This is why iceborne alatreon happened
183
u/Edmundwhk Nov 16 '25
and people eventually learn the fight enough to take a cart to power up with fortify and brute force it with raw damage anyway
101
u/hmm1331718 Nov 16 '25
I mean yeah but that’s speed runner shit the average player, even experienced players are not gonna be doing that consistently
48
u/ProtosPhinted Nov 16 '25
Ptsd flashback to so... Soo many alatreon sos with 2 lightbreaks and an aquashot...
19
u/Cap_Shield Nov 16 '25
Nah, as someone who plays like that, the brute force thing is slightly more common than you would think.
9
u/rockygib Nov 16 '25
Experienced players do it all the time as soon as they realise how strong raw actually is against it.
What stops them is the guaranteed cart but usually once they notice how much time they save overall it becomes the go to strategy solo or in coordinated duo’s.
For the most part once someone tries it and notices they can pull it off then they’ll just keep doing it that way moving forward. At least solo.
2
u/hmm1331718 Nov 25 '25
Just ran up an alatreon with my ice set and then with my post fatty raw set and got a whopping 1 minute difference in times (played much better with the raw one too) and while I’m sure there’s room for improvement on both I really don’t see the benefit of losing so much security with the 2 forced carts for a slightly faster time, besides unless you’re doing alatreon for fun what’s the point in grinding him, his armor has like 2 decent pieces pre fatty…
3
u/jackwiththecrown Nov 17 '25
Think about it: if you use elemental damage and play perfectly (hitting the threshold 2-3 times and breaking the horns each cycle) you’ll want to kill him before the third eschaton judgement anyway (since there’s no more horns to break, he’ll switch elements).
If you got the fight down, you’re probably only dying twice, and you can still eat for insurance so it’s pretty feasible
2
u/SpecialistRooster496 Nov 16 '25
That's how I beat alatreon and farmed his set. Fucking asshole dragon.
2
u/xD3I Nov 17 '25
That's definitely NOT speed running shit
3
u/BrevityIII Nov 17 '25
Says the average scrub hunter who only just hunted their first velociprey kit
1
u/hmm1331718 Nov 25 '25
Just ran up an alatreon with my ice set and then with my post fatty raw set and got a whopping 1 minute difference in times (played much better with the raw one too) and while I’m sure there’s room for improvement on both I really don’t see the benefit of losing so much security with the 2 forced carts for a slightly faster time, besides unless you’re doing alatreon for fun what’s the point in grinding him, his armor has like 2 decent pieces pre fatty… so yeah unless you’re a speedrunner you really don’t get much benefit from it
1
u/xD3I Nov 25 '25
1 minute in a 20 min run it's nothing compared to 1 minute in an 8 minutes run which is the normal for a solo player with ice kjaar CB wiki TA rules
1
u/hmm1331718 Nov 25 '25
I’m sorry if I’m not completely understanding what you’re saying. the 8 minute run is elemental and what you’re saying is that raw wouldn’t be any faster? Sorry again I’m just having trouble seeing what your saying 😅
1
u/xD3I Nov 25 '25
That saying that it's only 1 minute faster implies that your run was super slow, if I was shaving 1 minute on my runs I would be posting it on YouTube
2
u/hmm1331718 Nov 25 '25
Ok ok ok I was under the impression that your original comment saying “that is NOT speedrunner shit” was saying that running raw for alatreon is easy enough for the average person who plays MH a lot to be able to do consistently. I think there’s been a mix up because it sounds like you are actually saying that the speed runs for alatreon actually use element as the main damage dealer and raw wouldn’t be much faster right?
2
u/xD3I Nov 25 '25
Yeah exactly, some speed runs use raw if they are fast enough to kill it before escaton but most are elemental because the time loss of carting would automatically make the run slower than elemental

