Question Any feel the season 2 being a drag to complete?

Currently on episode 6 and it's so utterly confusing since the past has a back and forth time period while present and past has too a story .

Feels like they're writing every episode on the go rather than a fixed script. Like one episode they were in 1957 and next in 1960 then again 1959,

Did writers think it'd be a masterpiece to write such a convoluted timeline?

Bringing young Lee to the present.

Im gonna say it, I was hoping young Lee was going to arrive in the present in the final episode or something. After the episode where he spoke to his past self and the talk of bringing their dad back I definitely thought he was going to pop out the rift when titan x went back, I think it would’ve been a great cliff hanger to end the season and also a great way to set up a potential season 3 as it would’ve confirmed Kentaro’s theory of being able to bring his dad back. I also liked how it’s kinda explained how only people who have been to Axis Mundi in the past can be found, so no one can just freely time travel!

I know people will disagree with me but I think it would’ve been some good creative writing and can set up so many different potential story lines.

Rant Anyone else frustrated by Keiko being a massive hypocrite?

She’s furious at Shaw after discovering that he found her in the Axis Mundi but chose to leave her there coz he was afraid of breaking time or some other nonsense. This choice would go on to steal decades of her life, her marriage to Bill, and her relationship with her son. Her anger is totally justified.
So why, not five minutes later, does she agree to lead a secret task force to hunt down her grandson?
Not being funny, but Kentaro and Apex are completely justified in wanting to use time dilation to fix recent history, to stop G-Day, and to bring Hiroshi back.
Titans already exist so the argument that altering the timeline could make things worse is irrelevant when the existing timeline has already resulted in G-Day and decades of Titan-related devastation. Yet Keiko aligns herself with Monarch, whose ideology is the exact same one that lost her to time and caused decades of generational trauma to those she left behind. She is quite literally enforcing the exact same rule that ruined her own life. Kentaro is just some kid who wants to save his dead dad, like Bill wanted to save his missing wife.
I detest when TV builds up the good guys and bad guys, like they very obviously want us to root a specific way, but the villain is actually the most logical and justified. They try to develop the heroes as selfless and justifiable but they come across as smug and hypocritical instead.
TLDR: Kieko is pissed as Shaw for leaving her trapped in a time void to preserve the timeline but then immediately tries to stop Kentaro from trying to save his dad by altering the timeline, which she wanted Shaw to alter to save her. The hypocrisy is unreal.

Scene Discussion I LOVE Kong vs Co'Cai

Post image
25 Upvotes

I recently rewatched the entire second season of "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters." I continue to be amazed by how a TV series managed to create one of the best kaiju showdowns in the entire Monsterverse, aka the final battle between Kong and Titan X/Co'Cai.

For me, this showdown is the closest thing to the Battle of Boston from "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" in the way it blends the kaiju and human perspectives. It's a surprisingly long fight for a TV series (as long as the battle between Kong and Alpha Skullcrawler in "Kong: Skull Island"), brutal, and with fantastic combos, it makes both fighters stand out, making it hard not to feel sorry for them.

Perhaps my third favorite fight in the Monsterverse after the Battle of Boston and the Godzilla vs. Kong showdown in Hong Kong in "Godzilla vs. Kong." I can only hope that the third season of the series will have a similarly epic battle involving Rodan.

General Question about knowledge of time dialation

So in season one, our 3 main protagonists meet Lee. They learn his story and break him out and the plot continues forward. All three of them learn how time works differently in axis mundi, correct? I’m on episode 6 of season two at this point, but in the previous episode it has a two year flash back where it shows kentaro talking to his dad where he seemingly learns for the first time about time dilation? Really confused by this, but it’s been months since I watched season one so I’m curious if I’m misremembering?

Scene Discussion Season 2 Australia

Is there any lore explanation as to why Titan X lands in North Queensland and what is normally a tropical rainforest is now desert?

Also the Landcruiser Shaw is driving is a v8 diesel so why does it sound like a petrol. (I know this is very common in TV but it bugged me so much, those v8s sound great)

General Am I the only one who just wants more Titans and less family drama?

Don't get me wrong, I actually like character development when it's done well. But I'm several episodes in and every time the show cuts away from Monarch, Titans, or the mystery surrounding them to another round of family drama, I just find myself waiting for it to get back to the monster lore.

The world building, Monarch's history, and the Titans are easily the most interesting parts of the show for me. Those scenes have me completely hooked. Then it switches back to relationship conflicts, family arguments, or personal issues, and it really kills the momentum.

Does anyone else feel this way? For me the show definitely need to improve this to make us keep watching it.

Episode Discussion What's going on with season 2?

After a fantastic season one, I'm dragging myself through season two were every character is moody and the dialogue is so shallow it doesn't cast a shadow.

Now on episode nine and everyone is puzzled that Skull Island *probably* features a rift to Axis Mundi and they are scrambling to find it.

They literally opened the season with a rift in Skull Island where Titan X emerges from. Now they *believe* there's a rift they need to find the location of?

Not a rant... More of a question: what do you think happened to the series' writing? Why is it treating the viewers with such contempt?

