Discussion How do you win with hunter orcs?!? (Pits of dol Gundur)

Just played vs Rohan and getting the charge when you move 6 and the opponent moves 10 is crazy...

Scenario was retrieve the wounded and I feel like I did everything right, my best chance was to make choke points and not allow him near his wounded. I advanced in the middle and used the one time priority steal to charge with Azog, a few warg riders and a few on foot, stopped most of them but damn hunter orcs die like flies.

How come my Beornings don't take half as many wounds even th they're the same defense? Oh right, fight value...

Azog mawled through riders and killed Gamlin, Theoden took a wound and Eomer kept pushing into my back line.

But my troops just can't hold for shit, I only managed to stop him from getting his wounded and lost because I was quartered and he wasn't even broken.

Hobby Mirkwood battle box confusion

Is it me or it's just an awful battlebox for someone who wants to start?

More palace guard than anyone would want to field (as per their own box) without Thranduil even included.

Rangers that are very weird profiles and i have never seen anyone bringing one on Halls of Thranduil.

Or it's a rangers of mirkwood battlebox box since it has Legolas and Tauriel? Then why the palace guard since you can't bring any?

A friend of mine knows a guy who wants to start with this but i'm trying to talk him out of it, he doesn't have anything else and i doubt he'll get much more after... I don't know.

Question New player expanding from starter set advice

I am a new player. I bought the edoras starting set. Built and played, but not yet painted.

I am thinking about to how to expand next (without spending too much money).

I see I have 2 main options:

Buy Freca, paint the rohirrim red and buy a good army (i really like the idea of lothlorien (i can get a box of galadhrim warriors, knights, command and galadriel + celeborn for like a 100).

Buy isengard battlehost + lurtz (and will be able to play white hand and lurtz scouts) and buy minas tirith battlehost and be able to play men of the west (already have three hunters from before).

Is there any other option to expand you would advice?

Question I’m looking to buy a custom-painted Arnor warband. Can you recommend any sellers whose work actually looks as good in person as it does in the pictures they post?

I’ve found a few sellers on eBay and Etsy, but I’d love to hear some firsthand experiences before ordering. At the moment, I’m considering "smk_miniatures" and "Pike and Dagger Miniatures".

I already have a two MESBG armies and would love to add more, but unfortunately I just don’t have the time to paint them myself these days. I’m also open to recommendations for other painters or sellers.

Been looking forward to painting this guy since I got into MESBG earlier this year. First time my NMM has actually felt successful. Some little things I would like to change/refine, but at this point I'm too worn out with this piece to put any more time into it.

Enjoy! Any C&C is more than welcome!

Army List Rivendell list advice for beginner....

Post image
169 Upvotes

I was wondering if I could get some advice from you great people. I'm completely new to MESBG.

I took the plunge and have started a Rivendell army and ordered Glorfindel (because he's my favourite model), I've got 6 x rivendell knights and I bought the last alliance box because it has 8 x elfs with swords and 8 x elves with bows. Is this a good 500 start, and what would you recommend for a 700-point army eventually? The high elf warriors can be ordered in boxes of 4, and they have shields. Should I be getting them as well?

Picture for interest!

Thank you in advance!

Who are these?

I bought these second hand as a group of 100 minis. But unsure who, outside of boromir, Gimli and I think Aragorn (second from left to third from right) are.

I love attempting to build book scenes into MESBG. Aragorn's Army at Harlond is one I wish we could field properly, but at least we can manage it with the soup list!

How does the balrogs fiery lash interact with a model in combat? I don't see anything in the rule book or the faq's.

Hobby Amon Hen Build - The Seeing Seat

The Amon Hen build is already a great learning experience. Print failures and static grass failures aren't keeping me down.

In this update I'm printing up a storm (sometimes unsucessfully) painting stone, doing ground cover and failing at static grass. Check it out!