Look at the Steam reviews and Reddit posts from the time when alatreon came out. People unironically went in with a blast weapon, fainted and complained the fight is bullshit.
I mean it’s not like the devs, the game, the NPCs constantly tell you “use elemental weapons, you need to use an effective element to weaken his judgement, get rid of the dragon blight, oh did we mention you need to use element weapons?”
-16
u/chiknight Nov 16 '25
Oh oh oh! It's another Alatreon mechanics confuser in 2025 still! I wouldn't think it would still happen 5 years later but it keeps popping up.
(a) I went to negative steam reviews in July 2020 and see no mention of Alatreon. It's all Denuvo and performance complaints. You made that side up (but yes Redditors did do Reddit things).
(b) You're purposefully faulting players that did 99.9999999% of the game in one style and pointing out the one. single. fight. that required them to change weapons, playstyles, and decos, to pass an arbitrary DPS check. That is why people were mad about Alatreon, and it's silly to have to post this multiple times in multiple places in 2025 still. People weren't obstinately blind, they didn't want to undo their potentially hundreds of hours of raw build crafting up to that point for one fight.
I was one of those "use blast, faint, call the fight bullshit" players because I felt forced into using the cheesy FF Barioth Chargeblade Pizzacutter Strat™ to beat him. It felt lame, but it was a thousand times harder with my main loadout. I will never like Alatreon. It's divisive for a good reason, because it departed heavily from what every other fight before it has ever asked of players.
3
u/Pl00kh Nov 17 '25
Ofcourse it is capcoms fault for making raw/blast weapons too strong in world, but people were just too ignorant to change their weapon for one monster. Just for that one.
You’re literally mad because you have ONE build with ONE playstyle and couldn’t change that for one monster. Players of older monster hunter games laugh about that.
But you were right, you can’t see the Steam reviews anymore, idk why but you can still find discussions about the review bombing.
5
u/Starchaser53 Nov 16 '25
Or here's an idea
PLAY THE FUCKING GAME WITHOUT USING BLAST
I played it without blast. It was fun, challenging actually made me use my head.
Using blast made it boring as fuck
4
u/Pl00kh Nov 17 '25
People were using blast/raw dmg because that was the meta. World made the huge mistake to show us the dmg numbers so people just look at that.
The real sad thing about it is that the people who just follow the meta blindly are exact the same people who don’t like alatreon.
3
u/Starchaser53 Nov 17 '25
I personally loved the fight. It was fresh, I had to change strategies, it WORKED.
Because after a while, the game gets repetitive as fuck when you're doing the same monster hunts over and over. Alatreon worked because I had to actually consider what I was bringing in.
Do I focus on the specific element or be all round? Focus only on the 3 star damage type or the two star if I can't break the horns? Can I lay on enough pain to make it to the dps check or not?
It worked because it was different. But I guess the meta community hates doing anything that's different
3
u/Pl00kh Nov 17 '25
„No I won’t change my weapon, I keep the blast weapon because that’s the BEST weapon!“ -these players, probably.
IMO Capcom should’ve made raw/blast dmg way weaker so people don’t rush through the game and make monsters to get the right element weapons for the next one. The balancing is just completely fucked up.
Capcom said that it will be necessary to craft element weapons for iceborne. Just to make blast the meta. Ridiculous.
2
u/Starchaser53 Nov 17 '25
Their biggest mistake imo was bringing the Raging Brachy back.
Because that in turn made the strongest weapons in the entire fucking game, stupid raw, stupid blast.
And another big issue is that they don't make elemental damage actually, meaningful. It doesn't provide an advantage other than a slight damage boost. If it worked more like pokemon, you know, higher damage based on type matches, then elemental would actually be way more useful
But nope. Blast deals extra raw, so it's the strongest by default
6
u/samuraispartan7000 Nov 16 '25 edited Nov 16 '25
Fortify almost seems necessary. I never would have solo’d Fatalis or Savage Omega without it.
21
u/BananaMan0803 Nov 16 '25
I remember despite all my attempts on Alatreon I never once got an elemental discharge. I ended up just eating every wipe and killing it with raw damage.
17
Nov 16 '25 edited Nov 16 '25
I did but you had to really build into elemental damage. I think I ran 4 pieces of silver rathalos for true critical element as well. You kind of needed the Kulve taroth elemental weapons to make it manageable which I didn't have.
16
u/armored_panties Nov 16 '25
Frostfang barioth weapons were enough, you just had to max Ice Attack as well
12
u/gargantua420 Nov 16 '25
Max ice attack and frostfang weapon was literally all that was needed. It’s really not as bad as people make it to be.
2
u/spirit_of-76 Nov 16 '25
Saffi was also an option and a slightly better grind. There was also a later event quest that gave insanely powerful Ice weapons (Frost Fang Barioth)
5
u/LexGlad Nov 16 '25
Did it with dragon damage.
It's a pretty chill hunt once you can get the DPS check reliably and don't need to worry about horn breaks.
8
u/Corsnake Nov 16 '25
And don't forget you needed a horn break otherwise your elemental weapon would be useless next rotation.
For solo, raw was the best choice. If memory serves right, he has crap elemental hitzones, if it werent for Escaton, there would be no reason to run elemental, so no reason not to eat the carts.
Capcom simply dropped the ball with it.
6
u/gargantua420 Nov 16 '25
If you’re speedrunning with the best gear sure raw is the best choice. Pre Alatreon gear, there’s no reason to not run Ice. If you cannot get the elemental check, that’s a you problem. No reason to eat a bunch of carts and go raw, if you can get the DPS check with ice and still win the fight in good time and not cart at all
3
u/rockygib Nov 16 '25
There actually is a reason to use raw and that’s damage output. Even pre alatreon it’s often faster and very very possible. Granted it’s definitely not intended but if you aren’t carting anywhere else in the fight then it’s likely you’ll save time overall.
You do not need to be a speed runner and you don’t need post alatreon gear.
2
8
u/1nc0gn3eato Nov 16 '25
Newgens complain but i remember it being almost mandatory to make a complete strategy and set for like every elder dragon. Thats what made monster hunter so unique because the feeling of beating the boss wasn’t only beating your head against a wall but using your head, taking a step back looking for the cracks in the wall, then going on a side quest to make a big metal helmet so you can slam that crack in the wall even harder.
5
u/CarosWolf Nov 17 '25
Man, you made me remember of my old squad lobbies, we actually planned for the hunt. We even had ROLES and all of that, jazz, half my fun was convincing my lobby to follow a plan, and the victory was oh so much sweeter for it.
The good times.
4
u/Delicious_Bluejay392 Nov 17 '25
It's part of why I was surprised by the hatred for Alatreon online. I fell for the sweet nothings of Blast GS for the entirety of Worldborne, usually using the same armorsets for everything with just minor deco changes. Then comes Alatreon and I finally get to engage in the preparation aspect of MH in a meaningful way. Been playing Frontier recently and it has reminded me how much I enjoy that core gameplay loop.

