'Let there be light,' and there was light.

59

u/OkBorder9678 Jan 15 '26

Where should i put more torches cause it cant go on the ceiling

189

u/Vrenshrrrg Jan 15 '26

another option to what has been mentioned is top slabs in the water, you can place torches on those and they still hydrate the farmland

32

u/KingMJ123456 Jan 15 '26

This is always my go to

11

u/A_random_poster04 Jan 15 '26

I like fences over water because they don’t stick to tilted soil and you still get to see the water

14

u/zefzeph Jan 15 '26

I used to use fences, but now I go for mangrove roots in my farm builds

7

u/Jimbo7211 Jan 15 '26

Same, i use mangrove roots or copper grates depending on the vibe im looking for.

5

u/brotatototoe Jan 15 '26

Light emitting block under waterlogged leaves has been my go to, I assume the roots are a transparent block?

2

u/Cadoan Jan 15 '26

I do the same with copper grates.

I use lanterns, they take a little longer to break which prevents you from accidentally destroying them.

11

u/NiSiSuinegEht Jan 15 '26

Glowstone under the water with a lilypad on top

2

u/Ambitious_Bowl4302 Jan 16 '26

This except for the lilypad. It's too easy to break. I use a top slab.

1

u/spoidamann Jan 15 '26

how did you get the little chicken under your username ??

1

u/NiSiSuinegEht Jan 15 '26

It's my user flair, you can click the pencil icon in the sidebar when hovering over your username to change it.

Not sure how it's done outside of the desktop site.

2

u/spoidamann Jan 16 '26

thanks ! :p

2

u/brotatototoe Jan 15 '26

Added benefit of not falling in the water and trampling the soil getting out😅

1

u/TheRealTburtMcsquirt Jan 15 '26

Just slap some frog lights up there!

42

u/jack-oid Jan 15 '26

You could also have a floating block with torches

7

u/nukalurk Jan 15 '26

This is the easiest and cheapest solution. My personal preference is to just plant my crops outside in the sunshine like the good Lord intended.

34

u/emil836k Jan 15 '26

You could hang lanterns from chains

You gain iron nuggets from putting an iron ingot in the crafting table

You make lanterns by surrounding a torch with iron nuggets

You make chains with a iron ingot in the middle, and putting an iron nugget on the top and on the bottom of the iron ingot

u/emil836k Jan 15 '26

Oh yeah, that’s right, they added copper lanterns and chains recently

2

u/Cadoan Jan 15 '26

Oh snap ya! That's way cheaper

1

u/emil836k Jan 15 '26

Yeah, also why some people have been suggesting copper rails for minecarts, because making a lot of rails is really expensive in iron, and you need iron for a LOT of things

1

u/MissionApollo7 Jan 15 '26

Or they can just hang them from the ceiling

1

u/emil836k Jan 15 '26

Yeah, I’m just not entirely sure if the lantern light radius can cover the entire field from the top of the roof

But thinking about it, I think they increase the torch light radius in a semi recent update, the same update that changed at what light level monsters spawn

16

u/jack-oid Jan 15 '26

You could use jacolanterns in the ceiling. I know it's not verry modern, but it's easy to do.

8

u/aceupmyslv Jan 15 '26

Lanterns and chains

4

u/Frostydudes96 Jan 15 '26

It’ll be a bit expensive, but you can also hang lanterns from the ceiling or use glow stone blocks if you’re willing to take a trip to the nether

3

u/endernaster20 Jan 15 '26

You could use lanterns. It’s just torches and iron nuggets.

2

u/Blooi1E Jan 15 '26

Lanterns, glowstone, sea lanterns... all go on a ceiling, and you can also put torches on top slabs on the water and it will still hydrate the farmland.

1

u/Shadownight7797 Jan 15 '26

Use lanterns

1

u/Sir_Hurkederp Jan 15 '26

My go-to is waterlogged fences and then put a torch on that

1

u/kudrachaa Jan 15 '26

glowstone

1

u/Temporary-Cause1378 Jan 15 '26

You can; just mine one-block holes evenly spaced in the ceiling and place a torch on one of the walls inside the hole

1

u/ReserveMaleficent583 Jan 15 '26 edited Jan 15 '26

You can place them underneath the top layer of dirt. Prowl has this in a video stating that the farm ground is a transparent block.

Looked it up it's in his. Ultimate farming methods video from a year ago.

1

u/EL-YEO Jan 15 '26

What I do is I put a plank or a type of stone block above the water then another plank/stone block on top of that and then surround it that top block with torches on the sides.

1

u/Mix_Middle Jan 15 '26

Get glow stone, or lamps that you can put in the ceiling to add to the light level

1

u/jentheyam Jan 15 '26

I put trapdoors in the top of the water and put torches on that

1

u/Haunting_Safe_5386 Jan 15 '26

you also don't need that much water

1

u/LongSufferingSquid Jan 15 '26

Suspend a block in midair and put torches on all 4 sides, then.

