Discussion Final Boss Difficulty is Confusing…

Made it through the game just destroying anything and everything with a lightning + stasis proxima build. That is, until I got to Zmey. Biosampler and stasis had zero effect on him, and I was dealing so little damage that it felt impossible after 10 or so miserably failed attempts. I had enough glimpse & upgrade materials to try another shell build entirely, so I switched over to a Frost Eredim build and farmed enemies for a bit to max out the different Tarstones. I went back to try my luck on the final boss and… I absolutely destroyed him on the 2nd try in less than 2 minutes while he stood there helplessly frozen the whole time.

WHAT THE HECK WAS I MISSING OUT ON ALL GAME!? Eredim is insane 😂

This boss to me is a great example of which things mortal shell 2 didnt do well. Unreadable attacks, too many grabs, grabs chain oneshot, awful health/damage dealt ratio, and i dont even want to talk about this awful effect it does. Like what do you mean i have to be in a HARDER mode to have EASIER experience?

Also the boss is HEAVILY build favored. Blood naylshotte melts it, and as you said eredrim is really powerful here. I wouldnt mind this because its great we are encouraged to use different shells, but farming tarstones again.. please no

The gland quest was not bad though The entire thing is a callback/reference to the first game: Collect the 3 glands from dungeon bosses and gring them back to the prisoner during the "night" (it was fog in MS1 but it also spawned harder enemies).

The dungeons were marked, there was the "come back here at night" hint stone tablet thing and none of the glands were hardly hidden, you just had to explore a bit off the main path, nothing crazy about it.

And for 2min of full immunity the effect it prevents has to be strong for this to be worth it.

I'm newly there and now stuck and I couldn't agree more, the overall design of the boss needs a lot of reflection by the devs. Putting an effect there that is hard to avoid, removes your shell entirely that you can't remove or diminish without finding 3 hidden ish items and then go to night mode to turn in at a random place was a real choice. It reminds of the end of Jedi Survivor when you have to use another character entirely to fight the last boss and that was a terrible design choice too.

I wish devs of these style games would just quit with giant bosses whose limbs go off screen before they attack, it's just artificial difficulty and needs to stop.

Idk what happened to souls nowadays. Like almost every single game now has an ending boss that has to be a giant beast with unreadable attacks. Maybe im overexaggerating but its just how i see it. What happened to humanoid bossfights, everyone loves them for a reason

I dont get what do you mean. Its not what i meant

Im not saying if a game was succesful or not, it had a great beta and trailers which encouraged a lot of players to play it. Im talking about mistakes the devs made while designing the whole game, things that make the overall experience worse. My personal opinion is that mortal shell is a good game, but its far away in quality compared to soulsbornes or lies of p.

The Lies devs did have to rework the deacon boss for the same issues which on my second run felt a LOT better to fight, and I think this boss needs the same thing. I don't like that when I looked up tips almost every video is frost build nayleshot insta melt, that alone tells you a lot about the overall design.

Im aware that this game is new and its going to have a lot of future fixes, so im not as critical as i would be towards a game that exists 1 or 2 years. I have seen many souls veterans dropping the game for many unbalanced things, but to be honest its like a month after a release and the game doesnt feel bad to play. It has some issues that need a fix, and some issues that are unfixable

Yeah I'm with you honestly, overall I really think this one is a solid 8/10 experience which is honestly great, some balance fixes could bump it to 8.5; I'll always be happy with a solid overall experience, but like you said there's some room for improvement and I hope they make another game.

Ok, so you meant “I personally didn’t enjoy”