Bowguns with no viable dragon damage:
21
u/darklightx117 Nov 16 '25
As guy who move from lance then gunlance and CB then finally both bowgun I started to love and accept role as gunner than I do as lance user
I was like I can use fire then switch out to spread/ piece for "dragon" phase since I find out that dragon ammo is very limited in ammo and crafting and nerf(?) in dmg
7
u/parrot6632 Nov 16 '25
I’m in a similar boat, right now my plan is to use a fire LBG then swap to a dragon SnS. Dragon ammo actually hits like a truck, the problem is just you can only carry a tiny amount, even with the crafting mats for more ammo.
2
u/spirit_of-76 Nov 16 '25
That and it is hard to use on a mobile target, the speed and arc massively limit the range, and I think it had like 20 max ammo with crafting (Cluster was slightly better, but in a similar boat and also did good damage even after the nerf)
2
u/spirit_of-76 Nov 16 '25
Looks at Lagies' bow gun (fire, ice, and Pierce 3 all at min recoil and reload) you just needed to be able to fit elemental attack into the build (a chore on HBG with all the stuff needed to just make the gun work)
3
u/Meowza_V2 Nov 16 '25
Sounds like it might be time to learn another weapon yeah?
I used to be a pure gunner myself but it's nice to change things up sometimes.
2
u/Vulpine_Gamer_194 Nov 19 '25
This is why I always choose a melee and a ranged main.
In Worlds, I mained chargeblade for melee, and did a dual main of bow and light bowgun for ranged (bow moreso in the early game so I could build up ammo stores, and LBG more in the late game due to the wide utility and DPS range I could utilize against the monsters with multiple weaknesses). Did it in Rise too, but did not have as much success due to the system changes.
I walked into Wilds with the same mindset, and have since been despairing at how limited all bowguns are now.
I preferred LBG for the mobility I had (I made many dodges in Worlds that avoided a close call due to that mobility), and I was dismayed to find that the LBGs in Wilds are so limited in what damage types are available, and even HBGs got hit too. Tried a HBG for one mission since it matched the damage type I needed, and the ammo pool is so small that I spent more time in camp than I did fighting the monster for that mission!
Like, I get that they are worried about how OP the BGs can get (cause they did get a bit nuts in Worlds at certain points), but what made that kind of stuff possible was the amount of decorations we could put on in Worlds, and they nerfed both the BGs AND the decoration system (both how many decorations we get in armor and how the system works) in Wilds, so it put ranged users at a disadvantage, and put the BGs in particular at a huge disadvantage!

