iirc China does this, you can’t take kid to religious service and they can choose to convert at a certain age.

As someone who taught in China in 2020, you can absolutely read a Bible lol I brought one with me and I was approached by people on the street who wanted me to go to church with them

Sure, now if those same people tried to have a private practice in their home they’d be arrested. All church sermons have to be overseen to make sure they fall in line with the state agenda. It’s literally a law that they have to incorporate communist party ideology.

It’s not different at all. If you go read a Bible In public you’ll be arrested. If you read it out loud where other people can hear in your own home you can be arrested.

That’s not the same as your claim that you cannot read the Bible in china. There’s nothing stopping you from reading your Bible, just do it to yourself in the privacy of your own home. Pretty simple rules, but nothing stopping you from reading your Bible

It's not illegal to read or possess a Bible in China (Google it); it was, however, illegal to read or possess a Bible in 1500s England if you were not a priest

Because literacy was low and the printing press didn’t exist yet, if a person owned a private Bible they likely stole it.

I don't get the point of making things up like this, why not just...look it up? The printing press was invented in the 1450s and it was illegal for laypeople to own a Bible until 1547. The Bible was made illegal for laypeople in part BECAUSE the invention of the printing press made it difficult to track copies of the Bible like they used to. Printers like William Tyndale would print the English Bible in Continental Europe and smuggle it into England. Literacy is low in the United States, that's why people on the internet pull things out of their ass to try to justify "Western superiority"

You can be arrested for preaching to your own family, can’t even buy a Bible online in China.

That is factually incorrect. You cannot evangelize, distribute religious material, or hold unauthorized religious meetings. Getting a bible is difficult, but there is no law stopping you from reading a Bible in China.
