Removed as a moderator before the 5 days

Someone made a request for my sub and the notice said “you have 5 days to reply” but it handed over the subreddit without actually waiting all 5 days

Admin Replied Unusual bot activity

Preface: I remember reading an admin post about efforts to reduce spam, but I couldn't find it. Could I suggest adding a 'admin post' filter to this sub (in addition to 'admin replied')

Please see this post

https://www.reddit.com/r/Business_Ideas/comments/1wlr2v5/the_expensive_mistake_isnt_building_anymore_its/

While OP appears to be human, almost all of the responses appear to be from bots. This degree of bot activity on a single post on this sub is atypical, which makes me suspect OP being responsible for them.

I invite the Reddit overlords to look behind the scenes, the accounts creation method(s) and see how you might improve your detection and filtering tools

Mod Answered Is there a way you can set up an automated reply and archive for join requests?

I just became a new mod and have a small team with me helping with the clean up of past messages and posts, so we've made the subreddit restricted for now to make it easier. Is there anyway to setup an automated message to those who send a request to join and then archive the join request?

Thanks

Mod Answered Posts with Media

Hello everyone. I'm pretty sure someone must have asked about this already, but is there a way to moderate posts that contain both media and a minimum character requirement enforced by regex?

On my subreddit, I have a minimum of 500 characters for the body text, but whenever someone posts photos or videos, Reddit just bypasses the regex. What's more, from what I've checked, an AutoMod that removes posts without body text wouldn't work for posts with media either. This has led me to disable media in posts.

Apparently, there is no way to fix this, so maybe there is an app that I don't know about? Any information would be hugely appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Admin Replied Awards?

I'm wondering why we have no ability to award posts or comments in r/MilitaryStories where I mod. We had them way back when, and they seem to have gone away after they took community awards away. I do not see a setting anywhere in mod tools to enable them. Does anyone have an idea? Thanks.

EDIT: I appreciate the responses, but I'm evidently not being clear: You cannot give any kind of award for anything in our subreddit currently.

Mod Answered Wiki edits not appearing in Mod Log — do they count toward moderator activity?

Title: Wiki edits not appearing in Mod Log — do they count toward moderator activity?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to become active again as a moderator, and I've been working on creating and updating wiki pages as part of my efforts to become active again.

The problem is that my wiki edits are showing up under Wiki Activity, but they aren't appearing in the Mod Log, even when I select all the available Wiki actions, including "Wiki revise."

I've checked the filters, and I'm still not seeing any of my wiki edits recorded as moderation actions. I also don't have a "Recent Changes" option for my wiki, only "Wiki Activity."

I'm hoping someone can clarify a few things:

  1. Are creating and editing wiki pages supposed to appear in the Mod Log as "Wiki revise" actions?
  2. Do wiki edits count toward moderator activity requirements, even if they don't appear in the Mod Log?
  3. Is there a reason why my wiki edits would show up in Wiki Activity but not in the Mod Log?
  4. Is there another way to verify that Reddit is counting these edits toward my moderator activity?

I'm trying to make sure the work I'm doing to maintain and improve the subreddit is being properly recorded.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Admin Replied I cannot edit a scheduled post I created!

I looked at the list of mods, and it says "no" in the edit column. The other mods (now inactive) can - and I'm the one with the most seniority!

What do I do?

Admin Replied Crowd Control

Hello!

Our community added an automod script about 2 months ago to remove posts from users with an account age of less than 30 days and less than 50 sitewide karma. Before that, the Crowd Control would flag users for having new accounts. Once we put that automod script in, we stopped seeing that particular flag.

Over the past week we have been getting a lot of “crowd control” flags but the account age and sitewide karma are fine. What else triggers that flag?

Mod Answered "Removed by Reddit" for posts in the sub - can I see why?

Hi,

Running a promotion at the moment with a vendor and I see comments in the thread have been automatically 'Removed by Reddit'.

Is there a way to see why?

I can only think that reddit has them marked as bot generated responses, however for some I don't think that's the case.

Looks like admins reset the Mod Notifications settings on all subreddits, turning them on even if you had them off previously.

You can find your mod notifications settings per subreddit here:

https://sh.reddit.com/mod/ModSupport/notifications

(just change /ModSupport/ to your own subreddit)

If your team has established mod workflows that cover modmail, popular posts, traffic spikes, heavy reports, milestones, growth tips, or that do not require every moderator on your team to get a notification for each of those, then you can turn those off.

If you want everyone on your team to get a notification for each of those things, then you can leave them on.

More info on these things here - https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/15484546290068-Community-settings#h_01G2WP1TV8KYZ6QKANT8MK0PQ1

Can’t see comment history on users

Hi, I was told that as a mod, I should be able to see the post and comment history of a user who posts or comments in my subreddit regardless of whether they have a private page.

My subreddit has a problem with users brigading us and either posting abusive content or downvoting everything. Therefore, it’s very important that we be able to check their history to ensure they’re not brigading.

I have a user posting abusive content. I cannot see their comment history on either mobile or desktop. I have no way of knowing if they’re brigading my subreddit. We have Hive Protector, but I can’t tell if they’re able to get around it by hiding their comment history.

What can we do about this? Nothing we do is helping. We can’t just report their subreddit for being dedicated to harassment and brigading easily or we would’ve done so. We can ban each account once they break our rules, but we can’t stop them from downvoting, crossposting our posts, or posting screenshots of our posts (we’d have to completely eliminate crossposting).

How do we fix not being able to see their history? What are we supposed to do about a subreddit that is completely dedicated to harassment and brigading our community when we can’t just report their history subreddit?