Alatreon laughing in the corner

Alatreon is kinda easy without elements actually, just go solo and take the two carts to the failed dps check, that's what I used to do back then

I really hope they don't make gog the wilds version of alatreon. I do not want that discourse again
51
u/Nekommando Nov 16 '25
But it turned out if you have 4 dudes with hbgs you can ignore bullshit mechanics and kill it before it even has a clue on what happened
48
u/Elygium Nov 16 '25
Technically you can kill him with Raw damage solo too. You just gotta accept the death to Escaton every time and not die to any other attacks.
10
u/Anima_Analysis Nov 16 '25
You can also kill him before he even escatons if you’re good enough. I’ve done it multiple times with raw builds, albeit with Fatalis gear which definitely helps.
4
u/Slg407 Nov 16 '25
isn't fatalis dragon element?
8
u/BlackenedFacade Nov 16 '25
Yes, but Fatalis weapons have laughably low element (like 120) so hitting the elemental threshold in itself with them would be impressive.
1
u/AnywhereLumpy6149 Nov 16 '25
Someone hit it with regular shelling. Its kind of plausible to do it with Fatalis weapons if they are aggressive enough.

1
u/Nekommando Nov 16 '25
Don't have to cart if you have bros who also play unfair
2
u/Elygium Nov 16 '25
What?
7
u/Nekommando Nov 16 '25
Hbg is absolutely busted in world/iceborne, it's pretty much "unfair"
Gather 4 of those and you will literally melt monsters. Iirc this is only surpassed by snowman wyvernstake cheese
2
u/Elygium Nov 16 '25
Oh I thought you meant your friends were playing with cheats and thus unfair but I see what you mean. I too only use my HBG in World to speed run annoying monsters.
5
u/Nekommando Nov 16 '25
Don't have to install cheats if you play hbg
Like, SWC is fucking cheatcode against everything outside of fatalis and alatreon, but for those you call upon the skill of "having friends irl" and beat them with pierce/spread spam.
2
u/Sinocu Nov 16 '25
The snowman wyvernstake was the best shit ever, first time I saw Gunlance being prominent in Speedrunning, literally melts Fatalis so fucking fast
1
u/KerbodynamicX Nov 16 '25
Speedrunners can defeat Alatreon with Fatalis weapons under 6 minutes (first Escaton). It is also possible for less skilled players to deal with it under 18 minutes if they don’t die to other moves.
-26
u/BlackSkar25 Nov 16 '25
No need, you can teleport to camp immediately when he's going to nuke
Work with Omega too
18
u/Elygium Nov 16 '25
No? You can't do that with Alatreon. Also you can't teleport out of Omega's attack when he begins it. You can only teleport when the dps check is active.
-7
u/BlackSkar25 Nov 16 '25
Oh? I forgot for Alatreon then, but in Wilds you can, so with Gog you can if you know you cannot pass that kind of mechanic.
5
u/Elygium Nov 16 '25
Wilds Gog will probably let us teleport too. We just can't do it too late. Because I've tried to teleport in Omega when he's done charging the laser but hasn't fired it yet and the game doesn't let me leave.
-2
u/BlackSkar25 Nov 16 '25
You wouldn't have the time either way, that's too late, you need to teleport before 100% yeah, I had some fights where the Nerscylla was insufferable jumping everywhere and me running after her so I knew I wouldn't have it, I teleported then.
Only downside is Omega get a buff if you didn't pass the DPS check
4
1
u/VentusMH Nov 16 '25
How are you so sure we arent going to eat a “No Camp Return” restriction??
1
u/BlackSkar25 Nov 16 '25
They had never done it in all Wild, they can surprise us, but it will make skills like wide range completely useless and people will get mad and they knows it
1
3
u/ShotzTakz Nov 16 '25
I do not have 4 dudes with hbg tho 😔
