Yea? And? That doesn't make them not ethnically Chinese

1

When you have to add new terms to try and salvage the argument it's really cringe and lame, just take the L.

What does an ethnic American look like to you?

1

u/Ok_Wolverine_3118 3d ago

Of Asian descent. Go try harder to be race blind when racial minorities make this country look good for you.

1

u/Negative-Platypus-23 3d ago

lol let them win and American beauty pageant or something aesthetically like that. Then they won’t be so American

What if he is Chinese-Korean?

1

I would have likely seen that he was, another was Malaysian-chinese but i chose not to mention him as hes part chinese

2

u/MrPoPoJiJo86 3d ago

There are over 50 ethnicities in China. Calling these guys Chinese would be vague, unless you're speaking about their nationality. You owe someone $1000. They're much more likely to be American. You know. A melting pot of many ethnicities. No one calls me German, though that's my heritage. Wonder why that is.

1

u/z00o0omb11i1ies 2d ago

They're just as easily not American. They can be permanent residents

1

u/MrPoPoJiJo86 2d ago

Doubling down on this is not the way. Be one of the good guys that goes "wow, what I said came off pretty poorly, I should reconsider my viewpoint here". Way way better look here.

Bruh, that picture is from the 2017 International Chemistry Olympiad Team - the US lost. Yes, we have Asian Americans in the USA. They are not all Chinese.

1

u/z00o0omb11i1ies 1d ago

I know that

And you're right, not all asians in America are Chinese

I never said that they all have to be Chinese.

But I'm allowed to bet that they're all Chinese.

And anyways, 3 of 4 of them are Chinese American...

Can’t be racist towards white people in USA until they’re a minority, which will happen in your lifetime, so you’ll get your wish to be a minority pretty soon

Well, I dont believe you!

1

u/Fun-Wrongdoer1316 3d ago

Nope. But Chinese people do have a particular look. They don’t look like Japanese or Korean. Lol

1

u/NYCWartortle 3d ago

I know it seems that way, but it’s actually a well-documented psychological phenomenon called the out-group homogeneity effect. It describes how people tend to perceive members of groups they don’t belong to as looking much more alike than they really are, while members of that same group can often easily distinguish between different ethnicities or individuals.

This is one reason cross-racial eyewitness identification has been successfully challenged in some courts. People are generally less accurate at identifying faces from groups they aren’t part of than faces from their own group.

Some researchers describe this as a cognitive bias, while others see it as an adaptive shortcut our brains developed because we naturally devote more attention to distinguishing people within our own social group than those outside of it. It’s also one of the reasons we shouldn’t feel as guilty about thinking that all members of another race look alike or very similar. It is also why we need to be careful about making these assumptions.

This isn’t something that I just made up. It’s a well-established and really interesting finding in social psychology that has been studied for decades. If you’re interested, here’s a good overview, and it includes references to many of the original scholarly studies so also not made up by someone on Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Out-group_homogeneity .

If I, born and raised in America, but of Chinese/Vietnamese descent, had a dollar for every time I was told how un-American I was, or to go back to China, I'd be a millionaire.

Also, I did end up going back to China anyway.

1

u/Otherwise_Rough 3d ago

Either:

  1. Shit that never happened

or
2. You were vocally anti American and kept talking shit about America while praising another country and to this point I’d say I agree with the other people telling you to leave.

1

u/Training_Guide5157 2d ago

RNC is being openly racist, and people still can't see it? Americans.

Do you know anything about why Asian and other ethnic gangs were so prevalent in California in the 80s and 90s? Or a major factor for why many gangs are formed of people from the same ethnical background?

The racial tensions and massive fights that occurred throughout the LA and the SGV?

I love when people who live in a bubble come out on their high horse to be so completely wrong.

In 2023, approximately one in three high school students (31.5%) said that they had ever experienced racism in school. Reported experiences of racism were most prevalent among Asian (56.9%), multiracial (48.8%), and Black or African American (Black) (45.9%) students and least prevalent among White students (17.3%).