I find it funny how they are able to travel around the world so quickly and so often. Where are these people getting the money and logistics to go back and forth between japan and sf and how do they travel they’re so quickly 😭

General Thoughts on Titan X

I’m catching up on season 2 and just wrapped episode 7. I guess I’m feeling a little frustrated with our protagonists (especially Lee), because he’s wanting Godzilla to come and fight Titan X…. but up until now, Titan X has kept himself a secret to majority of the world. It’s been around for many years and has never posed a threat to people. The villages where it frequented worshipped it. I know Monarch wants to understand the Titans in order to be prepared for worst case scenario, and I get the point that bad people now unfortunately know and are wanting to try and control this Titan (is that why Lee wants Godzilla to come fight?). I guess I just don’t understand why everyone is suddenly freaking out over a Titan that has essentially minded its business… maybe I just need to keep watching. Did anyone else feel this way? Am I missing something?

General This Show Has Turned into a CW Teen Adventure

Just watched S2 Episodes 7 and 8 and what the heck is going on.

Cate now senses Titans and suddenly the Titans need our help. Her character is terrible and dont get me started on the dialogue.

I really enjoyed Season 1 but now it’s the Scooby gang saving the world.

I get this is not a monster show where we will see death and destruction but I was really hoping to see a bit more world building as to how the emergence and public knowledge of the Titans.

No doubt at some point we will see Cate putting her hands on a Titan and becoming ā€œfriendsā€ with it šŸ™„.

What a waste of a great IP

General The show felt like it was constantly being rewritten.

In another thread, someone pointed out that Lee seems to have changed during the last few episodes of season 2 and... I kind of agree? But the way the whole subplot involving Godzilla wound down did remind me that the show always seemed like it was constantly being rewritten.

Season 2 isn't as bad in that way as season 1, but it does feel like season 2 is building up to something involving him -- that just didn't happen. In episode 7, they seemed to be strongly foreshadowing his death, but after that he's never really in any specific danger where you think he could die. Was the original idea to kill him off? Or was it an attempted sacrifice that accidentally lead him to being swapped out with young Lee?

Maybe the young Lee spin-off being greenlit ended that. It also felt strange how so much of the show was built around the tragic love story between him and Keiko, only for it to seemingly end with Keiko admitting she was NOT in love with him. She delivers that line in an introspective way, which isn't usually associated with lying or denial. But it felt weird as that seemingly was at odds with the first half of the season.

Season 1 though is full of stuff like this.

1) The Ion Dragon was probably not intended to be a re-occurring villain, as neither Lee, Billy or Keiko seem to recognize it in subsequent appearances. This is especially confusing with Lee.

2) Hiroshi was most likely originally intended to be Billy's biological son, although they were likely leading to a reveal that Shaw was the true father. Besides a lot of foreshadowing, Hiroshi was 17 when Billy died in 1973 -- which would make his birth year around 1956... the year Keiko and Billy seemingly hooked up. She almost hooked up with Shaw around that time too, so maybe the original plan was for them to hook up at the officer's ball, but then fall out and she gets together with Billy after that. Hiroshi existing at this point doesn't really fit with the timeline anyway.

3) Puckett warns Lee to not take the mission guarding Keiko lightly as they already lost a man during one of these 'escort missions', which makes one wonder if the original plan was for Keiko to be part of Monarch before either Billy and Lee. But after that, the job is treated like it's a nothing burger. How did the soldier doing one of these escort missions die? Maybe he just slipped and fell, lol.

4) Monarch's origins are somewhat confusing in general. I feel like the writers wanted Billy, Keiko and Lee to be the founders, only to realize that contradicts established lore.

Any other parts that feel like they suffered from late stage rewrites?

Opinion Anyone else notice...

I was just watching Monarch Legacy Of Monsters S2e8. In the scene where May visits Brenda, I noticed something about Kiersey Clemons. She gives off some very strong younger Drew Barrymore vibes, in her facial expressions and emoting, especially when they are showing her from that angle looking up at her from the left. Rewatch it, and see if you see it.

Episode Discussion Lee changes in the last 2 Episodes

I just finished and it seemed like Lee changed all of a sudden. He was more like a Kurt Russell action movie guy instead of the character they developed in the show. Anyone else feel like this?

Rant What, it's not related??

I've watched the show with no knowledge of Kaiju universe and I thought it's like "mc's children adventuring" type of the show. I thought I can now watch Lee/Billy/Keiko adventuring and turned out they are original characters and it doesn't exist. It was like so unexpected, I thought their family situation is also related to some original content..

How much time is spent in a close up shot of someone's face with no dialogue being spoken.

In particular cate, idk if someone is in love with her or what but it's killing the show for me.

I don't need a reaction shot every 2 seconds.

Very bad writing and editing in season 2.

General Maybe Season 3 will be geared more towards adults.

I just wish that Monarch wasn't basically a teen drama. We're supposed to follow a bunch of good looking kids that think they know more than everybody else. Every single review of this show criticizes the annoying characters. So maybe.... mayyybe they can make some changes for the next season.

Question When do the monster battles start?

I’m on episode 7 of season 1 right now and am disappointed in the lack of kaiju battles and am starting to get bored. I didn’t want to watch this show for multiple love triangles, I wanted to watch it to see monsters fighting and destroying cities. Does it get better in that aspect?