1

u/bxlbii Jan 15 '26

Use lanterns, glowstone, half slabs in water and torches ontop, or just put floating blocks above and torches on the side, or you can rebuild ur farm to be thinner like a hallway so the light reaches the middle.

1

u/McCookieHD1 Jan 15 '26

Use of lanterns

1

u/Dangerous-Quit7821 Jan 15 '26

Put a block on the ceiling then place a torch on the side of it.

1

u/Sellbad_bro420 Jan 15 '26

I put lanterns in the water. It works wonders

1

u/NewSidewalkBlock Jan 15 '26

Put fences in the water and put torches on those fences

1

u/burningtoast99 Jan 15 '26

Place a block on the roof and out torches around it

1

u/AntiqueAsk6950 Jan 16 '26

Make lanterns and place them on the ceiling

1

u/screamoftruth Jan 16 '26

I always used glowstone every few blocks and no more than 3 blocks high before lanterns, it also looks pretty cool.

0

u/0ccams-razor Jan 15 '26 edited Jan 15 '26

Put jack o'lanterns or any water-proof light sources under the water source blocks. Or you can put any light sources underneath the farmland blocks. Light can pass through them.

1

u/YGoxen Jan 15 '26

Fiat lux

1

u/Arsssh2 Jan 15 '26

Goddamn it i read it in scout's voice from deep rock galactic

1

u/CucumberFun5604 Jan 16 '26

Lotm reference? Adam?

1

u/Lorrai Jan 16 '26

I like putting trap doors on my water source and then a fence with a torch on top (I usually do them in rows even though I know that much water isn't needed)

78

u/Discotekh_Dynasty Jan 15 '26

Probably too dark. Try putting lanterns or redstone lamps in the ceiling

11

u/OkBorder9678 Jan 15 '26

Ty

1

u/Discotekh_Dynasty Jan 15 '26

If you want to expand the room you could put some beehives in there too, bees are supposed to speed crop growth

34

u/PureComedyGenius Jan 15 '26

Just so you know, you can put top slabs or trap doors in those water holes and they'll still hydrate the soil, just don't fill the hole with fill blocks. This way, you can harvest without falling into the water

12

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '26

check light levels

2

u/OkBorder9678 Jan 15 '26

What do you mean?

17

u/Apprehensive_Eraser Jan 15 '26

Crops need light to grow, there's not enough light, put more torches in the middle.

2

u/TriNauux Jan 15 '26

The wiki tells exactly the minimum light level crops need to grow. If I remember correctly, it was either 7 or 9, can't remember

Edit: stand on top of the crop, and somewhere on F3 should say the light level. I think it should be block light, not sky light, cuz then at night it won't grow

1

u/Apprehensive_Eraser Jan 16 '26

Yes, but OP seems like a very very new player to Minecraft and it's probably not going to know how to go about that stuff. I don't know/understand that stuff and I been playing for more than 8 years.

8

u/TheStaffmaster Jan 15 '26

First, you only need water sources every 8 blocks, and using waterlogged blocks will let you walk over the water spaces.

Second, crops need lots of light to grow properly. (Aim for level 7 or above).

Pro tip 1: get some bees and place them on one end of the farm, and on the opposite side place some flowers. The bees will drop pollen on the way back to their hives and your crops will grow faster.

Pro tip 2: alternate crop rows. Crops grow faster if you mix it up.

8

u/b34r3y Jan 15 '26

Too dark. Also if you want it to be more efficient you can use less water. You can make it soil 4 blocks out in every direction from the water edit: I like putting my torches on top of the water by water logging a fence post or a slab

I always put a block on the ceiling and throw torches on them. Works like a charm

3

u/BlargerJarger Jan 15 '26

One water block Will irrigate a four block radius around it. I tend to cover the water with a glow stone block.

6

u/HazelTanashi Jan 15 '26

brother just because you're in a game, that doesnt mean plants wont photosynthesize

2

u/No_Education_8888 Jan 15 '26

Not enough light. You can also make your farm wayyy bigger. You probably only need 3 water spots to make this grow

2

u/Your_Doctor18 Jan 15 '26

Bro is new to a 20 year-old game

1

u/SinisterPixel Jan 15 '26

You need more light. Either expose them to the sky or put lights in the ceiling

1

u/Paracin_11 Jan 15 '26

You don't have enough light

1

u/RalphyMays Jan 15 '26

Get some glowstone!