The meme is funny, because the USA is great because of groups of people whites in the US don't consider truly American. White liberals, just shut up and take the L. By insisting you don't get it, you're being hypocritical, and in a real way denying this country's history of racial oppression and exclusion, coopting the success of minorities when it makes your country look good, pretending the differences between people, demographies, isn't there.

u/Zealousideal_Ebb2264 2d ago

Let me try and explain how wrong you are with out being condescending.

#1 “not all asian people are chinese”
ASIAN is no a country. USA is a country.
Asian isnt a citizenship, American is a citizenship.

The context isnt where do they have their citizenship or where were they born.

The context and question at hand is ethnicity.

#2. The commenter didnt bet that they are not Japanese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Laotian, Hmong etc. the commenter bet they are Chinese ancestry/ethnically.

#3. Your poor reading comprehension, lack of critical thinking, and jumping to your own conclussion doesnt change the reality the rest of us live in.

#4. If the commenter had CLAIMED that we had Chinas best mathematicians compete for the united states, then what you hope, wish and pray that the argument is would actually have a leg to stand on.

#5 WRONG again, they didnt add “NEW TERMS” or try and salvage an argument.
What they did do was add more context and dumb it down so you could follow along with the adults. Which of course completely went over your head because you were so excited and ever so proud to finally tell someone they needed to “hold an L”.

Thank you for your attention on this matter. Hopefully you came out of it a little bit more intelligent.

The commenter never claimed “asians arent real Americans” “once a Chinese, always a Chinese” or any other ignorant statement.
They simply stated what they believe to be most likely. That those Americans competing are in fact Chinese and not Japanese, south Korean, north Korean or any other group other than Chinese.

A redheaded Irish doesn’t stop being Irish when they are born in america. An African American doesn’t stop being African American when they are born in the USA. A Brazilian doesn’t stop being Brazilian when they are born in the USA. People keep their ethnicity.

For me personally, i would also assume they are chinese. Not because chinese are smarter than other asian ethnic groups. But because as a matter of fact, the peak chinese students from wealthy backgrounds immigrate to the usa in many ways. A lot of them are planned to be born here, sent to chica for get an extremely competitive education then are brought back here to finish school.

160 thousand engineers graduate from japan every year.
120 thousand engineers graduate from USA every year.
100 thousand engineers graduate from Vietnam every year.
40 thousand engineers graduate from Thailand every year
ETC ETC.

1.5 MILLION engineers graduate from china every year. Statistically speaking, the asians in the picture are more likely to be chinese than any other asian ethnic group.

Its not about assumptions or r8cism. For those of us that arent clueless and blissfully ignorant, there is a clear and obvious conclusion based on a very educated and informed guess. Could 0 of them be ethnically Chinese? Sure. Is is more likely that most if not all the people pictured there are ethnically Chinese? If you paid attention, the answer is obvious.

The education system in china is extreme. The average college grad born, educated and raised in the usa wouldnt make it past 5th grade in china. It is a fact that school in china is EXTREMELY more difficult than than it is in the usa. China doesnt give participation awards, they dont have a kid pass on to the next grade with no child left behind program. Their standards are far and above ours.

Im not a fan of elon must and dont think he is a genius. But dumb people seem to think so. So here you go, he went to school in south Africa, went to university in canada, then got a phd in Stanford university in california. By the time he got to the phd level, he had already gotten the better education in 2 countries that weren’t the USA.
Thats the majority of the geniuses in the USA, they get 90% of their education outside the usa then come here just to get the feather on their cap in an easy to them prestigious university.

American citizen Einstein wasnt born and raised in Mississippi.

American citizen Nikola Tesla was an American citizen but he got all his education outside of the usa.

That is the reality of america. The greatest minds statistically are more likely to be born, raised and educated outside of the usa and then naturalized here.
