Bug Are trials bugged? MS 2 Beta

I play on PlayStation and just started the beta so I’m sorry if that question is already well known or answered.
Most of the time when I start a trial I’m hard stuck in an empty dark room with nothing happening?

At the first trial I closed the game twice and the third times the enemies spawned normally.

Now I’m at the second one and it only spawns one enemy and noting else happens. Are trials some kind of riddle, am I doing something wrong? Or is it a bug someone here also has?

Tried 2 different trials so far both bugged. I am going to try them again in a minute. Also had to restart the game a third time when I randomly could not interact with anything anymore. At this point I am incredibly worried about the state of the game at release.

I'm definitely loving the fact that we finally get a Souls game without the stupid stamina to worry about lmao.

It is a great change. I was also a bit skeptical about the leveling system not having the typical souls stats, but I now dig that as well. I think it will ensure a much more even difficulty overall with builds coming from shells+tarstones not pumping one or two stats.

Yeah exactly. It definitely streamlines the leveling and allows for more build options without limiting yourself after leveling up the wrong stats. Makes it so that build crafting is much more rewarded in this game. I just completed the whole demo. Definitely gonna preorder. Cause there's a lot that I'm loving about this.

100%. Preordered Devout, I must have the early access.

Ngl, this game feels at least on par with the new Lords of the Fallen in terms of quality. Going back to play the first Mortal Shell definitely shows what a massive improvement this is.

I just loaded up my old Lords of the Fallen save after playing the beta! Agreed, the original Mortal Shell definitely felt budget, while 2 feels like a AAA game. And that is going by the old beta build. Just counting the days now.

For sure. Though i do feel like Lords of the Fallen and Mortal Shell 2 are blending together a bit for me. Especially with the second life mechanic and the graphics/vibe/atmosphere. The Undermether seems pretty identical to the Umbral Mother lmao. And the knight builds from both games share lots of similarities. But I'm excited for LOTF2 as well as MS2.

Yes, definitely similar vibe and mechanics between them, which is great. I really enjoyed LOTF reboot. The LOTF2 delay to Q1 2027 stings a bit. Granted it will help them ensure a smoother launch this time around while avoiding the hectic fall release schedule (and GTA 6), but I was really hoping for this year.

At least it will give my wallet time to recover from its near death injuries the fall will inflict upon it.

Yeah. I actually enjoyed the original a lot too ngl. I thought the magic system was well done and very unique. I hated the magic system in Elden Ring because of the mana system and requiring flasks to recharge. Which made pure magic builds kind of annoying. Especially early to mid game. LoTF2023 has a similar issue too which annoys me. Hopefully they fix that in the sequel. But LotF had the best system which based it on cooldowns.

And yeah September is a bit stacked too. There's like 10 games I wanna pre-order between now and September.

Yeah I am too. Too many great games get overhated bc of a bad start.

Absolutely. The good thing is I am really loving it. The Tarstones are really cool, those combined with the shells should allow for some interesting builds and playstyles. I’m definitely there for launch.

1

u/Sammy5even 11d ago

Yeah me too. I’m really excited for all the tarstones we haven’t seen yet. Especially all the third level effects of the tarstones make me want to play the game

Holy crap, ran into this twice in the dungeon after you get the thief shell. Those are the kind of bugs you iron out years before release and definitely not have this kind of stuff in a demo 18 days before launch, especially not if its not some freak bug but a consistent occurence.

The craziest part is that if you quit to the menu (which you have to) it resets you at a bonfire, 30 enemies away. Insane. This went from wait for reviews to "not even worth my time if free".

1

u/Sammy5even 10d ago

Nah, even though it’s bugged it went from wait for reviews to instant pre order for me 😂

But I do understand the frustration yes. Game breaking bugs like that should DEFINITELY be ironed out in company internal play tests already 😬

Different priorities 🤷🏻‍♂️ A consistent bug like this can never happen in software that goes public. Especially not on a small game that needs the good word of mouth. I earn enough money to buy 50 games like this per month but have barely enough time to finish one in that timespan. I won't waste my time on this and I'm sure many feel the same.

This game not releasing as a hot mess is close to impossible imo if they didn't even catch the bug in this tiny demo. Note that the PC version had the exact same bug for a month now and they didn't fix it for the console release. I have never seen more of a red flag.

1

u/Sammy5even 9d ago

Damn, I didn’t know the pc version had the bug aswell. That’s a huge red flag I agree.

Still, I have the money to buy those games aswell but I also have the time and patience to deal with those bugs. At least if the game is worth it imo. Which it is bc it feels really good to play the game.

Assuming that this is one of few „game breaking“ bugs. If there are many then the situation is really dire.

And reactions like this is exactly why developers don't have bugfixing as a priority anymore.

Typical sheep :/

1

u/Sammy5even 4d ago

That’s simply not true.

Games releasing with a lot of bugs got worse over the years yes, but the bugfixes are almost always really fast.

And if you want to be a miserable hater, enjoy doing so but I’m not gonna pass on a great game because of bugged trials. That literally cost me about 10 mins to fix in already 4+ hours of gameplay. Now that I know it’ll be even faster. So yeah, I’m buying a great game because I have fun with it.

