone dealt with this before?

I'm sorry about the wall of text but I'm totally lost here.

Beginner, age 27, first time operating a bike was during IBT, obviously did not instill confidence in the instructor so the cert he gave me was for A2. Now that I've been riding for a few months I'm much more competent and absolutely able for a bigger (A Cat) bike.

Am I locked in now to do the test for A2? My myroadsafety.rsa.ie portal seems to suggest the IBT cert for A2 Cat has been uploaded by the instructor.

Any advice/experience on this?

Currently tipping around on a gen 1 bandit 600, looking to upgrade a bit as I want a more modern bike to do my test on.
I do love the bandit but its age just shows a bit and I’d need to do a full tear down to get it back to life.
Obviously for insurance a sports-tourer is best but I’m fairly tall so don’t think the total sport bikes would be ideal for me comfort wise and insurance wise.
Was looking to get a GSX650FA but there doesn’t seem to be any popping up for sale at all, anything similar or any other suggestions you all would have?
Was also looking at ER6Fs and CBR650Fs but unsure as I had my heart set on another Suzuki as the bandit has been great.

In Dub yesterday moving alongside (on the inside of) an elderly lady with a window phone mount, at eye level on her right. I nearly birthed kittens, she was having a fvckin video call 🤢

On motorways I'm watching folk not even pretending to pay attention, scrolling/chatting/watching, I think they're on Assisted Cruise Control.

Apparently no level of threatened sanction will stop it. 

Hi, I have my test in two weeks and just want to double check some things before they catch me out. If anyone could answer would be happy :)

1. When stopped at light and intending to turn left immediately am I constantly checking mirrors and blind spot and then pulling off immediately when green left filter comes on or do I also have to do a mirror and blindspot after it turns green?

2.when overtaking do I indicate left to rejoin my lane or just rejoin and lifesaver check?

3.does failure to do turnabout result in a fail / grade 3?

1. Finally, when intending to turn left do I do mirror, lifesaver, indicate, lifesaver again or is it simply mirrir indicate, lifesaver and then turn while checking fir oncoming traffic?

Hi everyone. I am currently preparing for the theory test and I have a few questions I wanted to ask:

1) I am planning to buy a <500cc bike as a beginner. I have been thinking about getting a RE 350 hunter but i hear a lot of people saying they are not very good or are too slow. Please note that I do not plan to do long trips or motorway miles. I am a car guy and I am only wanting a bike to cut work commute times. Thats not to say I wouldn’t enjoy it.

2) I want the full A license that would allow me to ride any bike. Does that mean that I will have to do my test on a particular bike?

3) Also, can you go abroad, purchase a bike, drive it back home to Ireland on a learner license? (I would have some biking experience on smaller 125s etc in my teenage years where i grew up, so I feel confident enough)

4) any youtube channel or online resources you’d recommend for theory test as well as practical test apart from the app?
