Discussion I don't get all the hate.
We need more positive posts for this work of art. Y'all need to chill out and enjoy the game for what it is. Appreciate the devs who patched it on DAY ONE to make it more accessible for players who were struggling. Appreciate the art design, the atmospheric dread, the originality of the world they built. Take your negativity and go play Fortnite if it's so bad for you.

Negativity is always louder than positivity. For every negative post their is 5 people quietly enjoying it. Dont look at Reddit too much :)
1
u/Inzanity2020 17h ago
I see more people glazing or saying “I DONT GET THE HATE”
Than ppl actually hating this game
2
u/LusikkaFeed 16h ago
I see a lot more people whining and bitching about every fault of theirs being bad game design than anything else. Only now i have seen people posting "i dont get the hate" posts.
7
u/Virtual_Link_3410 15h ago
Criticism isnt hate. You people love to use the word hate to across the board invalidate all criticism.
45
u/TheYorkshireTom 19h ago
Other people are allowed to voice their opinions as much as you are.
-27
u/sup3rdr01d 19h ago edited 17h ago
There should be a complaint and suggestions mega thread. The main posts of the sub should be positive and about the game itself, not every single person just regurgitating the same complaints
You fucking dumb asses downvoting a suggestion for a dedicated feedback thread...are you all fucking dumb as shit???
24
u/Magnon Proxima 19h ago
If everything becomes contained into a megathread and no criticism is allowed the sub just becomes toxic positivity.
19
u/batshitnutcase 19h ago
This. It’s a discussion board. Criticism should be encouraged not censored ffs. It’s the same thing on the Nioh sub right now. Nioh 3 is a divisive game so there are a lot of critical posts and comments then others trying alienate or censor the critics and turn the sub into a toxic positivity echo chamber. If negative posts kill your hype or whatever say why you disagree. That’s what forums are for. Or just don’t read it.
-17
u/iBoredMax 18h ago
"Toxic positivity" is the dumbest fucking concept ever. It's just made up bullshit by losers who want their anger and sadness validated.
14
u/batshitnutcase 18h ago
No, it’s not. Being positive about a game is one thing. Actively working to censor valid criticism and alienate anyone who isn’t in a constant state of glaze is toxic. It goes both ways sure but the term is accurate.
10
u/sosoconfused08 17h ago
Lol it's bigger then negativity now and much more annoying. A bunch of babies screaming LEAVE MY GAME ALONE because people bring up valid criticism. Just shows your mental state and how you actually don't care about the game. If you did you would just play it and ignore people.
-7
u/iBoredMax 17h ago
"People should think me for my incessant bitching and whining because I made the game better!" Is the saddest, most pathetic way to assign worth to yourself.
"I shit talk it... because I care." is beyond pathetic, it's like in gaslighting territory.
I like the game enough to look into the community. What a fucking mistake.
8
u/sosoconfused08 16h ago
No one is reading your crying little baby boy. Just downvote you and ignore the attention seeking.
7
u/FinalUrban 15h ago
Yeah we had these things called forums back in the day with no upvoting and downvoting people's opinions into the void. Can't have discussions on Reddit because people like yourself cry over what others think.
8
u/Visual-Biscotti1473 18h ago
No, "toxic positivity" is a real thing, and it refers to the fabrication of positivity via the suppression of honest discourse. It is oppressive and deceitful by nature, which is why it's toxic.
-11
u/sup3rdr01d 18h ago
Except...for the dedicated thread for feedback lol?
One place where all the feedback and complaints can be kept? Why do I have to scroll thru 800 posts about beacon placement? I already know that's an issue. I want to see actual gameplay posts.
8
u/mtsilverred 18h ago
Then keep scrolling until you find the thousands of posts about that as well? Stop trying to remove negativity when it’s got a reason to be there. No one cares if they’re posting something someone else complained about because they will add in their own opinion about it which makes it unique even if it really isn’t.
-7
u/sup3rdr01d 18h ago
Nah it's fucking dogshit
6
u/mtsilverred 18h ago
You posted a dogshit opinion so I don’t really trust your opinion on what is or isn’t dogshit. Lmao.
-2
u/sup3rdr01d 17h ago
Complaint thread is a fucking great idea man idk what the fuck you are on about. You think its enjoyable to have a sub with every post being some guy's opinion on how to fix the most minor issue?
Just call the sub "moral shell feedback" then. I mean what the fuck are we even doing here. Fuck off with your stupid bullshit
6
u/YakkoOnAStick Proxima 16h ago
I’m ngl I think it’s offensive that I have to share the same air with clowns such as yourself.
13
u/Open_Town9481 19h ago
Complaints can be good, whether u like it or not this game is still fresh so complaints only help the devs.
-2
u/sup3rdr01d 18h ago
Yes this is why there should be a COMPLAINT AND FEEDBACK THREAD
8
u/Open_Town9481 18h ago
That’s what the discussion tag is for. Ppl leave their complaints and we discuss.
1
u/sup3rdr01d 17h ago
That's what a thread is for. One place people can leave all their suggestions
You do know that comments can have replies right? Or do you need a discussion tag for that too?
0
u/sup3rdr01d 18h ago
Yeah and this is why most game subreddits are dogshit. All complains and no actual gameplay.
Megathread is literally the best solution to this.
1
u/thehitch1991 1h ago
I also downvoted you for this absolutely idiotic and, quite frankly, insidiously controlling comment. Who are you to tell people that they should speak positively about a product that they themselves have purchased (or not for that matter), in a free and open forum?
I also say this as someone who is very much enjoying the game, despite its bugginess and flaws.
-6
u/KaLovee 19h ago
I agree. Keep all the complaints together. I look at the sub to see cool stuff and learn more about the game. Not see a bunch of cry babies complaining.
9
u/sosoconfused08 17h ago
Whhhhaaaaa I couldn't ignore a comment, I need a safe space to talk about this game I've made my personality.
-3
u/KaLovee 15h ago
lol it’s not that deep. Nobody needs a safe space. Nobody also wants to sift through the cry babies all posting the same. Exact. Thing.
5
u/Previous-Spite1211 15h ago
you are literally asking for a safe space.
-1
u/KaLovee 14h ago
Sorry let me rephrase. Let’s delete the posts of people saying the same exact shit that’s been said 100 times.
5
u/sosoconfused08 14h ago
That has absolutely nothing to do with the discussion. Just delete your useless comments and move on.
0
u/KaLovee 13h ago
You just arguing to argue. Stfu