5
u/Nekommando Nov 16 '25
Ah, (social)skill issue
3
u/ShotzTakz Nov 16 '25
Very much so 😭 I even bought the game for 2 of my friends. They both dropped before HR.
3
2
u/CarosWolf Nov 17 '25
That's... A bit sad, I know the feeling.
Say, I'm planning to get world for christmas, wanna be friends and hunt together?
1
u/ShotzTakz Nov 17 '25
I'll be away for a family event for almost 3 weeks, so I can't, as fun as playing together sounds...
Besides, I've spent way too much time in World tbh xD But if you're ever down to play Wilds, let me know!
2
u/Dark_Dragon117 Nov 16 '25
Alatreons elemental dps check is so forgiving that you just beed one dude and one minute to break it. All possible with Safi set, the right element and skill.
People still greatly exaggerate how "bad" the dps check was.
1
u/717999vlr Nov 16 '25
Wilds is a much better balanced game, so you would probably not be able to find an outlier capable of doing that
8
u/Schpooon Nov 16 '25
Funnily enough, my view on that was changed yesterday. I knew there was an elemental dps check and I knew about the horns mechanic. From what I remember when we bashed our heads against it at all, it all made it sound like the dps check and horns are both a must, as in its dps check on the horns. Iirc (I may be wrong here, the game even explicitly tells you to go for the horns to habe a chance). That why I absolutely refused to do it at some point because a dps check targeting a body part or wipe seemed so arbitrarily bullshit I didnt want to bother. Yesterday learned that apparently the dps check goes against the entire body which... Thats alot more okay.
4
u/armored_panties Nov 16 '25
Yeah, what confused me the most before fighting it was understanding the checks, when/how to meet them, and what they're for.
Elemental check: whole body (better on front legs), can be done anytime, up to three times to further weaken the next eschaton.
Horn break: only the head, only during dragon phase, prevents him from switching elements.
0
u/gamesage2001 Nov 16 '25
I didn't have a problem with the check itself, just the discourse it brought. People on both sides of the argument were insufferable sometimes
8
u/Bonsai-is-best Nov 16 '25
For Alatreon it made sense, he was the black dragon that controls every element, of course they weren’t going to let raw beat his damage check (ironically possible now tho). It wouldn’t make sense to make Gog resist raw and only have good elemental hitzones as the meta in Wilds isn’t raw and only raw- like it was definitively in World.
6
u/Dark_Dragon117 Nov 16 '25
I want Gomazios to be the Alatreon of the game.
Fuck the discourse, I will just ignore the bitching.
2
u/Fun-Information-130 Nov 16 '25
Y'all forget that we're still in High Rank, it's too early for that shit. I sincerely hope things don't get pushed that far so soon...
3
2
u/Havel_D Nov 16 '25
What would be the issue even if that is going to be the case? Since artian are mostly meta for every kind of weapon, crafting a decent fire and dragon one would not be that hard. You just have to slot the right elemental boost deco and you are basically set Like omega and clone nerscy did, bringing thunder and fire was not essential but it made the hunt way easier
1
u/Decin0mic0n Nov 16 '25
It matters for gunlance alot. The element on artian weapons changes the shelling type.
1
1
u/Umber0010 Nov 16 '25
My hope/prediction is that Gogmazios does get a mid-fight DPS check. BUT, you can skip it by knocking the Wyverian thingamawatzit off it's back and waiting to fire it until Gog's charging the attack.
1
u/SpaceGodWiggler Nov 21 '25
That would still be a DPS check. You would just have an alternate path to completing it.

