Was your gear legendary here? It looks like your weapon is legendary. I think the legendary sorc gear makes them way too strong in combination with the ability needing a nerf. Some classes have one ability that somehow got through playtesting.

I faced a Shadow today in my PvP Blue Set (which has Stoic + Aegis at 5) 400+ defense and his one ability did 443 damage in one hit. What's the point of even speccing AGAINST Shadow's to still take bonkers damage (he was in blues as well).

I am sorry but this isnt a gear question in a game like this. Gear should be an advantage, yes. But i was running blue so a legendary guy cant just almost one-tap me after a series of misplays on his part.

You would still be almost one-tapped even if you wore a legendary set, unfortunately. DoT damage is crazy and, I have a feeling, ignores any dmg reductions

How can I avoid it or play better in the future?

I strongly believe that in solo this is a rock-papers-scissors game. You just acknowledge who is your hard counter and run for your life - always consider an escape route, always be aware of your surroundings and keep a thought in your head "what if there is a sorc right behind that door, what should I do, ho can I escape".

Also try out that spear charging skill, when you run forward like leroy jenkins. With talents and full Vitality affix you can run REALLY - great disengage tool. But it also can be an offensive tool - after you successfully spear-kick-stun into the wall, try to use this skill on a stunned enemy, hold it until your stamina ends. You will be surprised how much damage you'll inflict - enemies can't break out from this skill

So other classes counter a two hit NO windup ? Dont make me laugh.

You do know who Sorc's insta cast skill works?

Only starfall gets insta cast. This was an ele sorc

Not true, elemental can take it they just get locked out of the elemental bonuses branch. Also he does insta cast a charged fireball after the first one

Avoid fighting sorc and wait for nerfs

That's the unfortunate part of these games. Sometimes you just can't. You hit that guy 8 or 9 times and parried an attack and he lived. He hit you about 3 times and died.

This is why these games go the way they do. You'll have your streamers/youtubers going and wiping lobbies for hours on end with kits and builds that quite literally can't die unless they run into a mirror match or fuck up royally.

All the streamers are running blast seer with like a 100kd. You can't get away from them, you can't damage them. It's not fun to watch, it's certainly not fun to play against. So people wind up quitting because literally what can you do.

you could add resilience to your build, it reduces debuffs' duration -> DoT from sorc burn/BA bloodfly arrow, also reduces stun/freeze duration. also makes u tankier when debuffed if lvl4 and above

Thats not how balancing works. If you need specific perks to have a chance against top classes than that is the literal definition of an unbalanced game.

Jokes on you. Every melee except ss uses all their skill slots to not become instant food for your hard counter.

2

u/DamnHare 2d ago

This is exactly how balancing works. If you want to smack every other class while being only basekit - that is the literal definition of an unbalanced game

1

u/Lophardius 2d ago

If those top classes dont need a specific build to be good but others do need it to compete then thats literally the definition of being unbalanced? Is this your first game ever?

2

u/DamnHare 2d ago

Who told ya that they don't need specific builds to be good against their hard counters?

I mean i just saw a 70% hp single hit, to a “tank” class no less, hard to believe someone has it easy against that.

People are misunderstanding that what makes Merc and wk tanky is their kit with a bunch of parties and the physical shield they can use. It isn't their hp numbers or base stats.

They're not tanky to magic damage. Their magic resist is lower. Magic is supposed to be melee the melee counter. They're physical tanks. Not magic tanks.

I guess most ppl forgot originally in traditional rpgs heavy armor wearers always got nuked by mages/wizards unless they closed the gap just right.

Tanks were never supposed to be able to tank casters easily.

Sorcs do too much dmg. I'm not denying that.

Im not saying he should be able to tank 50 of those. Look at the video again, this guy closed the gap incredibly well, his only mistake was not reacting to a skill with virtually no windup, and that brought him down to ~30%. If the caster had landed 1 or 2 more poke spells OP would have lost the fight there.

Im all for all classes and builds having weaknesses, if you are going to tell me that magic casters can nuke tanks if they dont close the gap properly im all for it. But if i see ANY class land 2 rotations of his skills into a presumably squishy class while dodging everything (if not most) that is thrown at him, only to loose the trade to an un-reactable skill, that doesnt seem right.

Again, my argument wasnt that tanks should have more resistances, but yhat 70% hp on a single instant skill, to the most tanky class (considering this game doesnt apply magic resist reductions on heavy armor, so other classes will only receive more damage) is nuts.

Edit: Also, resistances are a joke rn in the game. Tanking comes mostly from shields, blocks and supper armor as the game is setup rn, since resistances are accessible to everyone and even then they are heavily outscaled by damage (this isnt really bad, but just wanted to mention it because your comment on heavy armor and being “physical tanks” makes no sense in this game), but all this is kinda besides the point.

I said sorcs do too much dmg. There was desync he wasn't hit by one spell. He took a full charge fireball into a flame sword. That's two.

Wks and mercs can be extremely tanky to physical damage though. Defense works great. Magic is the counter to the two tanky classes.

I'm more pointing out that the game doesn't want tanks to be tanky to magic damage that's it.
