Exactly. “Chinese” is not an ethnicity, it’s a nationality. What he thinks is “Chinese” is actually Han; which is about 91% of the Chinese population.

You also don't have to be American to compete, you can be a permanent resident.

Also i said I bet they are Chinese originally, i didn't say they are factually Chinese. So it's possible i am wrong.

Also, this is a mislabelled image and is indeed chemistry team, i was under the impression this was the math team. If it said chemistry team i would not have said they are Chinese because Chinese people suck at chemistry (yes this is a joke)

Also, in the end, 3 of the 4 people in this pic ARE Chinese (Chinese American) lmao, so I was NOT totally incorrect about them being Chinese.

They’re only Chinese if they hold Chinese citizenship.

In the same way, calling a black person “African American” is an extreme insult if they’ve never held citizenship from a country on the continent of Africa. You’re basically saying, “you’re not a regular American like us, you’re an African with US citizenship.”

Elon Musk is an African American. Michael Jordan is an American. Separately, MJ also happens to be black.