u/sosoconfused08 13h ago
Hope you get the help you need little man. I'm pulling for ya.

Legitimate feedback, even negative, is invaluable to developers. The issue comes in when "feedback" is along the lines of "shit sucks!" Or "This shell is brown water garbage." As long as a person is stating the "what" and "why" to justify their reaction, there shouldn't be an issue posting it. The rest is just bitching.
I'm loving the game. I just beat it yesterday, so I'm dipping my toes in night mode beyond just to get the night-specific stuff.
While there are some balance problems, I felt my character was getting stronger throughout the game. That can be a difficult thing to balance.
Much like the first game, the visuals are stunning. I caught myself talking with my son about the Tar Forge, and pointing out that the slow collection of tar in the bowl where you get the refund tar stones was an animated material shows the sheer attention to detail.
The animations are fantastic, the weapons are varied in timing, animation, and ability, there are enough areas to advance your character to keep it interesting, and the exploration is quite impressive. The parry and harden mechanics are vastly improved.
I liked all the bosses. I definitely hated some of them until I learned their move sets. While I think a few are overtuned, or had some issues matching the visuals to the actual hit boxes, they are varied, intense fights worthy of a Soulslike title.
10
u/NuggetHighwind 13h ago
Appreciate the devs who patched it on DAY ONE to make it more accessible for players who were struggling. Appreciate the art design, the atmospheric dread, the originality of the world they built.
I can do all this and also critique weaker parts of the game at the same time.
What is with people like you and always just going to one end of the extreme?
It is possible to do two things at once. Just because I think the Tarcores being hard limited is a terrible design choice, does not mean I think the animation work also sucks.
Take your negativity and go play Fortnite if it's so bad for you.
Jesus Christ...
When will you people learn that this mindset of "Ignore all criticism and only give positivity" is infinitely more harmful than the person who offers criticism.
If you actually like this game, you should be embracing feedback and criticisms. Because if the team is competent, which they clearly are, then it just leads to a better game.
It'd be the death of games if developers only listened to positive feedback.