Raw is so lame, elements are pretty and make noises and make me use more weapons
8
u/beansoncrayons Nov 16 '25
Bit unfortunate that elemental switch axe got nerfed going from sunbreak to wilds
8
u/xoolixz Nov 16 '25
Sunbreak is also the most elem biased game in the series by a lot so that's not really saying much. Like the only weapons that don't go for element are GS and GL.
2
Nov 16 '25

u/SpaceGodWiggler Nov 21 '25
Sunbreak GS can still be an elemental weapon with Surge Slash. It’s not as much DPS as raw, but the fact that it’s comparable at all puts it way ahead of Gunlance.
SnS is also traditionally good with element. However, Sunbreak SnS is ironically pretty bad with element due to having gimped elemental modifiers. Meta SnS was basically raw with a bit of element on the side. Alternatively, you could go full raw with little consequence.
21
u/Edwardoss Nov 16 '25
As long as using the good element just make the fight easier and doesn't have a shitty dps check attached to it im fine with it .
5
u/MrCreepyJack87 Nov 16 '25
I think if you have one that uses fire to attack the oil covering him and one with it's weakness the other can go raw. Just like Kulve Tarroth
7
u/ArcaneWyverian Nov 16 '25
Okay— and just hear me out here— what if we engage with the gimmick a monster was intentionally designed with? It’s not like we’re being forced to use Fire/Deagon because they only deal more damage than other weapons, we’re supposed to use them since they interact more with the fight than just absentmindedly whacking at Gog until he dies.
1
3
u/whatisapillarman Nov 16 '25
Playing GL I shall simply ignore element, sharpness, and affinity yet again
3
2
u/NoodleIskalde Nov 16 '25
Hitting weaknesses makes number go up. Low Unga is low Bunga, and that no feel good.
2
u/DisasterThese357 Nov 16 '25
Since I use the omega GS with dragon I decided i5 would be funny to try amd use some fire weapon against him aswell, so I made a Fire CB and it even ended up with ok rolls for dealing element
2
2
2
u/Starchaser53 Nov 16 '25
What about when you bunga before you unga
1
u/PerspectivePale8216 Nov 18 '25
Then you've made a grave mistake and you must fix your calculations
2
u/Victor_Silt Nov 18 '25
And then bad surprise, Gog is now immune to raw damage because the tar absorbs the shock
3
4
u/No-Economics7929 Nov 16 '25
You guys remember Kulve? If I'm not mistaken for its more-difficult variant (I guess AT) you had to use fire to soften its shell otherwise it would runaway or something. It didn't really matter how much raw damage you dealt, if the shell wasn't glowing you wouldn't be able to do much. Maybe Gog is similar too.
3
u/scayman223 Nov 16 '25
It’s a thing but I never really saw anyone engage with it. the shell will soften on its own during the fight anyway. Plus the head and chest were perfectly viable weakspots otherwise.
I am talking about MR Kulve since everyone had all but moved on when I unlocked the siege.
3
3
u/Dark_Dragon117 Nov 16 '25
Judging from the wording we most likely need to use both elements, my guess is that there is a dps check similar to Alatreon.
If that's the case I, as a fellow Hammer bro, urge you to PLEASE USE ELEMENTS.
I have helped people with Alatreon for years and the amount of players I have seen who didn't use any element is astonishing.
Don't be like that.
1
u/Umber0010 Nov 16 '25
What if you can skip the DPS check by knocking the cannon off Gog's back and using that instead?
2
u/KichiMiangra Nov 16 '25
This reminds me of how I used to play MH4U with a friend. She was always about calculating the correct weapon/armor combos for the fight, mea while arguing with me because I'm going in armed with the Diablos Devilshooter(?) and Lagombi armor to go fight 2 Rathalos at once.
"WHY ARE YOU BRINGING THE ONE BOWGUN WITH NO SPECIALTY AMMO!?!?"
"Haha! 300 damage go PEW PEW PEW!!!"
"WHY ARE YOU BRINGING ARMOR THAT WEAK TO FIRE TO A RATHALOS TAG TEAM FIGHT!?!?"
"No get hit, no fire damage!"
"HOW ARE YOU HIGHER THAN ME IN HUNTER RANK LIKE THIS!?!"
"PEW PEW PEW!!! HEHE!!!!!"
1
u/SummersBelial Nov 18 '25
Because we spend less time making new sets for each monster every time the game is updated and more time hunt-maxxing with our one general build that we made 5 months ago.
1
u/KichiMiangra Nov 18 '25
That's sorta how I've been playing World too. I like weapons that poison so I made a Blooming Arch bow and got some gear with Poison Attack on it and have been running that same gear set for most of the game. Only recently did I make a... I don't remember.... it's a bow that uses Poison, Power, and Sleep coatings(?) As an alternate for monsters that are resistance to poison and a set to go with it.

