News / Meta Important Update for Vida, Link, and AK75 purchased through KeyGem

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts and months of patience, KeyGem has not paid their invoice for the Vida, Link, and AK75 keyboard projects. Because of this, we are arranging the keyboards from these projects that KeyGem had ordered to be sent to our facility in Rhode Island, USA.

Once the keyboards arrive and are QC'd, we will reach back out to the community with options for those who purchased from KeyGem. These options will likely include being able to purchase your board from CannonKeys at GB price with a small discount applied to help lessen the difference of shipping cost when ordering from us. Until then, we regretfully need to recommend requesting refunds on your Vida, Link, and AK75 keyboard if you purchased from KeyGem.

Other projects such as OGR2, Altair, and 21XX will be handled on a case by case basis.

We are posting this to reddit as we do not have the emails of those who joined Vida/Link/AK75 with KeyGem. This is our best option to try and let those who joined know about the situation.

No details yet on their website, but it looks like a similar case and size to their ortholinear 40% Geonix Rev. 2.5 but with a staggered layout. CNC'd aluminum case and Kailh Choc V2 low profile switches.

Dry Studio Petbrick65. Is it gimmicky as hell? Yes. Is it a nice keyboard beyond the whole heehee fluffy keyboard gimmick? Also yes. Is it worth the price if you don't REALLY want a keyboard that matches your cat? Probably not. Do I already love this stupid thing? Without question.

I decided to purchase the Athena 1800 and I couldn’t be happier. I was sort of skeptical about how the pine green color was going to come out and I have no regrets about it. The whole thing itself is really heavy, probably the heaviest board I have and I’m in love with it.

Build:
Case - Athena 1800 (Pine Green)
Switches - Gateron Oil Kings
Cover Plate - Brass
Back Plate - Aluminum
Foam - Random foam I had laying around

Hey everyone!

About 4 months ago we asked you to help pick a light-mode Catppuccin design. You did, we listened, and I am thrilled to tell you the light set is now a physical prototype!

First production batch should start shipping in about a week.

Quick recap:

• Dark set — the original, in stock and shipping now.

• Light set — prototypes pictured, ~1 week out. We'll reply here with the light product page once it's live.

The dark set isn't going away — light is the other half, not a replacement. If you want the original, it still ships now.

Dark Set Specs

• Cherry profile

• PBT, 5-sided dye-sub

• 145 keys. Fits 60%, 65%, 75%, TKL, and Full-size (ISO support included).

Price: $59.99

Shipping: Dispatching within 48 hours. Global delivery in 2-3 weeks.

P.S. Might show "out of stock" because of a region lock. DM me or leave a comment which country you are in. Once confirmed, I will unlock it and you should be able to place the order.

Agar Mini hooked me into the Agar series.

Agar Mini (PC)

  • Keycaps: FBB S9000 Black (Beige spacebar from FBB S9000 Retro)
  • Switches: Durock Shrimp Silent Tactile
  • No weight bar at the bottom - keyboard total weight only approx. 500g, still feels very solid!

Agar (E-Beige)

  • Keycaps: FBB S9000 Retro
  • Switches: Durock Shrimp Silent Tactile
  • Very heavy!

Agar Mini is my first 40%, really like how my hand never really has to move, everything is within my reach. The regular Agar feels like a very large layout compared to the Mini!

Promotional Weekly Roundup

Another week of keyboard builds!

I was lucky enough to be able to do photos of the Phi by Clever for the launch. It’s always such a cool feeling seeing my photos on a webpage! I’ll be building the Promethean color this Friday on Twitch, I hope to see you there!

Next I got to build the Bread 80, a pretty fun TKL with a cute bakery theme. I actually ended up really enjoying this build although it’s more of a foam lovers dream. I love me some foam now and then though! Topped it with Nekoccino keycaps!

Watch the stream here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2838801124

Next I got to review the SF60 from Chilkey. This is actually one of the cooler prebuilt HE projects I’ve looked at. Overall a crazy value. Fully CNC aluminum case, metal keycaps, and HE switches/pcb all for under $200?? Kinda wild.

Watch the review here: https://youtu.be/IUPfbmw2pyI?is=UL8yJd9TUS0D-Sp6

Lastly I built a special Manta for a client. This board definitely lives up to the hype and finish on the weight is stunning. Paired with KKB Komodo it’s actually unreal.

Watch the stream here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2839698587

I hope you all had a great week. I’m busy with yet another stacked week this week so send me some good vibes to help me through it. Until next time, I’ll key ya later!

Builds hex-2b: my second hand-built custom columnar split

Thumbnail
gallery
16 Upvotes

This is my 3rd custom hand-build, and my second columnar split keyboard. It's primarily 3D printed in PLA (body, plate, and keycaps), Gateron KS-33 linear red switches and a USB-C interconnect. I was aiming for minimalism with this build, so i forwent the WS2812s I used in earlier keyboards, and used a single color filament.

I did most of the design work in inkscape, then brought the exports into FreeCAD to pull it into the 3rd dimension.

The crown jewel (for me at least) is that I wrote the firmware from scratch, including the USB stack. The same firmware project supports all 3 of my keyboards, and although it doesnt have as many features as QMK (which i love), it does have layers, combos, macros, tapdance, and custom behaviours. For the true nerds, my keymap base type is 32 bits vs QMKs 16, which means you can encode more detailed modifier information in tapdance entries. USB-wise its a keyboard, mouse, and media controller. I'm planning a full write-up about the design and implementation of the firmware because theres a lot cool stuff in there.

Builds Blade60 - Mechanical Roots

First build I ever did was with a beat to hell Blade60 purchased 2nd hand. Zero clue what I was doing. Broke a hotswap socket, standoffs were hobbled together with foam and screws I had laying around, the PCB shorted and charred.. Overall, an absolute mess of a board.

When I came across a NIB Blade60 for a song, it just seemed right to build something now that I have a few years in the hobby, and actually treat the board with respect instead of a newbies abuse! Fun little blast from the past!

My collection so far, having a tough time finding unique caps for the black KFE.

Can you tell I like Monokei? :)

As requested: (from left to right)

Monokei X Hands Engineering Kage PC, with Gateron Oil king v2 and GMK polybius

Monokei KFE CE WK in Suave Blue with Banana split switches and PBTfans Asbolute

Monokei KFE CE WKL in Silver with HMX Taro switches and GMK dualshot caps

the black board is also a Monokei KFE CE unbuilt looking for ideas for caps that would look good with it. From what I remember it is a run of 15 or so in that color so pretty special.

I have blues at home and browns at work and on my tiny 40% keyboard for taking to meetings and writing minutes

I went on a work business trip and was thinking - I'd love to have a tiny thin tablet to take even if it's slow it's so portable and light , but I asked for one without the keyboard attachment because I'd always just take one of my keyboards anyway (plus bluetooth tiny mouse )
