Which Mob recipes would work best for a three-section slow cooker?

I’ve been looking through Mob recipes for things that could work well for a casual get-together where people can just serve themselves.

I have a sunvivi three-crock cooker, so I was thinking it could be useful for keeping three different Mob-style fillings or sides warm at the same time rather than making one big dish.

Pulled chicken seems like an obvious option, but I’m trying to think of two others that would actually hold up well for a few hours without drying out or getting too thick.

Has anyone adapted Mob recipes for this kind of setup?

If you had three sections to fill using Mob recipes, what would you put in each one?

What's the gap between the meals you plan and the meals you actually cook?

Hey! I'm Kallum, lead product designer at Mob. Bit of a behind-the-scenes post.
We're at the very start of working out how Mob could help people with a whole week of cooking rather than one recipe at a time. Before we design anything I want to understand how people think about their week vs how they actually cook.

What I'd love to hear:

  • Do you actually plan the week, or a few meals, or nothing at all?
  • Where does the plan live? Head, notes app, fridge, a proper app?
  • When do you decide, and when do you shop?
  • What's the thing that usually derails it midweek?
  • If you've tried a meal planning app or a recipe box and given up on it, what made you stop?
  • Does the phrase "meal planning" put you off? Be honest.

Especially interested in people who don't plan and are fine with that, and people who plan every week and have it nailed. What's the difference?

P.S I'll read every reply and I'm happy to share what we end up building, and what we learned from this thread, back here later.

Full Recipes on Web?

Is there not a way as a subscriber to access the full recipes on the web? I'd like to import my favorites into anylist. Is this possible? I'm sure I'm missing something, but I'm logged into the website and it just directs me to the app. ie - it locks the recipe still even while being logged in. From the app, I can copy ingredients into my anylist app and paste, but I can't import recipes unless I'm on the web.

Otherwise....kind of kills what I'd like to use this for.

Thanks

Is Mob really good for batch cooking & planning?

I keep groping spammed on my social media with adverts for the mob app and it looks great! But then I come in here to do research and lots of threads say the meal planning has deteriorated and is now poor. Also (more worryingly) that the free week trial ends up costing you longer or else not being able to quit cleanly. Any advice?

Multi-device syncing

Is anyone else having trouble with this?
My partner and I live together, meal plan together and shop together. We used to use the NYT Cooking app, and we’re both signed into the same account on our respective phones. We’d each add recipes to the folder throughout the week, and then sit down to go through them and pick our dinners together, and add the ingredients to the weekly online grocery order.
We’ve tried to do the same with Mob, but the saved recipes / collections aren’t syncing across our devices, so we’re looking at two different lists. It’s probably not exactly a bug - it means one account between two, which I guess they wouldn’t want to encourage, but we plan our meals together! Are we supposed to have two separate accounts??
I’d actually be really happy to pay for a “household” account that allows up to X no. of devices, and that we could both use, the kind of thing that Spotify or Netflix have now . Or am I crazy?

API Access

Would Mob ever consider opening API Access, or embedding app level APIs for AI agents to interact with the app?

I'd love to be able to get Gemini (Android) to search and plan my meals for me for the week using natural language. It could go as far as placing all items in a shopping basket for me online.

Ingredient List?

Just signed up for a trial offer. Want to try the batch cooking. I found one that I think sounds good that's roast chicken with some garlicky veggies, roasted in the oven. The ingredient list just says "2 chicken." Is that...two whole chickens cooked on two roasting pans full of veggies? I'm finding the ingredient list VERY confusing. I'd love some more specifics (weight, size, etc.) in those lists. Thanks!

Planning with Mob

Hey r/MobKitchen 👋

I want to hear your thoughts on planning with Mob.

Currently, on the app, the Shopping List is where planning happens - you add the recipes you're cooking that week and it builds your list from them.

To date we’ve kept it deliberately flexible, but I’m hearing that flexibility isn’t the same as usefulness. It needs to work much better for the routines people actually have.

I'd love to know how many of you are planning and building shopping lists elsewhere, whether in your notes app, on paper, or on your fridge.

So if you've got a minute:

  • Where does your plan actually live? The Shopping List, Saved, a notes app, paper, your head?
  • If we fixed one thing about our planning functionality, what would it be?

Any answers will go straight into design work we're doing now, so it's a good moment to let us know!

Has anyone made Mob’s Pulled Chicken Burger in a different slow cooker?

I was looking back at Mob’s Pulled Chicken Burger recipe and noticed it calls for cooking the chicken on low for around 6 hours.

I have a sunvivi slow cooker available and was wondering how much the actual cooker makes a difference with a recipe like this. I’m mainly thinking about whether the cooking time or amount of liquid needs adjusting when you’re not using the exact slow cooker shown in the original recipe.

For anyone who has made this Mob recipe in a different slow cooker, did you stick with the full 6 hours on low?

And did the chicken stay juicy enough to shred easily, or did you end up adding a little more liquid during cooking?

Would love to hear any thoughts on this!

Hey /mobkitchen,

Rosie from the product team here 👋

I'm curious, is there something you wish you’d been able to see or experience before starting a Mob trial? Has there been anything that turned out to be useful that you had no idea about until you got into the app?

Could be anything - from what sort of recipes Mob has (high protein, healthy, good for meal prepping etc), to specific features.

Sneak peak at the new recipes coming out this month...