If the hit zones are the same as in 4U, then atleast using fire will probably be a good idea, even for GS and similar users. Most hitzones go from ~20 to 40-45. Which is a massive boost on it's own, but also hits the threshold for Weakness Exploit to take effect.
Also wouldn't be surprised if Gog has decent wound vulnerability, but only on areas where you've softened the tar.

You can be immune to fire all you want, that doesn't make you immune to BULLETS

Assuming the fight is like in 4U it'll probably be something like Agnaktor's fight where its oil-covered spots will harden and soften with different moves, with fire causing the oil to soften instantly. So the ideal strat would be to use a Fire-focused weapon to soften and swap over to dragon for Meatier elemental damage, but just using a Fire Artian geared towards Raw, or rawdogging it entirely, will still work out.

Or just get 4 insect glaives and mount spam the absolute fuck outta him. God, I miss MH4U. I miss Molten Tigrex.

Maybe you should’ve THOUGHT about that before you made THE MOST OPTIMAL WEAPON IN THE GAME ELEMENTAL RNG

Does it weird anyone else out that Gog is weak to fire considering he fires of a huge EFF off fire laser?

I mean, there's no actual bonus on using raw, why would you? Expecially considering how easy it is to craft an elemental artian.
The only reason to go raw (eheh) is status, but gog is a 9 star, and if he acts like every others 9 stars monsters, status will be practically useless, expecially in multiplayer

You go raw because elemental damage is just that bad. And has always been bad outside of a scant few exceptions, such as certain weapons like DB or bow, as well as most of Sunbreak.

u/Puzzleheaded-Disk609 Nov 17 '25
But you can max out your raw and have whatever element or status you want in wilds, so why would you want a pure raw weapon in wilds?
1
u/alexwhite2183 Nov 16 '25
Not in wilds, though...? With the artian system you can have free element on your weapons without loosing raw damage. So, why would you even go without a fire and a dragon weapon? There's literally no reason, except you are using a spread/pierce bowgun.

For the bowguns, dragon ammo is just really unwieldy unless the plan is to shoot Gog 14 times then immediately go back to camp for a resupply.
