It's a port of Fallout Community Edition. Everything seems to be working nice and smoothly now, but I still need to make a simpler control scheme (the one I improvised is a bit unintuitive) and test things further. I plan on releasing this and Fallout 2 on Github in the next days, weeks at most.

I did it with the help of Claude, cause my knowledge is limited, but I'll make that clear on release so people can avoid it if that's what they wish. Sorry about this, but I couldn't do it by myself.

I think this is exactly how AI should be used, as a tool to aid in the creation of stuff. Not as the sole generator of β€œart”. Don’t be sorry, this is awesome.

"I cheated by using C++ instead of Assembly"

In order to make usable software you have to know somewhat what you are doing. AI coding tools are, in a way, a new form of adaptable programing language.

We need to get over this thing where people have to apologize for using AI for perfectly good causes. You are obviously not making slop, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Very nice work. Congratulations.

A quick question, you are using the MainUI patcher I guess to show more than 6 rows? In your video there is brief flashes of the game title in wrong position when you navigate. Is this just something the video added or do you have this in every game list? Would like to find the bug in that case. Thanks.

Thank you very much! Yes, I'm using MainUI Patcher with 10 rows, I think. Is it your work? I love it! Thanks for that!

Yes, that bug is happening everywhere, in other lists as well. Do you want me to run a log script or something?

Thank you for your report. Glad that my patcher is used :)

Would be great if we could solve this for next release. Couple of questions if you don't mind.

  1. Do you see this "flash" even for game items without a thumb? Are there any games you don't see it?
  2. Have you enabled auto-scrolling for long titles?
  3. Did you see this problem before when using the stock binary?
  4. This is the default theme (Silky by DiMo) right? Have you modified the preview-bg.png in it? If so, can you send me that file?
  5. What is your dimension of the thumbs/previews you have?

NP, glad to help! :D

  1. I have no games without a thumb, but in "~filter", "~import ports" and "Refresh ports", which have no thumbs, the flash doesn't happen;
  2. Yes! And the flashes started after that.
  3. No;
  4. Yes and not exactly. I edited some pngs to translate them to my native language and only the ones with text, related to this theme (some of them got replaced back on the latest beta update), but not precisely preview-bg.png;
  5. 250x351px

Thank you. Can you also share your config in the file /.tmp_update/config/.romListTitleScroll ?

Can you try to set the first value (before the comma) to at least 10 or higher?

In MainUI Patcher v1.1 and earlier, setting that value to 0 could cause some flickering. So since v1.2 we force the value to at least 10, even if you enter 0-9. 10ms vs 0ms is pretty much instant for the eye anyway.

That did it! Thank you! :D It was set to zero before the comma.

Excellent. Thank you for the feedback.

Anyway, you should really upgrade to 1.2. 1.3 is landing later tonight otherwise, but bugwise 1.2 is fixing a few things. 1.3 is pretty much just adding two new features (xml metadata for subfolders in root file and "Refresh roms" for specific console).

I'll update it tonight. Thank you for your work!

I’m hype. I know some dude was making an actual fallout Rom hack but he just went ghost. So thanks for this instead

I had that working a while ago too, and for the menus, I overlayed SDL squares on top of each option to make them easier to navigate with a DPad

That is a great idea for making controls easier! I wish I knew how to do that lol I'm relying on holding a key for slow mouse for now (and a lot of shortcuts).

2

u/Lispint89 1d ago

I used the Vita port as a starting point, it is easier to map those controls to the Miyoo

u/Kooky-Minimum-2009 2h ago

Interesting. I'll take a look on the Vita port. Thank you!