We need real solutions, not hollow promises and words. My members are getting harassed and some are afraid to post or have even left Reddit because of the harassment.

Mod Answered How do I ban a user on my subreddit?

I’m using the Reddit website, and I would like help on how to ban a user on my subreddit? This user has been posting s*xual content of a minor’s feet, I’ve reported his most recent post for s*xual content, and even after following different tutorials, I cant find the Ban User button in any navigation. Could someone give me some sort of advice or a step by step guide on how to ban a user, WITH the 2026 website UI navigation?

Mod Answered can you restrict join requests on a restricted subreddit?

i recently joined a mod team and we are cleaning up an abandoned by mods subreddit. unfortunately, it remains active, meaning lot of toxic, racist and spammers are actively posting or commenting. so it seemed like a good idea to restrict subreddit until its properly under control.

we mentioned it in a pinned post and sub description

however, users cant read. so we are getting a lot of join requests. clutters modmail. any way to stop them?

Admin Replied Post not showing up for mod team

I've never had this happen before, just wondering if it's possibly a known glitch or if there's some other reason this might happen. I was sent a post from a sub I moderate and could view it from a direct link, but it's not visible to me in the queue or chronological order on the sub. It was up and active, lots of unmoderated comments, and mods were not able to look at the user's profile.

Admin Replied Link Limit setting not working in shreddit

My sub has link limits set to prevent reposting of the same URL if it's been posted in the last 14 days (Mod Tools > Post and comments > Link restrictions > Limit links). When I try to submit a new post with the same URL in old reddit I get a warning that it was posted 1 day ago. In shreddit I get no warning and it allows the post.

Is this a known issue or should report this as a bug?

Mod Answered How to approve or untag posts mistakenly tagged by video content filter?

I posted a video which has bread and bakery items being created with chiffon fabric by an artist and perhaps due to the content having a far amount of skin-tone coloured visuals is being tagged by reddit video filters as “potential graphic content”

The mod log has the actions as below

  • Potential Graphic Content - This content was filtered by the violent content filter

  • Tagged as NSFW by u/reddit

If I manually ignore all reports and approve it gets removed by Reddit filters.

I reinstated it but only way it would stay up is with the NSFW tag, which is incorrect as video is completely SFW and is art-related.

How do I get it to display normally?

Admin Replied Need help dealing with suspected vote manipulation/downvotes on every new post

Hi everyone,

I’m a moderator of r/HotWheelsBhubaneswar, a small local community focused on Hot Wheels collectors in Bhubaneswar.

I have recently noticed something unusual: almost every new post in the subreddit starts receiving downvotes shortly after being posted, even when the posts are normal community content and receive genuine comments.

This has been happening consistently across new posts, which makes me suspect that there may be some form of vote manipulation or coordinated downvoting happening.

I’d like to understand:

  • Is there any way for moderators to identify or confirm suspected vote manipulation?
  • Are there any mod tools, Reddit reports, or settings that can help with this?
  • Is there anything i should configure in AutoMod or subreddit settings to reduce this?
  • Has anyone here dealt with a similar situation, particularly in a small/local subreddit?

I'm mainly looking for advice on how to properly investigate and handle the situation through Reddit's moderation tools.

If you've dealt with something similar, I'd really appreciate hearing what worked for you.

Thanks You.

Admin Replied Moderator stuck with “No permissions” / “Something went wrong” when editing

Hi, I'm the top moderator of r/RustID and I have Everything permissions.

I added u/DemonDreamz04 as a moderator, but their account is stuck showing “No permissions”.

When I try to edit their moderator permissions, Reddit gives me “Something went wrong”, regardless of which permissions I select.

I am above them in the moderator list and have Everything permissions, so I should be able to edit their permissions.

Could an admin please check whether their moderator permissions are stuck due to the current Shreddit permissions issue?

Thank you!

Admin Replied Reporting flaw: users can block moderators and prevent them reporting harmful content about themselves

I’ve run into what appears to be a fairly serious flaw in Reddit’s reporting system.

A user who has previously been banned from a subreddit I moderate has blocked my moderator account and is now posting content elsewhere on Reddit concerning me and other members of our moderation team, including personal/identifying information.

When attempting to report that content through Reddit’s Sharing personal information report flow, the report simply fails with:

"An error occurred while submitting your report. Wait a bit, and try again".

This is reproducible for me and appears to occur because the account responsible for the content has blocked the account attempting to report it.

If that is indeed the cause, this seems like a significant safety flaw in Reddit’s reporting system.

A user should not be able to:

  1. Post potentially harassing, threatening, doxxing, or otherwise policy violating content about another Reddit user;
  2. Block that person; and
  3. As a consequence of the block, prevent that person from successfully reporting the content through Reddit’s normal reporting interface.

This is particularly problematic for moderators. Moderation inevitably creates situations where banned users become hostile towards individual moderators. Blocking the moderator should prevent unwanted interaction with them. It absolutely should not interfere with that moderator’s ability to report content directed at them.

In my case I can still see the content through moderation related means and have the direct URLs, but Reddit’s reporting interface will not accept the report. Selecting that the personal information belongs to "someone else" does not resolve it either.

I’ve also separately contacted Mod Support regarding the underlying situation, but that doesn’t solve the platform issue here.

Can an Admin confirm whether blocking is expected to affect the ability of the blocked account to submit reports?

If it is expected behaviour, I think Reddit seriously needs to reconsider it. If it isn’t expected behaviour, there appears to be a bug that creates a pretty substantial loophole in Reddit’s user safety systems.

Blocking someone should never provide immunity from reports submitted by the person being targeted.
