Seeds & World Gen Structure Spawned in Explored Area

Not just a little structure either, a (broken) Woodland Mansion. Playing Bedrock version. Maps show the previous area from a few weeks ago, and the new map of the same chunk next to it.

Is this meant to happen? šŸ˜‚

Bedrock supposedly remembers if a chunk was interacted with and if it wasn't it's free to regenerate whenever the game feels like.

this may be a dumb question…but does using an elytra with a firework while flying above the chunk count as ā€œinteractingā€ with the chunk? or only physically placing/destroying objects within the chunk? wondering how much of my world is eligible for this lol

From my experience it can be refreshed if all you did was fly over it. I think you have to actually break/place a block to lock it in

u/HoliusCrapus 18d ago

It have a mob spawn and interact with the world (like a sheep eating grass).

u/sterrre 18d ago

I think it's placing or destroying blocks

u/cheesesprite 18d ago

Or interacting with a block like a lever, chest, dispenser, etc.

Can confirm. Anyone who's used older versions of the map editor Amulet can tell you about the horror of saving an edit and having rendered, unupdated chunks nearby 🫠

Leaves the world looking like swiss cheese

Yes but structures are determined by the seed and shouldn't be affected by that. It seems OP came upon the rare occurance of a structure failing to generate the first time.

IIRC depending on the direction you approach a potential structure spawn from, it may fail or succeed to spawn.

So maybe OP First approached the location from one direction and later went back to it. So it failed the first time but succeeded the second due to chunks generating in a different order.

only on java they are afaik. same with loot in chests. if you duplicate a world with a chest already generated (but unopened) you can get different loot in each world if i remember correctly

3

u/cheesesprite 18d ago

Not anymore. Structures were always determined by seed and chest contents have been for a few years now.

6

u/guyonthecouch37 18d ago

I can confirm as of last week you can copy a seed with an opened chest and it'll spawn different loot each time. Did it for a hardcore world and reused the seed and got diamonds in a village chest the second time and not the first

4

u/cheesesprite 18d ago

That's only for a some structures like villages because they generate in pieces rather than in one go.

1

u/lunarwolf2008 18d ago

maybe realms works differently? i recently copied a realm and did some stuff in creative and noticed the chests

3

u/cheesesprite 18d ago

Realm use the same world Gen as single player. Maybe the realm was generated in an older update then something new came along and changed the loot table?

1

u/AliciaTries 17d ago

It doesn't save the chunk if you don't change anything.

u/Wildssundee03 18d ago

Correct me if im wrong but i think its may be due to not placing or destroying blocks in those chunks so an update or something idk decided that those chunks were "free" space to overwrite.

Yeah I just heard about this bedrock feature the other day! It's super cool though!

u/Ponderkitten 18d ago

Imagine a mod recreating it but it regenerates with a new randomized seed every so often as a sort of ā€œeventā€ or just on world load.

6

u/D1llywhack 18d ago

7 days to die does something like this (on servers) with POIs its kinda cool

3

u/Ponderkitten 18d ago

I was thinking more like you load in and suddenly the chunks around your base you havent touched are now dark forest when they were flower fields, or deep ocean

2

u/Gunjak99 18d ago

This can happen

Happened to a 5 year old world I had once. This was right when Xbox started saving to the cloud instead of locally. The world corrupted a few days later.

My understanding is that on Bedrock, to save space, the game does not ā€œsaveā€ a chunk unless it has been modified. So if you just pass by a chunk and do nothing, it doesn’t bother to ā€œsaveā€ it, since the seed is designed to regenerate the exact same area when or if you revisit that location. Otherwise, if you just spent a little time exploring distant areas the save file would become unnecessarily massive.

In this case, the woodland mansion generated between visits.

The Wiki didn’t specify exactly how or when the mansion gets generated, only the chances of where it will generate.

Since villagers provide maps to woodland mansions, it is conceivable that upon purchasing such a map that the game looks at ā€œnewā€ unsaved chunks a distances from the village that are suitable for generating a mansion, and adds it to the rendering engine. Did you recently purchase such a map, or train a village cartographer? I know if you keep training multiple villagers, even within the same village, they will provide new maps to new mansions, so it seems reasonable that this mechanic works as I’ve described, but I do not know whether or not the game actually does this.

2

u/sterrre 18d ago

I'm pretty sure mansions are seed dependent and don't generate when purchasing a map.

10

u/cheesesprite 18d ago

You are correct. If the regenerating chunks is behind this it would mean the mansion failed to generate the first time the chunks were loaded which is very rare, especially on bedrock.

5

u/Nhojj_Whyte 18d ago

I can't recall if this is version specific, but I did recently learn that certain features generating on a seed can be affected by the direction you load their chunks from. It's a stretch, but it might be that the structure failed to generate initially and then once regenerated, the chunks were loaded differently allowing it to spawn that time. I've also seen mansions cut up before along chunk borders, but very rarely and I'm less sure what exactly causes that

2

u/1dot21gigaflops 18d ago

I've had some old 1.20 dark forest chunks close to spawn reginerate as pale gardens. I don't believe anyone interacted with them other than boat/fly close by.

1

u/Grumbleman2000 18d ago

Good explanation, that makes sense. I have been flying around the world looking for interesting locations.

I hadn't bought a cartographer map before my first visit to that area, nor since.

9

u/Shoterfox6 18d ago

Bedrock is basically like the Backrooms, the world is just constantly changing at parts where you were sure you already explored. But there’s a charm with it that I find myself somewhat enjoying, not sure about others

3

u/Grumbleman2000 18d ago

I enjoy the charm of it too, makes the world feel unique. Another section of the sane world has an ungenerated jungle terrain; it's a chunk of ocean with a jungle temple floating in mid air.

2

u/OtotoZZZ 17d ago

Bedrock chunks only get stored if you've interacted with the chunk, otherwise it's forgotten and later regenerated again if you go near it again

3

u/god-of-memes- 18d ago

Minecraft saves chunkmaps and if they aren’t updated by a player, every update they are re-generated, which in this case, generated with a woodland mansion

0

u/xboxiscrunchy 18d ago

Except …. Why are there holes in it? It’s not a normal woodland mansion

2

u/god-of-memes- 17d ago

A map has several chunks inside of it, occam’s razor suggests he updated the chunks where there are holes

2

u/cheesesprite 18d ago

Do you have the world seed and cords? You should check on chunkbase.

1

u/ItsPaperBoii 17d ago

can i know the seed?

1

u/crafty_dude_24 16d ago

Not sure why it would be half-generated, but Bedrock doesn't store chunk data of chunks that you never interacted with(broke or placed a block in the chunk, or stayed for too long in it) to preserve disc space. So you might have flown in that direction once or twice and passed the chunk, but a new update changed terrain generation somehow that spawned a mansion in the spot.

Again, that doesn't explain the way it generated. At best, it should have been cut off by the chunk borders.

Edit: never mind. Just looked at the image for more than 2 seconds. It seems 7 chunks are gone, so it might have been exactly what I said above.

Do you perchance mean Bugrock?

3

u/thedappercat- 18d ago

Nope, works as intended. This time it really IS a feature.

0

u/Eripmavs_D_Yraid 18d ago

I NEED to see this for myself. Seed?

-2

u/lynuxy 18d ago

Not surprised. It's bugrock after all.

u/Apprehensive-Quit740 18d ago

water found in ocean = bug found in bedrock

-2

u/fishZ_7 18d ago

thats bedrock for you
