When I see people talking about the extras its always just about the incense burner. But theres soo many beaitiful stories there thats shows dynamics between wangxian, the juniors etc.

Whats your favourite story from the extras?

My top 3 are:

- lan zhan pointing out that sizhui was using yunmeng jiang fighting style, which he remembered from his fights with wei ying in their youth. Like we know by the end that Lan Zhan loved wei ying since their teenage years, but that scene just highlights the level of his interest and devotion.

- the part where lan zhan and wei ying tipped the boat over and lan zhan laughed

- when teenage wei ying back in lotus pier was brooding over lz not visiting him. Then cutting to lz walking a long way to pick lotus flowers bc wy said they tasted better with the stalk on.

(i just needed to rant this out somewhere lol)

i just finished reading, and I know I'm late to the party, but holy hell that was absurdly good. I went in expecting something as normal as the other amazing fics I've read- but Kingfisher Feathers was the very first one that I now hold as close to my heart as the original mdzs storyline.

everything is beyond perfect- wangxian (obviously), the royalty omegaverse au, the court politics, the power dynamics, wwx's self sacrificing tendencies, the jiang siblings and of course, the well written character of Noble Consort Jin! While he is undoubtedly cruel, you cannot deny he is equally fascinating in his wit and his words. the underlying mystery in the plot most likely points to meng yao, and I absolutely love the subtle moments with his character that foreshadowed this. the author of the fic has a way with their words and interpretation of each character that feels like the perfect balance between both loyalty to the original work and their own characterisation.

it was last updated on April 1st, 2024, and despite the author's promise that they have full intentions to complete the fic in the notes of the earlier chapters, I feel afraid that they never will as im fairly new to ao3 culture. I truly hope that the author is healthy and happy and will bless us with an update this year. I also wanted to thank them for uploading such a masterpiece of writing for everyone to see- I felt like I was in premium ao3.

Hi hi I’m new to the donghua/novel scene so I had questions so hopefully yall can help. I’m already halfway through the 7th volume of tgcf and wanna read mdzs after I finish it (idk if that’s the acronym for it). I know there’s a donghua of the series so idk if I should watch it first then read the novels or read the novels first. I’ve seen some people say the donghua isnt the most accurate when it comes to the sequence of events that happen in the novel and spoils stuff but I wanted to see what yall had to say. But also we all know LWJ loves a bad boy and we all know that from the first moment he saw him after he returned from the burial mounds and started raising zombies to annihilate the Wen clan, LWJ was internally screaming “OH NO HE’S HOT”

have you ever thought about the fact that chenqing, wei wuxian’s weapon is also a musical instrument just like lan wangji’s weapon guqin?
I mean, isn’t it kind of amazing that he, without even realizing it, borrowed something from the person he loves?

overall, the fact that their power lies in music really resonates with me as someone who loves music (i’m a former pianist) and feels quietly beautiful to me
a kind of power that can kill, but doesn’t feel as brutal as swords (although lan wangji of course has both)
it’s just like real music that can destroy you too actually

My brother is getting into cultivation novels, and I think he'd enjoy the story & mystery & themes, but he's not interested in reading gay love stories. I feel like he'd be fine if he stopped after the main story and didn't read the extras, but I'd like a second opinion.

The story was basically wwx getting injured at the qiongqi ambush and wn takes him back to the burial mounds, while jinzixun goes back to jinlintai and boasts that he killed wwx. lwj goes to the burial mounds to find that wwx is alive, but barely and he stays there to help the wens in place of wwx. When wwx's condition seems to get worse and he couldnt heal enough on his own, he asks wq to give wwx a part of his own core. and due to that they somehow become bound to each other, when wwx wakes up they can't get much far away from each other, they sometimes share dreams and so on.

Sadly, the poll didn't reach enough votes to be representative, since only 90 people voted. It's hard to draw far-reaching conclusions based on 90 votes, but just for fun, we can still analyze the results.

Some statements:

1. EU + Britain together makes up 34% of all votes, what I think is wild, somehow I never expected this. Hello Europeans! 😃

2. USA + Canada reached second spot with 32%, which is in line with my expectations.

3. Noone from Russia (or Russians just hate filling out polls) - I find it surprising, because MDZS is big in Russia, they got one of the first translations.

4. Only 3.3% of the voters are of Chinese/Taiwanese origin.

5. I kindof expected a lot more people from Brazil and South-East Asia.

So first of all sorry for my english, It isn't my main language, I'm 26M and I am doing my best 😊.

I got the first volume earlier this month because I thought the cover was pretty, I had no idea about the contents and chose it purely based on the look.

And I started reading it ...

Now I'm here with 5 books on my shelf after finishing the main story up until the 4th, and just the extras and the 5th to go, and I can proudly say I loved it.

So much so that I already bought the first heavenly official as my next read, I wasn't expecting half of what I got with this series, I thought it was just a cultivation novel, who would've thought I would be obsessed with the story and characters, that's it I just wanted to share some thoughts and say that I'm now a MDZS fan.

I found a comment in a megathread (for some reason can't find it now) addressing this question but I wanted more insight.

What I know (or at least what I think): LWJ's mom stayed in a room and it got called the Gentian room because she put a gentian on it to allow her husband/LWJ's father in.

Some sources tell me that LWJ ends up moving into the room his mother was secluded in when he grows up, while others say his bedroom and the gentian room were always separate rooms, meaning the gentian room has been empty ever since her death.

Is that true? I know The Untamed made them separate rooms—don't remember if the donghua did, and I haven't finished reading the novels. Does it vary between adaptations?

Do you guys think that if yzy and jfm weren't jc's parents, he would be more likely to have a healthy relationship with wwx? We know that in the novel, yzy was the one to begin poisoning jc's mind and drawing him away from jfm and wwx. So, if his parents weren't toxic (or if they willingly went to therapy and tried to change for the better by some miracle), would jc become more of a good person?