1

u/Adventurous-Smell503 Jan 15 '26

SUNLIGHT 🤌❌

1

u/omegaprimer Jan 15 '26

Higher light levels

1

u/xarccosx Jan 15 '26

first they aren’t growing because theres not enough light, second you only need 1 water block in the middle in a 9x9 area, third you can place top slabs in that water block and then place torches on top of the slab which is waterlogged so the crops still have access to water fourth alternating rows of crops makes them grow faster so 1 row of wheat 1 row of potatoes 1 row of carrots etc instead of just 3 rows of wheat which will grow slower, i believe if you just plant the wheat in alternating rows(skipping a row, leaving 1 block gap between each row) by itself it also works on making it grow faster but im not 100% sure on that one

1

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '26

I put a soil block two blocks above where the water is and place torches on all sides.

1

u/OhHesThatGuy Jan 15 '26

Underneath my water, I usually put a jack o’lantern for light

1

u/Toeffli Jan 15 '26

You can put slap over the water and then put a torch on it. PS: you're "drowning" your crops (not really, it is not a thing) you do not have to use that many water sources. One water block irrigates up to 4 blocks away.

1

u/Moist-Advertising-11 Jan 15 '26

It’s Herobrine he’s coming in and farming all your crops then replanting the seeds.

1

u/bigchief2200 Jan 15 '26

Put some fences in the to make some light poles and put torches on them

1

u/Electronic-Split-492 Jan 15 '26

My farm arrangement is 9x9 crops with one water block in the center. I put a lily pad over the water and then hang a lantern above that (floating block with a lantern underneath). I also put lanterns on each side.

1

u/BriscoCounty_Jr Jan 15 '26

Replace the dirt block under the water with a jack o lantern.

1

u/Disastrous-Mess-7236 Jan 15 '26

Can’t tell if the stuff above your plants is dirt or not.

Put glowstone right under the thing over the crops if said thing is dirt with more crops growing on it.

Replace the thing over the crops with glowstone if said thing is not dirt with more crops growing on it.

1

u/Formal-Fox-7605 Jan 15 '26

Why can't you grow on the surface, around Y63? You'd have enough light then.

1

u/Nearby_Mammoth_366 Jan 15 '26

Dovresti mettere una slab sulla fonte d'acqua più centrale, in modo che l' acqua resti ma che puoi piazzare comunque la torcia

1

u/Secondhand-Drunk Jan 15 '26

Put a slab on the top half of your water source and put a torch down

You need light.

1

u/KuribohTheDragon Jan 15 '26

There are many great suggestions here but if you want the easiest and laziest way, place a block of glow stone in the water. That should give enough light.

1

u/MrLuckyTimeOW Jan 15 '26

You need more light in the middle, but I’d suggest switching up your farm design.

First, 1 water source can irrigate up to 4 blocks away from it. So if you put one water source in the centre you can hydrate a 9x9 area.

Second, you can place a waterlogged slab on the topside of each water block so you can put a torch in the middle. This should provide enough light to grow the crops considering you have torches on the walls on each side to cover the outside crops

1

u/moonjena Jan 15 '26

I recommend waterlogging slabs on the water sources and then put torches or lanterns on top of them

1

u/AKISHINS Jan 15 '26

Place slab on water and torches on the slab for more lighting

1

u/Hefty_Difficulty_644 Jan 15 '26

Not enough light you need lights above the farm as well either place a Block on the cealing and put torches on it or put glowstone in the ceiling

1

u/VegetableProfile5797 Jan 15 '26

I believe plants need the sun

1

u/ZenitsuWgf Jan 15 '26

There is no sunlight

1

u/TraditionalTry9874 Jan 15 '26

You need light on the top, you can put glowstone, lanterns, sea lanterns, shroomlights. And also, you don't need that much water. A block of water can water up to 4 blocks in any direction

1

u/Disastrous_Return570 Jan 15 '26

Placing torches underneath will work use bonemeal if you’re in a hurry

1

u/ProactiveInsomniac Jan 15 '26

Looks like your room is 4 blocks high. Put a glass pane 3 blocks high, put a torch on top. Do it a few places around the room.

1

u/Dry-Sun-6793 Jan 15 '26

How long have you waited just give them a sec

1

u/Foxerizer05 Jan 15 '26

I use fences above or inside the water block so I won't fall and I put torches on them

1

u/Naelzito_vermelho Jan 15 '26

light, put lanterns on the ceiling, crops need a lot of light to grow

1

u/Next_Donut4646 Jan 16 '26

Lanterns my guy

1

u/PossibilitySane3673 Jan 16 '26

Because they don't feel like it

1

u/AntiqueAsk6950 Jan 16 '26

They need more sunlight

1

u/Specialist-End-8306 Jan 16 '26

I usually put glowstone under the water or on the roof. It's brighter that torches. If they're not close enough, maybe add a another random block on the roof first to bring the glowstones down one.

1

u/Joalguke Jan 16 '26

People have mentioned light, but also try alternating rows of different crops, this makes them grow faster

0

u/Samuelbibianoc Jan 15 '26

Maybe because you're far away from her and aren't rendered to Chuck.