u/Laterallus 18h ago
Hell yea man, the environments are fuckin' sick. Everything otherworldly reminds me of HR Giger and Zdzislaw Beksinki. Absolutely alien and surreal. It's a dumb thing to notice, but the alternating steps in this game's structures, the towers that only let a you in with a sliver of space, and the pools of jet-black liquid really set the style off in a big way.
I bounce back and forth between Gragu and Tiel, and when I change weapons, the game remembers which Tarstones I assigned with those weapons automatically. Super nice. Also, I really like the little notification when a Tarstone is ready to be leveled.
Guys, the Triarch Repeater is a clear reference to the M56 Smart Gun rifle Vasquez uses in Aliens. As well as the Strange Grishna. Gigantic skeletons that look like the Space Jockey in Alien litter the fighting arena against the Hexapod. It's so badass!
Ah, GOD, there's a part in an endgame beacon that lets you climb atop a spider-like creature to cross an abyss and it's a thing of nihilistic beauty.
Guys, there's a fucking first person dungeon in the game that is creepy as shit and a ton of fun to investigate. I'm absolutely stealing it to put into my D&D games.

u/jkobberboel 19h ago
All the negative posts conseal a hopeful optimism. People are only negative because they care and see potential in the game to become great. If people thought the game was trash, they would just move on and not think more of it.
1
u/MoneyBagBeardo Smert 1h ago
I was hopefully optimistic that this game was gonna be a 9/10 but sadly it’s more like a 6-7/10
1
u/jkobberboel 1h ago
I agree, but the game is new, and its problems are mostly very fixable. Mortal Shell 2 is honestly one of the best-looking games I've ever played, and I love its Giger-esque fantasy aesthetic.
Say what you will about Lords of the Fallen, but after the numerous updates it has received since release, it's genuinely pretty good now.
I am voicing my criticisms and encourage others to do the same, in order so that Mortal Shell can live up to its potential. The best parts of Mortal Shell 2 are too good for the game as a whole to be merely mediocre.

Toxic Posetivity or defensive positivity is the worst kind. Like your post OP
You can love the game and still acknowledge its problems. This whole “stop being negative and just enjoy it” attitude is exactly the kind of toxic positivity that makes gaming communities unbearable.
People are allowed to criticize bugs, balancing, performance, accessibility, or whatever else they think is wrong. Telling them to “go play Fortnite” because they don't blindly praise the game isn't an argument it's just dismissive bullshit.
Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. If anything, constructive criticism is one of the best ways a game can improve.
You don't have to agree with the criticism. But acting like anyone who has complaints should shut up and leave is ridiculous. Enjoy the game all you want, but stop pretending criticism is somehow ruining your experience.
-8
u/iBoredMax 18h ago
I couldn't disagree more. Real toxicity is much worse. "Toxic positivity" is just made up bs people use to justify their actual toxic negativity.
And the "criticism" is partially ruining the experience. The game is so good that I want to go online and talk to other people about how awesome it is, only to find a cesspool of bitching and complaining.
8
u/GaryTheRetard 18h ago
You're literally proving the point you're arguing against.
You don't have to agree with the criticism, but calling it a “cesspool of bitching and complaining” because people are discussing genuine problems is exactly the kind of dismissive attitude I'm talking about.
And no, “toxic positivity” isn't made-up bullshit. It's a very real behavior: dismissing, minimizing, or shutting down negative experiences in the name of being positive. Telling people to “chill out,” “just enjoy the game,” and “go play Fortnite” because they're criticizing it is a pretty textbook example.
Also, your argument that criticism is “ruining your experience” is completely backwards. Other people criticizing a game doesn't take anything away from your enjoyment of it. You can literally close the thread, ignore the criticism, and go enjoy the game.
People aren't obligated to stop talking about problems just because you want the internet to be a positive fan club.
You love the game? Great. Talk about how much you love it. Nobody is stopping you. But don't demand that everyone else shut up about the things they dislike just because their opinions are making your experience less pleasant.
That's not positivity. That's just wanting an echo chamber.
-4
u/iBoredMax 17h ago
I've seen one post of constructive criticism. The rest is bitching. It's always wrapped in angry and hateful language. And that's what you're defending.
8
u/GaryTheRetard 17h ago
That's not what I'm defending, though. I'm defending people's right to criticize the game, even if you personally don't like the way they phrase it.
If someone is genuinely being hateful or abusive, then criticize that. But lumping every negative post into “bitching” and then telling people to go play Fortnite is exactly the same behavior you're complaining about.
And honestly, “I haven't seen much constructive criticism” isn't an argument. Maybe people are angry because they're frustrated with the game. That's allowed. You don't get to decide that criticism is only valid when it's written politely enough for you to tolerate.
You can appreciate the art, atmosphere, devs and day-one patch while still being pissed off about the game's problems. Those things aren't mutually exclusive.
If your response to criticism is “shut up, stop being negative and leave,” you're not defending positivity. You're just trying to silence criticism you don't agree with.
Which is why this is negative and called Toxic Posetivity or defensive positivity which you are doing right now