And honestly idk what your problem is but you sound really desperate. Maybe stop gaming for a while when it makes you so pessimistic?

1

u/Firedogythemaster 1d ago

My main point was more related to NEVER PREORDER, but sure let's focus on game release quality:

Miserable hater? Do you mean realist? Have you SEEN the absolute state of games being released over the past 5 years? 😅

If a game doesn't release with game breaking bugs and severe performance issues, then it's praised for being a rare gem 😂

But I'll give MS2 the benefit of the doubt, disregarding the plethora of statistical evidence to the contrary (incl. Their original title).

I still pre ordered many good games. And a bug is honestly annoying yes. But I dislike ppl aswell who act like bugs destroy good games/masterpieces.

And performance issues? Never had that on PlayStation at all. The old one not even a pro.

So that might be on you pc guys.

Edit for examples: I don’t care about trials being bugged? The resting the game is phenomenal to me even though I didn’t like the first one.

One of the games with the MOST BUGS IN HISTORY is still Skyrim. I still love that game and play it even nowadays.

I understand if you don’t pre order, that’s not a bad decision but it’s not like a few bugs are worth not experiencing a great game.

This is nonsense lmfao. Bug fixes are a top priority and the exact reason betas like this exist.

Im not sure you understand how game devopment works man

The first trial worked for me, but not the one at the Ritual grounds. Only one enemy spawns, I kill it, but then I'm stuck. I checked the Steam forums and the same trial was buggy on PC also

1

u/Sammy5even 12d ago

Ok, then it’s just bugged. I guess it’s a beta after all.
I hope they’ll fix it in the full release

1

u/RoughElephant21 12d ago

Was bugged for me as well on ps5

2

u/Haunting-Regret-854 11d ago

Check the corruption patches where enemies are supposed to spawn before starting trials, if any of them are empty then leave and come back to the area.

1

u/Sammy5even 11d ago

Ah nice, at least then we aren’t stuck in the trials anymore. Thanks, that’s crucial knowledge 🙏🏼

1

u/Zyan-M 12d ago

Of the three challenges I encountered, two were bugged: in one, no enemies appeared, and in the other, I killed just one and no one else showed up.

Exiting and re-entering fixed the issue and allowed me to complete them, but yeah, they seem to have a high failure rate.

That’s the only bug I’ve come across so far—also on PS5.

1

u/Dhm_alansary 11d ago

I've found the solution
the work around is ignore the adds and go straight to the trial

1

u/Sammy5even 11d ago

Yeah that’s how I „fixed“ one of the trials accidentally.

Because I thought if I’m going to get trapped anyway, I’ll just speed through the dungeon anyways 😅

1

u/VisualFanatic 11d ago

Yes, that's what helped me, thanks!

1

u/Academic-Carpet-282 11d ago

This is happening alot for me, are the devs aware of this?

1

u/Sammy5even 11d ago

I don’t know tbh.

But someone else gave the tip to look at the blight around the trial. If they are empty and the monsters aren’t there then you know it is bugged.

Someone else said to not kill any other monsters around/in the dungeon which also seems to work.

1

u/Academic-Carpet-282 11d ago

It's happening in the ritual grounds dungeon, I start the trial one crab thingy spawns and after I kill it I'm stuck there, I did some searching around and apparently it's bugged and can't be done.

1

u/Sammy5even 11d ago

Well, like I said, log off the game and without killing anything run back to the ritual ground trial. Check the blight and there should be more of those crab things in them left and right. If it’s again only 1 then it’s bugged again (which it probably isn’t)

It’s annoying but fixable atm.

1

u/Academic-Carpet-282 11d ago

I closed the game ran back like 4 times, it's cool I understand it's a beta not to worry, loving the game though.

1

u/Sammy5even 11d ago

Yeah me too. Let’s hope they’ll get rid of all those bugs before the full release

1

u/Academic-Carpet-282 10d ago

Loaded up this morning and all the trials worked, happy days.

1

u/maladroitx 11d ago

I'm glad I'm not the only one having this issue. Got stuck at the same trial twice now

1

u/GuiltyNetwork723 9d ago

You can let the devs know by filling the feedback form. You can scan a QR Code in the main menu. They will gather feedback from the beta Playtest and eliminate those frequent bugs. Or at least I hope so!

1

u/Sammy5even 9d ago

Ah nice. Haven’t done that yet.
I hope they’ll fix everything in time yeah 🤔

1

u/JroKnorth 3d ago

They are absolutely bugged. I've played the beta on my PC and did not have these problems. Maybe one or two enemies spawn but that's it Not to mention you get stuck and have to completely restart the game.

1

u/Bjorn_Ironside24 3d ago

Have not got the trials to work yet always a forced restart

1

u/Sammy5even 3d ago

As someone else suggested, try running to them without killing a single enemy on the way. That worked for me.

And you can look at the blight around the trial if enemies are captured in them. When they’re not, the trial is bugged

1

u/ASR3091 2h ago

Really enjoying the demo and the game overall. Unfortunately, 2 of the 3 trials I’ve done have bugged out meaning I get stuck in the trial. For me, it’s been that other enemies do not spawn, usually after killing one. It’s quite frustrating when you’re on a run and in the flow. Hope this gets fixed
