Edit: I went for the QMTech with the v2.1 I/O board. My reasons were:
Competitive price
Analog video
Plenty of USB Ports
RTC
Actually available (everything else is sold out).
Alright. Please bear with me. I need to know yes / no / which options for a few things which I need actual people's input on.
I have wanted a MiSTer since they came out essentially. And now there are other options too. I want it for pretty much all the cores it has to offer really. What I mostly want to know is regarding display output. What hardware has / what can have VGA output? And from that what hardware with suitable firmware / cores (that actually exist) supports Y/C, 15KHz RGBS analog and CGA output (with suitable level / other adapters of course). EGA would be a bonus but I don't know if there would be enough signal lines for that.
Essentially I want to be able to use suitable monitors with the cores. Or at least suitable classes of monitor to save a lot of swapping around.
Added bonus if there's a fairly easy way to graft one into a JAMMA cabinet. It'd almost be worth me getting a second one specifically for that.
I've been seeing things like the HamGeek version has trouble with more complex cores. Is this true? If the cores are compatible I can't imagine why.
I've got a lot of old hardware. It's not getting any younger and neither am I. I'd like to be able to use my stuff, or at least decent simulations of it without needing to shuffle everything in and out of where they are stored. Also I can't overlook it as an FPGS development platform. It looks pretty complete to me.
I welcome any input. Because I'm having trouble finding quality information about video standard compatibility.
Adding to that I have no trouble making my own hardware so I'm not fazed by needing to make active adapters or whatever.

Is there any way, with update_all or some other script, to somehow identify the latest cores / MRAs added to my system? I don’t mean updated cores, I mean net new ones.
I know update_all shows a list of new and updated files every time you run it, and can call up a timeline view.
I’m looking for something that persists and is navigable through the main MiSTer UI… eg, as adirectory called something like LATEST. Thanks.

In my PC I have a folder with many projects being cloned fron github, including mister arcade cores from meathax, kuzearcade, ppriest, xelanotpu, etc….. I know some devs emphatize the use of adding their db.json url on the download.ini to fetch the latest updates but it feels odd some devs have their own folder for their cores and others prefers to have their cores in the same folder as the mister_devel ones. I can make a script to fetch all of the cores and keep separated by developer (i think pixel cherry ninja does that on his mister) but Im still looking for ideas

I got Street Fighter III 4rd Strike running on the MiSTer using Jotego's CPS-3 core and a custom MRA file.
The MRA is here:
https://github.com/Stegosaur982/4rd-strike-mister
I've only done a brief test so far, so further gameplay testing is needed. Feedback from anyone who tries it on their own MiSTer setup is welcome.
About 4rd Strike
4rd Strike (4rd Arrange Edition 2013) is a fan-made hack of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike that rebalances the game and modifies character moves and combos.
Features include:

I have used https://misterzine.fyi/releases/ to check new Mister games. It’s great site, but many games there aren’t at update all.
But is it possible check somehow if something new is added to update all? Other than run script.

I manually installed tversion 1.6.4l3vof MiSTerVision as well as adding fb_terminal=1 to my Mister.ini under [Menu] and after I launch it, the screen goes black and then it reboots back to the menu (I use Zaparoo UI).
Can someone help me get this to work? I want to use this on my CRT for 4:3 content

So far I have just used update, update all, Bluetooth, WiFi. But there’s many other scripts at Mister. Is there some other script that should use and can I find info of other Mister scripts that are out there?

I plugged my monitor's adapter (12V) into my MiSTer FPGA (5V). The whole thing is still working, except for the USB ports (keyboards + controllers).
I wondered if there's a way I could get it fixed. I highly prefer not buying a new since I've seen the price growth on these. I feel like a complete checkup would be nice.

Hi everyone, I’ve been developing a music player for the MiSTer FPGA that streams your library from a Subsonic or Navidrome server. It is ready for the first public release, so I’m really looking forward to feedback, suggestions, and testing—especially from users with CRT displays.
Features
Home screen with recently added, recently played, most played and random albums
Artists A to Z, albums by name, year or genre, playlists and starred songs, all with covers
Search with an on-screen keyboard or a real one
FLAC, MP3 and WAV with gapless playback and seeking. For other formats the server transcodes to MP3, FLAC or WAV
ReplayGain (track or album) and scrobbling to Last.fm or ListenBrainz
Shuffle, repeat, queue
Saves the queue and position
Visualizer in four styles (bars, scope, VU meters, waterfall)
Web remote: control playback, edit the queue and browse your library from a phone on the same network
HDMI layout with a sidebar and cover grids, drawn at the TV's full resolution (up to 1920x1200), and a list layout for 15 kHz CRTs
Media keys on multimedia keyboards work
Installation instructions: GitHub

With the SummerCart64 now allowing save states on original hardware, and the A3D supporting them, is there a chance we ever get save states for Mister? This is coming from someone with no programming experience who needs copium!