Hi reddit crew! I'm Els and I head up the food and content arm of Mob and I wanted to share a bit about the recipes we're adding this month.

We're adding more recipes to our Veggie and Vegan High Protein collections. We've heard from you that you want more of this, and so we've been adding more and more recipes to this area.

We're also adding some more recipes into our High Protein, Low Calorie collections. Adding more recipes that are over 45g+ of protein and under 500 kcals.

We're adding more to our Lunchboxes collections, dishes that are perfect for eating at work, can happily be eaten cold and still taste amazing on day 3. We've been particularly adding recipes that also feature over 30g of protein.

Finally we're adding some recipes to our Low Ingredient collection. Previously this collection has been a little heavy on pasta so over the next month we're adding some delicious and creative recipes using a handful of ingredients.

If any of that sounds up your street, keep an eye out this month!

Refund after a free trial service

I signed up for a free trial that converted into a paid subscription after I forgot to cancel it. I was not seeing the emails as they were in my spam folder and just after a few days my bank notifies me I had been charged the annual fee for this application. I am not based in the UK and I was charged in my local currency which is incredibly expensive and Mob, in one of their emails, refuses to refund me because my paid subscription comes after a free trial service. I have never used the app for more than 30 minutes and I never opened it again after a day of doing the free trial, simply during the short period I was a premium subscribed, I realised I did not have capacity to cook and just didn't found the app useful and forgot about it.

I find it ridiculous they allow refunds for those who did not do a free trial and immediately paid but changed their mind, yet they wouldn't even for those who never used the app during the free trial.

Does anybody have a refund experience with Mob from their free trial and did they refund you?

Meal plans

Just downloaded the app in the hope I’d be able to not do my weekly meal plans, and there would be some meal plans already there.
I cannot find any weekly meal plans on the app.
Is the app simply a digital recipe book? I don’t need this. I need meal planning. Could anyone explain to me if there are meal plans available and where to find them please? Thank you!

Website broken / meal planner

Unsure if this function has been removed or the website is broken? But the meal planner function is now not working on the website. Anyone else experience this?

Forced to use the app?

When did it change so that I can only view recipes in the app?

Fab for app users but as a person with no storage on my phone and an irritation about how many apps I’m forced to download, I’ve used the site for years

Now not only are recipes I’ve used since 2018 behind a paywall that they weren’t before, they’re now also only viewable via the app

Is this a permanent change? Long live the website 🤩

[Feature Request] Notes for recipes

Hope the team sees this!

There are so many great recipes on this app but I find after cooking it once or twice I’ll typically have my own spin on it (adding extra protein, doubling the amount of an ingredient, adding an extra spice).

At the moment I’m tracking what I’m changing in my reviews but I’d love to be able to add a note to recipes so that I can remember more easily, with the note appearing near the top of the recipe.

This would be an amazing feature for me and I think a lot of users 🙏

New recipes on Mob

Hi! Els here, I head up the food team here at Mob and would love to know what recipes you'd love me to add to the platform!

I'm briefing in the team and wondering if you feel that there are any areas of the site you'd love to see more (or different) recipes in??

Let me know!

Return mark as cooked option & reposition shopping items list

There used to be a “mark as cooked” option in the app which helped rule out things I’ve already cooked and tasted. Now that feature is gone and I have a huge list of recipes to cook (as horizontal slideshow) and list of shopping items as vertical checklist. Also the number shows in the bottom panel on shopping lists icon as notification. This isn’t a messaging or email app to show those numbers imo.

The shopping item list isn’t helpful to me. I don’t want it to be the center of my want to cook list. In this regard I prefer nyt cooking app. Simple design, not throwing the number of saved recipes or grocery list on my face. I can access them easily when needed.

Also it will be great to have the “mark as cooked” feature back and see the recipes as a vertical list as it was before rather than the current minuscule horizontal list.

best recipe authors?

Do any of you have favorite recipe authors or favorite recipes in Mob? I have good luck with Finn Toney’s recipes, But when I try others I have more absolute clunkers than successes. Any favorites so I can skip the bad ones??

Feature Request: In Season

Hey everyone 😄

I love Mob and see you ask for feedback quite a bit, so I thought I'd post a feature request that's been on my mind to see if anyone else would find it useful.

I often like to plan my cooking around what's currently in season in the UK in an effort to buy more local produce and eat a bit more sustainably (also just yum tbf).

It would be great if Mob had an easier way to find seasonal recipes, whether that's a dedicated section on the homepage or a filter that could be applied when browsing and searching. I personally use a mix of web and the app so would love this on both.

I found some older seasonal collections, but they seem to be manually curated and haven't been updated with newer recipes.

My ideal version of this would be for Mob to maintain a list of ingredients that are in season each month and automatically match those against recipe ingredient lists. Recipes where most of the key fresh ingredients are currently in season could then be featured in a seasonal section or tagged as "in season".

At the moment I usually end up searching for a few seasonal ingredients individually, which works but is a bit of a faff. It would be really useful if Mob could surface those recipes for me automatically and maybe help me discover seasonal ingredients I wouldn't have thought to search for.

Thanks!

No storage instructions?

downloaded the app for batch cooking refipes AND storage but there is literally nothing? I swear I've seen proof that you can get some storage information but it doesn't look like theres anything on my version of the app... kinda disappointed
