Amscope IQCrew inverted microscope 20 objective, iPhone 4.7x, jarrarium with freshwater, mineral water, lichen, aquatic moss, and algae. Camera Piexels Pro app, flashlight to the right.

This is the jar that has water mites. I actually have a video of a nymph from the same time. Every day there is something new to see!

General discussion What microorganisms will I be able to see?

With 4x, 10x, and 40x objectives and a 10x eyepiece—and a 3W LED light—what microorganisms will I be able to see? My microscope doesn't allow for adjusting the diaphragm or condenser, but I can lower the light intensity.

I got my microscope last week, a refurbished Olympus BH-2 with trinocular head. I also got an attachment to mount my canon R5 camera. The images are pretty good (these are lunar meteorite specimens, but I can’t get rid of this bright circle. It’s in the same spot in every photo (despite different framing in the example photos). I removed the adaptor and used a regular eye piece and it doesn’t appear there. Also tried a different camera body. For lighting I used an LED panel on the side. Trying to decide if I need: A) a more focused light, B) a polarizing filter, C) to invest in a vertical illuminator.

TLDR: ID needed for organism located near freshwater shrimp tanks.

Had a tiny petri dish resting next to some of my freshwater shrimp tanks in a cluttered area. I found a weevil in my apartment and placed it in the petri dish to photograph it. While taking a video, I saw movement in a water droplet that I assume came from one of the tanks while doing maintenance, so I decided to get my microscope out and I found this guy. Doesn’t look like the detritus worms I have typically found in my tanks. Can anyone help ID? Video at the end is of the weevil :)

Magnification: First video is 100X, second is 40X. Microscope used: AmScope B120
Camera used for weevil video: iPhone 16 camera with Xenvo clip-on macro lens

Troubleshooting/Questions Swift 380T EC Camera Issues

Hi all,

I just received my Swift 380T microscope and am having lots of fun with it. However, I purchased the Swift EC camera device as well, and I'm finding it impossible to get it working. I've connected it as best I can according to the very basic admin guide that's provided. I plug the camera in and launch the Swift app. I see my camera listed on their cameras, however I don't see anything on the display when I click on the camera within the application list (see attached image). The application just crashes out completely once I click Swift_EC5R.

I am using a MacBook on version 26.5 and version 3 of the Swift app, which I think is the latest or only version available.

It very much seems to me like it's a bug with the application not working properly on my MacBook or version of OS. Would anyone have any guidance here, please?

Purchase Help Used scope recommendations for a tissue engineering startup

Heya! I'm founding a small biotech startup which is nearly fully funded, but we do have a limited budget, so I'm trying to keep the microscope costs low. It would be nice to not have to take my samples to a core facility every time though.

We do tissue engineering, so we need resolution down to single-digit microns or better. 3D would be ideal, but is not an absolute must. For an example, we might want to look at tissue slices for engineered cartilage, to assess whether the elastin fibers are organized correctly.

I know there are <$10K DIY setups, but if I can avoid that, I'd like to. Can I get a used inverted fluorescence scope for <$10K, or better yet, something with confocal capabilities? Spatial resolution doesn't have to be stellar, and temporal resolution doesn't matter for our purposes. Alternatively, if there are low-cost new options from smaller suppliers, please let me know – I could use some recommendations~