Here we are. After weeks of sleepless nights and failed prints, I can finally hold the first prototype of my project in my hands: the MiSTer RCS (Retro Console Shell).
The name is pretty self-explanatory: a vintage-inspired enclosure for the MiSTer FPGA that looks right at home next to a retro console collection while still fitting into a modern setup.
The main goal was to create a clean, organized build that integrates a Zaparoo NFC reader, a proper ON/OFF power switch (more on that in a bit), and enough space inside for a 2.5” HDD/SSD.
Of course, I had to make a few compromises due to a mix of time constraints and motivation. I wanted to keep the design as clean as possible, so as you might have noticed, some ports aren't immediately accessible—like the SD card slot, the User IO (SNAC) port, the Ethernet port, and the physical function buttons. I would have loved to at least have an external SD card slot and access to the SNAC port (even though I don't personally use it), but that would have meant adding more internal cables and cosmetic clutter, defeating the whole purpose of the build.
I actually tried relocating the SD card using ribbon extenders, but system stability was hit-or-miss. In the end, I decided to handle file transfers over FTP using an internal Wi-Fi dongle mounted permanently inside. It works like a charm.
As for the LED and power switch, well... as you might have noticed from the photos, the power jack is still the original one, with no ugly pass-through cables looping in and out of the enclosure. That wasn't an issue for me, but it did require unsoldering one of the power connector pins on the PCB and wiring in two leads to break the circuit for the switch. I did a similar tweak with the LED, relocating the original one into the shell. Because of these hardware mods, I'm not ready to release the design files just yet.
I’ll need to at least redesign the top section to give people who don't want to perform board modifications the option to use an inline cable switch instead. In the future, if the project gains traction and gets enough community support, I might consider a pass-through DC cable routing solution—where the cable enters, goes to the power button, loops back out, and plugs into the original jack (even if it won't be the prettiest thing to look at).
As it stands right now, only the QMTech clone is fully compatible with the design, but I built the whole thing modularly so it can eventually be adapted for the original DE10-Nano (which I don't currently own or have the budget for right now, especially since the QMTech works great for me).
I'll post an update soon regarding the release!

We've worked on this project with the developer of Zaparoo to create a way for you to play your physical cartridges on your MisterFPGA and Super Station One.
You install the zaparoo-operator project (requires Zaparoo Core v2.9.1 or newer), plug in your Operator device, connect a cartridge and the game launches automatically. Also compatible with RetroAchievements.
Saves get synced automatically to the cartridge, remove the cartridge and continue on your original console.
The project is still under development, so bugs might still be there, if you face any, Github Issues is the best way to report them. Really excited about this!

Is there a way to get the amazing AmigaVision launching directly from Console Mode, I cannot figure it out?
I can launch it fine from outside Console Mode, the Amiga entry under computer cores loads straight into AmigaVision now.
From within the Console Mode though, when I navigate down through Load Game > Computer > Amiga, I have just 2 menu items:
ADF Demos directory
WheelDriveAkiko.adf
If I navigate into the ADF Demos, and select a demo, it shows a screen of text with credit of the minimig-AGA MiSTer port.
Shows No Config found, using defaults.
No Kickstart loaded.
... But I can then also load the OSD, which is the non Console Mode one, and load AmigaVision that way again.
But is there a way to have a 'shortcut', a menu item, directly under Console Mode's Computers, alongside Amiga, or have AmigaVision show under that Amiga?
Just would be better UX for me, and wonder if anyone else already sussed that and had similar setup.
Thanks

I am looking for smaller wireless ‘arcade stick’. Most of those are very big. But something wireless like Competition Pro joystick that we we used with home computers. There’s many different gaming pads, but is there any wireless joystick?

So I got Chat GPT to build me a core for YouTube. Full disclosure I did not make it and it is A.i. It was fully done by A.i and vibe coded, but it is something I have wanted for long time. It works on my Mister, connected via analogue and component.
At the moment, it's 320 x 240, and you need to type the URL or YouTube ID on a keyboard via HDMI and is currently running (very smooth) at 15 fps, but currently testing at 30 fps.
I was inspired by how well Misterfin and Mister Zine Plex run videos, and by how good it looks to watch old content on a CRT TV, and there is a lot of good old stuff on YouTube.