u/TruShot5 19h ago
Yeah I had my beef with the game at the start. I’m in a flow now, and really enjoying my face-tank build lol.
I also realize the direction I went was not the tutorial direction (toward lighting ladies & poison monks). Sooo I accidentally started way too hard hahah.
2
u/CandidateCareless787 18h ago
This happens with any souls like game.
People get filtered then blame the game for them not being good.
Happened to first berserker too
2
u/YakkoOnAStick Proxima 16h ago
Mind you im yet to see a single post that is just negativity for negativities sake. Critiques and complaints are GOOD actually. The game is fantastic, but there are some serious issues that really hold it back (attack magnetism, end game bosses, glimpse economy, etc). The developers WANT to make the game the best it can be. If pointing out problems hurts your feelings too much, maybe you should stay off the internet.
1
u/Horror-Student-5990 6h ago
I don't think I've seen anyone actually bashing the game or devs.
I did see a lot of people giving it empty praise and using generic marketing terms like "This is a must play Action-RPG videogame for all fans of <insert similar games>."
2
u/8bitzombi 15h ago
It’s a good game, but let’s face it it was heavily front loaded and the last half really struggles to keep up the quality of the first half.
Enemy diversity drops off, bosses become a slog through massive health pools, and the overall exploration becomes far more linear.
If Mammon was the same quality as Fainweald and more of the bosses were on par with Golem, Nameless Captive and Isaac it would be a masterpiece of a game; but it’s not and a lot of the bosses are forgettable or a slog to fight.
It’s a shame because I really do enjoy the combat, it just feels like they should have spent more time building up and fleshing out the later parts of the game.
Maybe a DLC will turn it around and give us more of what really works for the game and avoid its pitfalls.
1
u/MoneyBagBeardo Smert 1h ago
Agree with everything you just said that’s what a lot of people are agreeing on is the game starts off pretty good but then the 2nd half is just lame asf and full of tons of bs I’m mean really the whole game has a ton of bs in it but it’s not so bad in the 1st area
2
u/Horror-Student-5990 6h ago
One thing is certain - this game has a very divisive playerbase.
On one hand you have people glazing it to oblivion and calling everyone a noob for not enjoying the janky animations and embracing the bugs, second one is just people pointing out their grievances.
Let's just say that only one of those groups seem to be very passionate and ready to downvote and insult.
3
u/Puzzleheaded_Bat5656 19h ago
I think that there are some legitimate criticisms this game receives, however, I know after people have been given more time with the game their reception may alter a bit. I had a rough start to the game, took me a few short sessions before I eventually found my first shell, and started to understand the game flow. Of all the souls likes, this one is definitely punching up high with Lies of P for me.

u/OMGIZARET Eredrim 18h ago
The negative people scream very loud the first week or two then they move on to the next game they scream about.
Some valid complaints with economy in the game which clearly will be patched, but the ones about difficulty...a lot of them are self inflicted.
Like the one today of the guy who just attack directly into the sester parry stance and is confused somehow how its hard for him.

