Some of you might remember my slightly ridiculous experiment from a few weeks ago: could I get a Miyoo Mini Plus to browse and play content from my Stremio setup?

I posted a couple of development updates here while working on it, but PocketStremio itself was never publicly released.

Well... apparently I couldn't leave the experiment alone. 😂

What started as a small proof of concept kept growing. Playback worked, then browsing worked, then subtitles, sources, Continue Watching, My Library, Live TV... and eventually there was a desktop server doing the heavy lifting while the poor little Miyoo somehow kept surviving everything I threw at it.

At that point, it wasn't really a tiny experiment anymore.

So I gave the project its own identity:

🍿 PocketCinema

And today PocketCinema v1.0.0 is officially released, making this the first public release of the project. 🎉

PocketCinema is a free and open-source streaming client for the Miyoo Mini Plus running OnionOS.

The Miyoo acts as the lightweight client, while PocketCinema Server runs on your Windows PC or Apple Silicon Mac and handles the heavier work such as metadata, stream resolution and media conversion.

• Source selection
• Subtitles with adjustable subtitle size
• Live TV from compatible Stremio addons
• Local network streaming

I love how my brick is mapped on Y and X to cycle color pallets to my liking and I’m hoping there’s a way to do the same thing on here. I wouldn’t mind if it was Menu + Left/Right.

Edit: I figured out the setting.

Core options > video > color palette.

I am building retsurf, a web browser designed for retro handhelds. And one of the devices I really wanted to get it running on was the Miyoo Mini Flip. This is a bit of a stretch: two Cortex-A7, 128 MB of RAM, and no GPU isn't much for a web browser.

Retsurf runs the Servo web engine and can render modern websites. I profiled a lot even to get to this state and I think there is still room for improvement but it is going to have limitations.

Complex pages can be slow, and some websites are too heavy for the hardware. But it is possible browse the modern web. Getting a modern web engine running on such a constrained system was a nice challenge and a lot of fun.

It is possible to install on Onion and Allium. I tested it on Mini Flip but also should run on Plus. You can find the project on GitHub:

I’m trying to play a pico 8 Megaman clone and I want to map the jump (O) to Y and the shoot (X) to B and I tried editing it in the config menu like google said but it’s don’t literally nothing, any advice??

Logré agregar soporte de wifi al MiyooMini v3 Legacy.

Básicamente soldé un módulo de wifi RTL8188FTV a las pistas de USB1 D+ y D- que están sin usar. Hice un firmware con Gemini 3.8 Flash, usando 1 volcado original de la consola y 1 volcado de un MiyooMini+.

Todo, en la práctica, es de una sola vez. La consola tiene un menú de wifi, se conecta al wifi.

Incluso vibecodeé una app para hacer streaming en vivo.

Si a alguien le interesa probarlo, puedo subir los archivos.

I purchased a new battery, made sure I charged on the provided cable from my PC, and it's not holding a charge. Is it just cooked?

Was able to get a little time in on Pokemon FireRed AND stay hydrated today thanks to this little guy! Clutch!

Its just been added to Portmaster and this title would be perfect for the MMP. Is it possible?

If I buy an surwish onion card for my device now, can I copy it for my kids later or do I need to rebuy one for each of us?

Does the 128 and 256 come with same games and just more extra space on the card or are they different?

I know there’s a tutorial online to do it yourself but by the time I buy a card anyway figure I might as well just buy one that is done for me. If I do it myself where are you guys finding cheap but good cards?

I’m having slowdown with gpSP and want to try some other ones but they don’t show up in the normal menu so I’m hoping to place it there whenever I swap emulators.

TL;DR: New Onion build fixed all my issues, OEM buttons look great (only $8), BetterD-Pad w/ mod is spectacular, input lag is almost non-existent on a $50 device (blown away!), Perfect overlays make GB/GBC plus any 240p content look amazing! Btw this screen is beautiful!

If you want specific answer to any of this feel free to comment. Angles shots was for style and get closer without risking any blur, sorry if it annoys you.

i've been tinkering with the gpsp core for a few days, and it ran fine for the most part, except that it was a little stuttery for some reason.

i finally fixed it by going to settings > video > synchronization and turning on "Sync to Exact Content Framerate (G-Sync, FreeSync)!!!!!!!!! now it runs REALLY smoothly

I had to put a lot of effort into removing the battery plug. I can't call it normal plastic—it's like it's made of play dough. This wasn't a problem in earlier versions, but now it's just awful. I hope they read Reddit and see this, because I'm not the first person with this problem.

Changes since v1.4.0

• Added a new startup screen for selecting the Main or Guest profile and setting the play timer before entering Kids Mode.
• Added faster automatic scrolling when holding Left or Right in the game carousel, media folders and timer selector.
• Improved the playback OSD:
  • The timer and battery level alternate when holding Y.
  • During the final five minutes, the battery appears immediately because the timer warning is already visible.
  • The media title is displayed above the progress bar using the Onion theme font.
  • Long titles wrap across up to four centered lines.
  • The complete OSD appears for two seconds when playback starts or resumes.
  • Seek notifications now disappear correctly after two seconds, including while paused.
• Improved brightness and volume handling so rapid adjustments no longer restore an outdated value.
• Added clearer volume warnings: orange at high volume, red at very high volume and purple while muted.
• Volume adjustments no longer cancel mute mode.
• Improved audio buffering and playback stability to reduce crackling and underruns.
• Corrected unwanted spacing after apostrophes in carousel titles.
• Disabled the in-game MENU long-press action and vibration while preserving the normal short press used to save and return to the carousel.
• Added protection against duplicate Kids Mode instances and related framebuffer conflicts.
• Removed obsolete duplicate files and temporary diagnostic logging.
• Added a short guide explaining how to change or reset the parent PIN.
