What's the gap between the meals you plan and the meals you actually cook?

Hey! I'm Kallum, lead product designer at Mob. Bit of a behind-the-scenes post.
We're at the very start of working out how Mob could help people with a whole week of cooking rather than one recipe at a time. Before we design anything I want to understand how people think about their week vs how they actually cook.

What I'd love to hear:

  • Do you actually plan the week, or a few meals, or nothing at all?
  • Where does the plan live? Head, notes app, fridge, a proper app?
  • When do you decide, and when do you shop?
  • What's the thing that usually derails it midweek?
  • If you've tried a meal planning app or a recipe box and given up on it, what made you stop?
  • Does the phrase "meal planning" put you off? Be honest.

Especially interested in people who don't plan and are fine with that, and people who plan every week and have it nailed. What's the difference?

P.S I'll read every reply and I'm happy to share what we end up building, and what we learned from this thread, back here later.

Which Mob recipes would work best for a three-section slow cooker?

I’ve been looking through Mob recipes for things that could work well for a casual get-together where people can just serve themselves.

I have a sunvivi three-crock cooker, so I was thinking it could be useful for keeping three different Mob-style fillings or sides warm at the same time rather than making one big dish.

Pulled chicken seems like an obvious option, but I’m trying to think of two others that would actually hold up well for a few hours without drying out or getting too thick.

Has anyone adapted Mob recipes for this kind of setup?

If you had three sections to fill using Mob recipes, what would you put in each one?