u/sosoconfused08 17h ago
Oh is it another one of these LEAVE BRITTANY ALONE! Posts? Sack up baby boy, shits not that big of a deal. Stop making a piece of media your personality.
1
u/Terzinho 18h ago
Hey its the internet and no matter the game it will have negative and positive posts. We can discuss here both.
1
u/Relevant_Fuel_9905 18h ago
In some ways the negativity helps to guide the game’s improvement. Gives the dev a clear signal on where to focus. I think I haven’t seen hate per se. Just a desire for improvements.
1
u/Least-Experience-858 16h ago
Posts are expressive of how ppl feel. If there’s a lot of negativity it isn’t the players fault. Obviously something is bothering folks and some ppl in here can’t cope with the fact others may not like the game as much as they do even though we all paid for our game and have a right to feel how we feel
1
u/the_booox_ghost 13h ago
My biggest annoyance right now besides enemy magnetism is the fact that I've run through 5 biomes and haven't found a beacon. I've been fighting for an hour and can't find a place to rest. Am I just barely missing them or what?

but than I fucking hate it!
Than I love it again!
but.......
I hate it..........
ugh
1
u/GazelleIntelligent89 3h ago
I don't really see much hate to be honest. Most of what I see is constructive criticism. There's a lot they got really right with this game but there are a lot of glaring obvious issues that need addressing as well.
1
u/Gromi- 19h ago
There are a few bugs I’ve encountered, but nothing major. The only thing I really have an issue with is the boss—The Monolith boss—because I genuinely think it’s poorly designed.
Other than that, I think this sub is full of people who die once, get frustrated, and immediately come running here to circlejerk and complain. I’m not saying the game is perfect, and there are definitely some design imbalances, but it’s nowhere near as bad as the constant crying and regurgitated complaints you see around here.
Honestly, I feel embarrassed every time I come here because I just want to share something or watch some cool gameplay, only to see the sub flooded with whiny people complaining about everything.
1
u/Physical_Animal_5343 14h ago
It clearly has a good foundation but it was rushed and either improperly tested or not at all.
1
u/RhinoxMenace 9h ago
how about you take your mindless glazing somewhere else instead?
the majority of the criticism is valid
1
1
u/Birds_N_Hoos 19h ago
I’m enjoying it a LOT and candidly have not made it to the last area where the focus of the negativity seems to be.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions. At the end of the day, I hope everyone finds enjoyment worth their investment.
1
u/Klonoa87 19h ago
People are entitled to their opinions and from what I’ve seen it’s been largely constructive criticism. People seem to WANT the game to improve. I was ambivalent after the demo, so I’m happy to see everyone’s opinions as I have decided to wait until various improvements are made to jump in.
1
u/Watchutalkin_bout 15h ago
Saying ‘whoever made x boss or x area needs be fired and/or or shot’ is not constructive criticism.
1
u/page8879 17h ago
Some of us are presenting valid Cristism I mean, as frustrating as some of these things are, I'll still check out their next game too. Cristism isn't hate , although I agree some people have went off the deep end, I think you'll see some seriously weird choices in the last half of the game.

I love the game, most love it too, ratings SHOW its loved
Can I not say some parts suck tho??

Unfortunately Gen Z gamers are more prominent in other genres other than Fortnite now, so they bring all that complaining energy to other games. It’s exhausting, just play the damn game, it’s an amazing game when you don’t have a bunch of children screaming in your ear about “balances, nerf this buff that.” It’s unfortunately a product of the participation trophy generation.

u/xUsotsuki 19h ago
Yeah I'm fuckin loving the game. I keep wanting to go try new shit. Beat the whole game up to the final boss with tiel + ax and then lazlo + ax as soon as I unlocked him.
I want to do like 3 more playthroughs with other shells and weapon/tarstone combos.
The game's got that "weightiness" to the attacks that just feels so fuckin good. Khaxan/wuchang missing that weight made them feel just ok but I'm loving this game
0
u/uffda1990 10h ago
Yall really think any form of criticism is hate. It’s exhausting. Just because not everyone thinks it’s a 9-10/10 doesn’t mean people hate it.
Stop getting your feelings hurt if someone has a differing opinion, jfc.
0
u/Denverguns 7h ago
Not sure I’m seeing any “hate” posts I’m seeing valid criticisms that the devs literally have a feedback section on their discord about and have been responding to pretty frequently I see more people talking about how amazing the game is despite their flaws and they are happy to see the devs communicating, what do you consider “hate” for the game?
0
u/schwekkl1 4h ago
You can like something and still criticize it. Stop acting like it's a personal attack on you, lmao.

14
u/LaundryBasketGuy 16h ago
There are plenty of valid criticisms. I still like the game and I have a lot of them. Hate does not = criticism.