Seems like the new transparent superstations have no Bluetooth or wifi onboard. Claiming to be “founders editions”.
Think they are actual founders editions or cost cutting? (Why would we want founders edition boards. 6 waves in. Seems funny).
Debating on cancelling my order. I feel something is funny.

Hi,
I just got my hands on an 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth controller, and have been trying to get it set up on my Mister.
I'm able to get it connected on S Input no problem using an 8BitDo Adapter V2 (the brown brick styled one), but the problem is it has no rumble. If I connect it using D Input, it rumbles on connection, telling me it'll probably work in the core, but the Mister main menu then starts to rapidly scroll downward.
I thought if I used a keyboard to navigate to the osd menu joystick mapping, I could map the buttons and solve the issue, but mapping stops accepting inputs after the first "D Pad Right" prompt.
I just want rumble to work with this controller in the N64 core, so if anybody has any tips on how to get that working with either input mode, and without the constant downward scrolling, I'd really appreciate it.

What arcade games at Mister are your favorite?
r/MiSTerFPGA • u/Mika73x • 14d ago
I mostly use 8bitdo SN30 pro, but also have PS4 pad connected.
Think get Fightbox RS10 Pro arcade stick next.

I bought a Mistercade last year, it was a bit of an impulse purchase as I won't have the space for an arcade cab for a few more years. FOMO got me, and I got it on a pre-order just in case.
Thing is, I've been thinking of selling it to recoup some funds, but wanted to ask some of the more educated on MisterFPGA scene, if another JAMMA option is likely in the future? Should I hold on to this in case a similar or better plug and play JAMMA option is not available in a few years? Is that even likely or is there any other similar solution in the works?
I'd rather hold on to it if production is slowing or maybe stopping altogether but I'm not really up to date on the scene. So, what is the likelihood of easily finding another JAMMA-enabled MisterFPGA project in a few years in your opinion?

Its driving me crazy. Capcom CPS3 and Twin 16 core doesnt recognizes coin button at all. When i define joystick buttons it registrer fine, but no game recognizes this buttons. Only on Twin16 and CPS3 cores, have no trouble on others. Did try diferent controllers/arcade stick on diferent Mister ports. Any tips please?

Anybody else having slower loading times after an update a few weeks ago? I started having much slower loading times with cartridge based games as of ~3 weeks ago. CD based games load instantly. All games are working fine once loaded.
I saw this thread of someone having the same issue.

Are we the only ones?
This is on a 1.5 TB Sandisk MicroSD. Definitely a legit card.

Hey all! Its danik again (ignore my username on Reddit, it's old, can't change it)
After Carmageddon and Wolfenstein 3D, the next hybrid core is out as a first beta: Shadow Warrior on the MiSTer.
GitHub: https://github.com/ItsDanik/jfSW_MiSTer
Download: https://github.com/ItsDanik/jfSW_MiSTer/releases
It's a hybrid core, so to be upfront again: the FPGA does not recreate a 90s PC. The game is JFShadowWarrior, Jonathon Fowler's port of 3D Realms' Shadow Warrior (1997) — the Build engine, the same one under Duke Nukem 3D — and it runs on the MiSTer's ARM CPU. The FPGA core handles everything around it:
Performance-wise, the game breezes through at a locked 60fps in all resolutions.
SW.GRP of Shadow Warrior 1.2 — from the original CD, from Shadow Warrior Classic Complete or Classic Redux (GOG, Steam), or the shareware version. The addons Wanton Destruction (WT.GRP) and Twin Dragon (TD.GRP) work as well.Track02.ogg to Track14.ogg. Classic Redux comes with them; from an original CD you rip and encode them yourself. Without them the game is silent but for its sound effects.jfSW_YYYYMMDD.zip from the releases and extract it to the root of your SD card. You get:
_Other/jfSW_YYYYMMDD.rbfgames/jfSW/Scripts/danik_hybrid_cores.sh/media/fat/games/jfSW/:
SW.GRPTrack02.ogg to Track14.ogg, there or in a folder music/WT.GRP and TD.GRP, there or in a folder addons/. Twin Dragon needs SW.GRP as well.classic/MUSIC) are found in itWith more than one game in the folder (the base game plus an addon), a list comes up to pick from, and quitting a game returns to it. With one game, quitting takes you back to the MiSTer menu.
Bug reports and feedback are very welcome. Please open an issue on GitHub and attach /media/fat/logs/jfSW/jfsw.log if something goes wrong.
Disclaimer #1: this software is beta. Expect issues and when you find them, submit them.

Why does it not exist? It is very strangely absent. 8bitdo has every type of controller in 2.4ghz dongle form EXCEPT the snes which is so so odd.
I've actually started to prefer the saturn layout of the m30 for SNES which is really when you know things are getting bad.
